FYI to those of you who have the Medieval II Definitive Edition! Steam released a "definitive edition" of Medieval II Total War around September of 2018. If you have that version, clicking on the Executive.bat will just result in a message saying that it can't locate "kingdoms.exe". That's because they got rid of that extension with this edition. To fix it, it's really simple and there is a program that will do it for you. Can download it here: www.twcenter.net/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=4287 Though I think you need to be registered at TWC, the site.
I'm assuming you guys are both steam users. How many mods do you have running? Just the one? I recommend reinstalling Medieval 2 fresh and then trying to install the mod.

If you're still having problems getting mods like Elder Scrolls to work, make sure the folder containing all of the data is directly in the mods folder. The Elder Scrolls mod with the hotfix included has that folder contained within another folder. Just move the folder with the launcher and data into the mod folder.

@@CelticWarband It was when I tried to load into the game it works good now, but now I cant run the 96.1 patch I have version 95 which works fine. I have installed it and done what I thought it said, but the weird thing is I have put the patch in my Third Age Reforged folder and when I open the game it just runs 95 even though 96.1 is in the folder with it. I might have put it in the wrong place and I did it with the official guide but it doesn't work atm. I know I have practically written you an essay but any help for this would be appreciated! :)
So this is for third age reforged that you are having a problem? Yeah sounds like it just went into the wrong place or overwrote the wrong files. Just try a dash reinstall. Test the first version first to make sure it works. Then move on to the patch.
I fixed it I copyed the file moved some things out to start it and made new kingdoms file and all walls fixed. Thank you for the tip it all ways nice to see a TH-cam to help their viewears

Yes that can work sometimes... but usually "kingdoms" is what its looking for. The exe portion means it's an executable file. So naming it kingdoms.exe.exe is strange. But yes I have heard of that working.
When I delete the .exe attribute the file no longer is an executable file , and before I change it it says "if you change the fil executable, it may become unusable"

The loading screen with the Crusader Soldier starts but a couple of seconds later it crashes, returns me to the desktop and doesn´t leaves any error messages. Any ideas?.

problem, my steam folder is empty????? but the info your suggesting is everywhere but where it should be and thats the problem im having. The mod launches then stops. I have all the mod files in a separate file, linked them with the Medieval 2 files and changed the name from 'blank' to 'third age' but if i need to do it in the steamapps common folder then im not sure.

I'm currently stuck on the Elder Scrolls launcher, when I launch the launcher and hit start it shows an error, "Windows cannot find'kindom.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I have it lowercased and without the exe, and it's in the same area as the Medieval2 application. Also, I downloaded the 4gb_patch and it with the The_Elder_Scrolls file, and with that I downloaded The Elder Scrolls: Total War 2.0.2 The King and the Crusader. Also, first time downloading a mod.
I had to rename the 6.4 folder as americas, but I don't know if that last patch worked as it was the only thing that didn't work. Even with the twcenter download, it couldn't find kingdoms...
Been awhile. But I just tried this. When I rename the copy of the exe file to just say Kingdoms, it turns it into some other file and not an exe file. The only way for me to keep it as an exe file is to add .exe to the end of it. And when I do that, it won't load. I get an error. Any idea how to get it to continue to be an exe file even after changing the name to just kingdoms?
Hey! I downloaded the third age total war(3.2) mos 1.7 submod using your guide , I think everything is installed correctly. I try to launch the batch file and the mod opens, but a windows host error pops up in the background, saying permission denied for the "G5BAISWITCHER.vbs" file. The game runs for a bit but after a couple of minutes it crashes. Im thinking ok, since I read a permission denied maybe i should run the batch file as admin. I do and now the mod doesn't even open and the console NOW reads "cannot find medieval2.exe or kingdoms.exe". So that brought me here. The thing is, I already have both a kingdoms.exe and a medieval2.exe in my Medieval 2 Total War install folder, as you showed in the video. Tried a couple of fresh installs, didn't help. Is it a related issue?
I've just got the Elder Scrolls Mod. It would keep loading as the vanilla game before, so I installed the new patch and now it loads the Elder Scrolls mod, ut crashes instantly. Any fixes for this?
Celtic Warband I just attempted to re-install the mod completely, I then downloaded the newest patch and hotfix on the mods page, ran their 4GB patch for Kingdoms and the medieval.exe and it seems to have worked!
Any news about the fact after trying this and other things like re-install a fresh medieval 2 a dozen times and still launch the vanilla medieval 2 ? By the way, it's about the mod "The elder scrolls 1.6", all my other mods launch correclty even the previous versions of that mod except the 1.6 which as been release the 1st Dec, I'm kinda desperate since i tried every solutions a tons of times :/
@@CelticWarband Yeah it's all in the right folder I fixed the problem myself already and it was a problem I created and forgot about lol I set the launch options to Third age Reforged and forgot about it iv'e had Reforged uninstalled for months now so I changed it to launch Elder scrolls total war instead and with the instructions you gave in the video it worked instantly! It was both relieving and a little infuriating on my part but thank you for all the help in the video and even replying to a year+ video really appreciate it!!
Help please!! I’ve installed TWTA and I’ve changed the America’s folder in Kingdoms to Third Age, all was good and the screen loaded up with the third age page but it went black straight away and a message popped up saying ‘third age total war encountered an unspecified error and will now exit’ I have no idea what to do, I’m using Steam
i am trying to run Italian wars, i get the windows cant find medieval2.exe constantly eventhough i did this before installing the mod. nothing seems to work it just doesnt recogniye anything i do with the executables
so ive tried this and it sorta worked, but now every time i try to start the game, it opens the normal game.... it also says" fatal graphic error" when it does open the modded game when i redo my steps.

