What I learned from taking a Class 1 in Canada (same as A in the US) is that a bus (Class 2 in Canada) can be done basically the same way and is more in-depth after learning on the big-rigs. Great video.

I'm not sure how PA does it, but I'll find out on Monday. Thing is, how can they expect a driver to inspect something that can't normally be seen (unless you have the bus over a garage pit)? I'm a Class A tractor-trailer driver making the switch to coach operator, and I have to do the skills test to get my endorsement. On a truck, you can see every part because of the openness of the truck design itself, but on a bus a lot of parts, steering and suspension in particular, are behind the fiberglass or sheet metal body.

In CA it is necessary to have hands on, you literally touch everything that you can reach in your pre trip.

No not anymore however I do still train on the side if needed just for pretrip though well I can do it all if you provide or have a truck or bus for us to use.

This is b.s. I hate the pre trip requirement. It is pointless, redundant and stupid. As a driver I am not going to be working on the bus I am driving. This should be a test the bus mechanics take. I am so frustrated. Just the new pre trip and air brake test takes 45 damn mins before you can even drive for the stupid test. Dumb!!!!
Is this federally regulated or regulated by states?
Michelle My Belle it’s federal law that a Pretrip inspection is done before driving a commercial vehicle - each time you drive, before EVERY trip. If an accident were to occur you can be held criminally responsible for negligence if the accident is deemed due to something that should have been caught during the pretrip.
