    Thank you docs. I so appreciate all the topics you cover… never shying from controversial subjects. You present in a fair and balanced way. While I don’t always agree with all that is said I hold to what you always say at the end of your videos. “Remember you are in charge of your own health.” Such respect from both of you. Having known a guy who was in a wheelchair for the rest of his life after he got polio - I am very well aware of the benefits of vaccines against diseases like polio. I think the health department of all countries needs to keep explaining the risk benefit ratio to each new generation. Because something is blindingly obvious to a doctor does not mean it is to those not in the medical profession. Thanks for tackling this subject. It is astonishing to me that the benefit of vaccines is something which some people dispute. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    I grew up in the time when we took polio vaccines in sugar cubes at elementary school. Seeing people hobbling around with crutches - the people who didn't have access to a vaccine - should make everyone a believer. I am so thankful for vaccines. Any risk is far outweighed by the benefits. Thanks for this episode! Really good information.

    I was born in the 1960s when polio was still around - my best friend's brother caught it. Thankfully he wasn't completely paralysed, but he walked with a limp all his life. Further back in time, my mother's half sister died from tetanus aged 13 years of age after a simple cut to her hand got infected. These risks are easy to forget, but they are still real.
    My generation was lucky in having access to many vaccines that helped reduce our vulnerability to infections that previously blighted (if not curtailed) people's lives.

Diseases like polio, and other debilitating or life-threatening illnesses, are nothing to play around with. The shingles shot was the only one that I was uncertain of since a different doctor told me that since I had a mild case of shingles about 15 years ago that should serve to help my immune system resist a worse or another case. Any advice on how to treat or prevent Norovirus? It’s so contagious.

    • @JillKnapp
      @JillKnapp 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Norovirus spreads via the "fecal-oral route" which means (unfortunately) that someone's microscopic poop flecks somehow got into your mouth. So don't touch your face, keep the toilet lid closed when flushing, keep your toothbrush covered, and only eat where you trust the hand hygiene of the people preparing and serving your food. You prevent it by washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, making sure to scrub between your fingers, under your nails, and even your wrists. Norovirus is no fun at all! Also: hand sanitizer isn't very useful on norovirus, so you really have to wash your hands. ❤

At present time, my green Shield plan doesn’t cover it at all, so cost is $350! Insane! With having asthma and Emphysema, it’s extremely important to get this vaccine. My friend got hers for around $60 as her husband’s extended health covers most of it now. Pharmacists have been commenting that Green Shield is about the worst company for coverage. When I was still able to work, extended health through blue cross had $85 annual deductible for prescriptions. Retire and you get switched over to Green Shield and deductible jumps up to $250! They said it was a pulmonary doctor job to find out what the underlying cause was. What a wonderful presentation!
    I grew up with that little mark on my arm that reminded me of the poleo vaccination.
    For more than a decade, I got the flu every odd year. Then I started getting it every year. But I was also working in a building with lots of people and every time someone got sick, it was passed around to everyone else.
    Luckily I finally got to retire and I don't get sick as often. I got a flu shot the last time I saw my doctor. I'm also not stuck in an office with a couple of dozen other people who get sick a lot.
    I haven't gotten a pneumonia shot yet. I also haven't been close to having pneumonia.
    It's amazing how vaccines were created! To introduce something into your body and be able to build up a residence.
    I remember watching the movie "Outbreak" many years ago. And looking for that monkey that started it, who could provide the cure.
    Hollywood has given us every possible scenario of annihilation of every human being! Maybe they were just warning us about COVID or trying to make a buck.
    I just wish they would stop with the zombies, how do you get rid of the walking dead!😱
    But I digress, I watched Christmas movies for two months so I wouldn't think about zombies. There's no vaccine to prevent them.
    I appreciate the vaccines we have! And I appreciate this great explanation!