I had the definive edition, but it only showed the shortcut for the vanilla game. I thought I was ripped off. But then I went into my library in Steam, double clicked on medieval 2, and it showed an icon and you could choose if you wanted to play vanilla or expansions. Looked like this: (There is a bubble icon here to select) -Medieval 2 Total War -Medieval 2 Total War Americas -Brtainia etc etc Hoped this kinda helped :)
I have downloaded third age 4.3 and placed in mods folder in my E:/medival/mods drive. When I run M2TWEOP GUI it gives me error saying can not find kingdoms or medival2.exe.
What should I do if, after doing all this, it precedes to run the vanilla copy of medieval 2 total war with Great Britain and Spain. I have a copy of the application renamed kingdoms exactly as described. I'm not sure what else to do as I've even tried renaming the mod americas and then running it through steam and it launches... but not properly and is unplayable once I get into the Grand Campaign.
Theoretically yes... but if you extracted it wrong or your files were corrupted during download then my files might to better. But try a fresh install of medieval 2 and kingdoms DLC then try reinstalling it again.

the mod still doesn't work. After clicking the application, I get the start screen for a few seconds and then the game turns off. Changing the application name to "kingdoms.exe" does nothing. Do you know what to do?

If i click on the Planet war 5 exe. its tells me it cant find the kindoms exe., but if i click on anything else that can open a mod in MTW2 if just opens reforged.

Just to confirm.. you arent renaming the original med2 exe to kingdoms right? You are copying the med2 exe and renaming it. If so then are you steam or nonsteam?
The only launcher icon i have is the medieval2 file, which when i double click opens only the Medieval2, not the kingdoms mods. I bought it now on steam cause all these years i had it cracked, but i never faced such a problem.
I downloaded SS6.3 and tried launching it, it said "Kingdoms not found". I then did as the video said, and then it replied with "medieval 2 suffered a fatal error". Did you ever change the launch pathway for medieval 2 total war in the past? Because it sounds like Med2 is only launching when there is a Kingdoms exe which is wrong. Med2 should launch using the Med2 exe. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling Medieval 2 fresh. Then try the kingdoms exe again.

Ah yes... sometimes if you double click on the mods folder instead of clicking once, it can double the folder unintentionally... good catch!

Try just for fun to put "kingdoms.exe" as the name... I've heard for some people that it works occasionally.

What are you looking for? The kingdoms.exe should be in your "Med2" folder and also there should only be one.

Hmm that is the general med2 error. Try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Really? What happens when you right click on it? Anything? or try clicking on the file and doing "Ctrl C" then click on desktop and "Ctrl V"?

