In Staßfurt a beautiful railway festival took place in June 2011th
Locally steam locomotives were various series, of which some were under steam.
You could make commuting on the cab and drove a freight train for visitors to photos and videos to allow.
As a guest, then came a special train from the oil-fired locomotive 41,096 who impressed with an imposing noise of their torch.
This film is part 1 of the two-part film.

When I was very little when watching this nostalgic video, I always refer to one of the black tender engines Thomas and one of the smaller green engines Percy. No idea why
the first time i watched this video i hadn't learnt about other countries yet. now that i have come back to this video it gave me a huge wave of nostalgia

These deadly locomotives powered the nations in WW2. However German engineering excellence brought them close to running as fast as planes to transport the troops and materials to the front. Nothing to beat the steam locomotive in its beauty. Rest of the engines Diesel or electric etc.. look like monsters, no beauty or grace. The Steam loco motive's sound and beat is unparalleled in inspiring ones spirits. Thanks for the post my kids enjoy this video clip often.

Auch für mich als Pilot eine Freude, diese Giganten in Aktion zu sehen! Ich kann mir vorstellen, da steckt viel Enthusiasmus und Freizeit drin, all das zu erhalten. Schön auch die ruhige Kameraführung des Videos.

Look for the Harzer Schmalspurbahn in the Harz mountains and the Weißeritztalbahn near by Dresden.

I've always admired German steam engines. Despite having a checkered past, they have this simple charm and aesthetic appeal. It helps that they make our engines look like slowpokes and are rugged as all hell, but it's nice that our friends in Europe take good care of them

Tom Larsson Basic hiccups in design along with what they were used for when they were still new, and admittedly, it is a bad workman who blames his tool. Besides, since I read that Germany kept steam going into the 80’s, I’d say they’ve more than made up for the early days.

Great Documentations!!! When I was little I grew up right next to the "Rangier and Abstellbahnhof" in Bremerhaven, Germany and it was sooo exciting when these giants came along not even 10 meters from our home and my mother was always complaining about the "dirt" coming out of the "stack", "discolouring" the washing on the line again and again...

Nein im Ernst, das Gelände der Staßfurter Eisenbahnfreunde ist sehr groß, da verläuft sich das Publikum. Die meisten stehen am Lokschuppen und an den Wurstbuden!
Aber ich versuche auch immer so wenig wie möglich Besucher im Bild zu haben, scheint ja geklappt zu haben.

The Locos with 52 in the name are some old war locomotives. 7000 of this locos was build in the WW2 after 1942.

These awesome machines can be refueled with just a hawk and a basquet ! You just need a small water course and some trees !-)

Hallo. Mein Großvater war Eisenbahner. Er fuhr noch unter Dampf in der, wie er es nannte, „guten, alten Zeit“ und hinterließ eine sehr umfangreiche Sammlung historischer Modelle, alter Lokomotiv-Postkarten, Sammelalben uvm. - Enthalten ist gleichfalls ein Archiv privater Filmaufnahmen mit Lokomotiven, der Arbeit an und auf der Lok, der Fahrt etc.
Der Zug ist super!

To elaborate on the answer. They create a draft, lifting the smoke away from the loco and crew. The UP 844 has a larger set of these as well. Other engines have deflectors right on the stack. The Santa Fe had various types of stack extenders to raise the smoke but the crew had to be very mindful of low tunnels and shop areas.
