Probably way more than that. People who get DUI a lot get missed a lot more. If he was an every day drinker, I'd be more likely to think he got away with it several thousand times. Kind of scary to think about, but there are possibly thousands of times more people out there who drink and drive on a daily basis. You gotta be on your toes while driving at all hours of the day and night for those people.

This is amazing. A 70+ year old man goes to prison along side actual murderers because he "might have" killed someone eventually and the courts in your area lost their patience with him because he mortally injured a dumpster at some drive through...i can see it now, the old geezer gets the death penalty after the courts decide he could "potentially" make pruno and smack a guard. I wonder if the hypothetical guard's relatives and the relatives of the dented dumpster will be watching the execution 🤔

My friends and I have a rule. If you come to my house to drink, you stay at my house. If I come to your house to drink, I stay at your house. We set up air mattresses and tents for bigger gatherings. We even have neighbors who will put folks up if needed. Our reason? We lost a really great friend to DUI about 30 years ago. It was his fault, and thankfully he didn't take anyone else out with him. It wasn't a party we had when he lost his life. But it very well could have been. So we decided we cared more about each other, and our community as a whole, than having a wild party then driving home. It makes sense to us. Make it make sense to you, if you like to drink. If people don't care enough about you to keep you safely off the road when you're drinking, they don't care about you at all.

I quit drinking 30 years ago but I had FIVE DWIs- doh. I was a musician and was always on the road at 2 or 3 AM when cops will pull people over for anything. Twice I blew a .08 and once I blew a .01. - which is like drinking two or three beers and I was pulled over for things like not using a turn indicator when switching lanes on a remote, four lane road, speeding when I was not speeding, etc. Two times I was kinda drunk. Never had any sort of accident but it sure looked bad on paper. This guy has problems that I did not have - like I said, I quit drinking a long time ago - but life in prison is just INSANE. Give the guy 24 months or something and force him to take antabuse (drink on that and you're dead - it works).....but life in prison when the guy, apparently, didn't even injure anyone? This is crazy for the offender and the taxpayers. Texas is nuts. Life in prison does not fit the crime of addiction. Sounds like North Korea.

Murderers get less time. This deserves a few years, maybe, but until he actually commits the murder, do not give him life.
If I commit a theft 20 times, should I get life because I am a habitual criminal?! I could be dangerous if I chose to fight a security guard, but until then, I am innocent of assault or murder, just as this man is. So charge him for being a repeat drunk, but NOT charge him like he is a murderer that he is NOT. This is like convicting people because of thought crimes. I have four DUI’s. Used to be a 24/7 vodka drinker. I quit drinking five years ago. I had to get to the root of the problem in order to start the healing process. I was a blamer. Pointing fingers at others blaming others. It felt better that way. But it was me all along. Always was me. I had to go way back to my infancy, and start there. All roads lead back to our childhood. That’s when the programming began. After five years I sometimes feel like I’m okay, I’m fixed, I think I could drink again, I feel “normal” again, but that’s the addiction calling and trying to trick me. But then I come across a story like this one, and I think back. NOPE. This life is better! ✌️🫶