@@CelticWarband so thats what i need to do if i want to launch stainless steel but can the main game after the installation be launched (same think will be applied to any mod) so if i want to export lets say features that are from kingdoms and aint in the medieval 2 also make a unit from an allready existing 1 how do i back up the files in chase the game crashes and if so if i try to relaunch the game will it need a fresh installation ? i was planning on installing vanilla beyond version 3.0 for medieval 2 this days if you could respond it would be appreciated

problem, my steam folder is empty????? but the info your suggesting is everywhere but where it should be and thats the problem im having. The mod launches then stops. I have all the mod files in a separate file, linked them with the Medieval 2 files and changed the name from 'blank' to 'third age' but if i need to do it in the steamapps common folder then im not sure.
Where exactly are you trying to put the mod and which mod version is this?

I'm currently stuck on the Elder Scrolls launcher, when I launch the launcher and hit start it shows an error, "Windows cannot find'kindom.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I have it lowercased and without the exe, and it's in the same area as the Medieval2 application. Also, I downloaded the 4gb_patch and it with the The_Elder_Scrolls file, and with that I downloaded The Elder Scrolls: Total War 2.0.2 The King and the Crusader.
Also, first time downloading a mod.
Try reinstalling the mod and using the 4gb patch on the kingdoms.exe and the medieval.exe not the elder scrolls one.
I had to rename the 6.4 folder as americas, but I don't know if that last patch worked as it was the only thing that didn't work. Even with the twcenter download, it couldn't find kingdoms...

Been awhile. But I just tried this. When I rename the copy of the exe file to just say Kingdoms, it turns it into some other file and not an exe file. The only way for me to keep it as an exe file is to add .exe to the end of it. And when I do that, it won't load. I get an error. Any idea how to get it to continue to be an exe file even after changing the name to just kingdoms?

I downloaded the third age total war(3.2) mos 1.7 submod using your guide , I think everything is installed correctly. I try to launch the batch file and the mod opens, but a windows host error pops up in the background, saying permission denied for the "G5BAISWITCHER.vbs" file. The game runs for a bit but after a couple of minutes it crashes.
Im thinking ok, since I read a permission denied maybe i should run the batch file as admin. I do and now the mod doesn't even open and the console NOW reads "cannot find medieval2.exe or kingdoms.exe". So that brought me here. The thing is, I already have both a kingdoms.exe and a medieval2.exe in my Medieval 2 Total War install folder, as you showed in the video. Tried a couple of fresh installs, didn't help. Is it a related issue?
I've just got the Elder Scrolls Mod. It would keep loading as the vanilla game before, so I installed the new patch and now it loads the Elder Scrolls mod, ut crashes instantly. Any fixes for this?
Hmm did you try a fresh reinstall of the mod?
Celtic Warband I just attempted to re-install the mod completely, I then downloaded the newest patch and hotfix on the mods page, ran their 4GB patch for Kingdoms and the medieval.exe and it seems to have worked!

Any news about the fact after trying this and other things like re-install a fresh medieval 2 a dozen times and still launch the vanilla medieval 2 ? By the way, it's about the mod "The elder scrolls 1.6", all my other mods launch correclty even the previous versions of that mod except the 1.6 which as been release the 1st Dec, I'm kinda desperate since i tried every solutions a tons of times :/

Are you sure the kingdoms.exe file is in the right folder? Needs to be in the Medieval 2 folder.
@@CelticWarband Yeah it's all in the right folder I fixed the problem myself already and it was a problem I created and forgot about lol I set the launch options to Third age Reforged and forgot about it iv'e had Reforged uninstalled for months now so I changed it to launch Elder scrolls total war instead and with the instructions you gave in the video it worked instantly! It was both relieving and a little infuriating on my part but thank you for all the help in the video and even replying to a year+ video really appreciate it!!

Help please!! I’ve installed TWTA and I’ve changed the America’s folder in Kingdoms to Third Age, all was good and the screen loaded up with the third age page but it went black straight away and a message popped up saying ‘third age total war encountered an unspecified error and will now exit’ I have no idea what to do, I’m using Steam
Try reinstalling third age. That is a general error so any number of things can be wrong...

