That scene of him standing in the garden with a smile on his face is so beautiful, and yet so heartbreaking because he may never be as happy as that moment for the reat of his life.
You explained it best, I felt the same way! I was afraid they were gonna start with some over-the-top, follow up steroid version of the last episode lol bc honestly some moments in the last season kind of felt that way. This was a perfect opening to this season! 10/10 no notes lol.
Thank you for making this video, glad to see someone else feels similarly about the premiere as I do. I think its probably my fav episode of the entire series and one of my fav episodes of any series period.
There was definitely a very raw, visceral feel to the episode. No talking, just showing. I found myself tearing up at several points as the realization of character building was laid out before me. I thought i had a good understanding of where Carmy came from before this, but that was disproven with almost every moment of this episode. A lot of people had gripes about this season, and i understand. But nobody can argue that this first episode was not a masterpiece of storytelling.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have scored some of the my favourite soundtracks. The Social Network, Gone Girl, The Watchman and alongwith Gustavo Santaolalla (apologies if I mispelled his name, composer for The Last of Us), Before The Flood. Before the Flood is my most streamed song on Spotify. When I saw this episode, I remember making a mental note to find out the music in the episode. I was simultaneously surprised and not surprised to discover that it was somg by Nine Inch Nails.
Well done!!! Your summary was brilliant. Hope many more fans get to watch this! I had no idea Trent Reznor was on the soundtrack! I loved it !!!! It was mesmerizing!!
Great recap of the recap I just watched last night. Was so blown away by it. I liked season 1, I loved season 2 and ep.1 of S3 just catapulted it into the stratosphere. There's a literary term it brings to mind 'Bildungsroman' - a form of novel that follows the maturing of a character from childhood to adulthood where the character's shift or change is crucial - think Pip in Great Expectations. Or it even hints at Künstlerroman - the growth of an artist
I'm not even trying to glaze you, this is the perfect TH-cam video. You described the beauty of this episode and what was attempted accurately, respectfully, and succinctly, all with stellar editing. Very very good job 👏🏾 instasubscribe

Perfect recap. As someone who loves non-linear montages and original scores (Yes I'm a Nolan fan) this episode was unreal.
This episode is like something out of a Nolan movie. What a masterpiece.

Right, maybe the best way to follow up a crazy cliffhanger is to not give everyone what they want right away! Always nice to see a switch up 😀
The song and the way the ep is played… Its absurd, perfection i had goosebumps!! Love it
Just finished Episode 2, Season 3. So far my favorite episode of the entire series was the season 3 premiere. Beautiful.
Great video, especially the part about the music!

I saw this epi last night and was floored. It was so different and fresh. I didn’t think the “cleaning forks” epi could have been toped.

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it! And yeah it's always a great surprise when Reznor is accompanying the visuals

You hit the nail on the head. This is something that's never before been seen in television history.

Phenomenal analysis/explanation! This episode was truly a different but pleasant experience
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😁
This episode is a masterpiece
I'm always afraid of using that term for just anything, but I think I'm starting to feel that way 😁
I loved S2E1 too. So fresh.
Well explained
🔥🔥🔥
I think I am alone, but the first episode of season 3 was the most boring half an hour of TV ever
ALONE!? I came here just for this comment. it was god awful
IT SUCKED. THE FIRST EPISODE SUCKED
...pretentious
How so? I’ve heard people say this and I’m not understanding why they feel this way.
Just finished watching that episode today, and you hit it right on the nail 🤌🏼🤌🏼
