Batman beats the crap out of you. Breaks your jaw, one of your orbital bones, knocks out some teeth, you can feel blood dripping down your forehead, your entire body is in pain, your legs can barely hold you up and then you hear Batman say; "Now talk, where's the Joker?"
I have to admit I was never a huge DC fan aside from Batman and the Bat Family, but the Absolutes are awesome. They're the reason I decided to get back into reading DC comics again.
You know I think the main pull to the Absolute universe is that the characters we looked at in the main universe, are essentially living their dreams. In the Absolute universe, so many people have had their dreams denied, and yet they are being themselves regardless. The reason the art is different than other issues is cuz a guest artist worked on this one I don't mind it cuz it works well with whole story effectively being a flashback ( or in Bruce's mind to be more specific ) but I can understand if it won't resonate with everyone
I honestly think this artwork change is trying to "imitate" Batman's Year One artstyle. You can see it's really similar, even the speech bubbles. I kinda digged it, but only for this issue
The art is fine.. But early Batman being less than half as big as the older batman is ridiculous! No amount of food, shakes and working out would cause such a transformation. He'd need gamma rays. How did a Peter Parker sized body become as big as the Hulk?
I just realized another reason why Bruce chooses not to use a gun from this comic.... By using a gun, the criminals would fear the gun still and Bruce wants them to fear Batman. 🤯🤯🤯🤯
This comic is so good, thank you rob for covering it!! Just binged all your immortal hulk videos and they make my hour long drivers go by so quick haha
I do agree with Rob on this mainly because the artwork for Issue 4 is a little wonky, but I do love how the story is being written in this kind of dynamic which many are saying it's a more modern rendition of Batman year One.
You made it fairly easy to follow, and I get the art style, the classic moments, the flashbacks, I loved his issue, and you made it even better! Thank you! Just got yourself a new subscription, lol, after years… my bad 😣
I actually love this issue’s art style for Absolute Batman, it gives Gotham a janky lo-fi feel, & calls back to Batman year one in some ways. It’s definitely more illustrative, but the sequence where he has the bat fangs & contact lenses on felt truly terrifying. It would be really cool to see this become the style for Bruce’s flashbacks as contrast to the present day bats more exaggerated art direction or even a longer arc by this artist. For me this is where Absolute BM really clicked into place.
Bro I WISH my parents had been ANY kind of support. Much love to you all who have known what it means to have "involved, loving, empathetic" parents. We're not all so lucky.