Yes it should be just kingdoms. Then make sure to "run as administrator"

I can email it to you if you think that might help. You would just have to unpack it and put it in your med2 folder.

so ive tried this and it sorta worked, but now every time i try to start the game, it opens the normal game....

I installed everything only Third Age remains. And i cannot do that by myself.

I had the definive edition, but it only showed the shortcut for the vanilla game. I thought I was ripped off. But then I went into my library in Steam, double clicked on medieval 2, and it showed an icon and you could choose if you wanted to play vanilla or expansions. Looked like this:
(There is a bubble icon here to select) -Medieval 2 Total War
-Medieval 2 Total War Americas
-Brtainia etc etc

So far, I seem to have everything replaced, but when I try to start a campaign, it jist goes back to the main menu.
This has happened to me as well... either that or when you click start nothing happens. I just reinstalled and it worked.

I have downloaded third age 4.3 and placed in mods folder in my E:/medival/mods drive. When I run M2TWEOP GUI it gives me error saying can not find kingdoms or medival2.exe.
Did you extract it before placing in the mods folder?

What should I do if, after doing all this, it precedes to run the vanilla copy of medieval 2 total war with Great Britain and Spain. I have a copy of the application renamed kingdoms exactly as described. I'm not sure what else to do as I've even tried renaming the mod americas and then running it through steam and it launches... but not properly and is unplayable once I get into the Grand Campaign.
Which mod are you trying to get to work?
That is a pathway issue I believe... it is ignoring the mod and launching the med2 exe instead. Are you sure its installed in the right folder?
Did you extract it properly? And are you sure it isnt in a double folder g mistake? Like med2/mods/elderscrolls/elder scrolls?
Hmm email me I'll send you my files. Delete yours and extract mine into your med2 mods folder. It's worth a shot.
Theoretically yes... but if you extracted it wrong or your files were corrupted during download then my files might to better. But try a fresh install of medieval 2 and kingdoms DLC then try reinstalling it again.

What if someone doesn't have kingdoms, has the disc version of the game so he doesn't use Steam and wants to play mods that require kingdoms?
Unfortunately most of the mods are built off of the Kingdoms DLC and not the main game. So they are required for the mods to work.

Hi i have problem on kingdom exe and followed the steps but still it doesn't work on my account.
Try multiple times and also you can try "kingdoms.exe" as the name... for some reason people have had success with that.

Ok so it cleared the kingdoms error but uncovered the general med2 error. Id suggest reinstalling whatever mod you are working with.
the mod still doesn't work. After clicking the application, I get the start screen for a few seconds and then the game turns off. Changing the application name to "kingdoms.exe" does nothing. Do you know what to do?

If i click on the Planet war 5 exe. its tells me it cant find the kindoms exe., but if i click on anything else that can open a mod in MTW2 if just opens reforged.

Are you sure you added the exe into the correct folder? And is your mod properly installed?
If i rename medieval2exe into kingdoms without the exe, it turns into a useless file and if i let the exe remain it wouldn't work of course. Any idea of what the issue might be and how to solve it?

You don't need one. It's a DLC or expansion. So it launches using either the med2 exe or the kingdoms exe.
The only launcher icon i have is the medieval2 file, which when i double click opens only the Medieval2, not the kingdoms mods. I bought it now on steam cause all these years i had it cracked, but i never faced such a problem.
If you bought it on steam it should be the definitive edition which includes the kingdoms DLC

I downloaded SS6.3 and tried launching it, it said "Kingdoms not found". I then did as the video said, and then it replied with "medieval 2 suffered a fatal error". I don't know much about modding, I did follow your video on how to download SS. Now when I launch it, it opens up the original game and crashes when I end turn
Hmm ok did you make sure to make a copy of the med2 file and rename it? Not rename the one and only med2 exe to kingdoms? That can cause the crash.

Did you ever change the launch pathway for medieval 2 total war in the past? Because it sounds like Med2 is only launching when there is a Kingdoms exe which is wrong. Med2 should launch using the Med2 exe. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling Medieval 2 fresh. Then try the kingdoms exe again.
