Dave Brown was just talking about this on Chris Milan's podcast and said that getting the jump on Coxe was the one thing in his career that he regretted.
Coxe was double tough, never backed away. Caught Kocur right on the chin and dropped him and had one of the best fights of all time with Probert in Detroit, 87'i believe.
I kinda remember the enforcer code not being a thing until the staged fights of the 2000's. The 70's and 80's fights were more out of pure anger and dislike, they didnt wait around for anything.
Brown was a tough son of a bitch, but was a sneaky cheap shot artist. A guy that sized being a bit of a coward at heart. I would have loved him trying to sneak or sucker Georges LaRogue,George would beat the hell out of him. Always had trouble with Chris niland, who's specialty was getting inside on the big guys and outlasting them. He suckered Probert in one fight and punched him while he was down and Bob got up and beat the hell out of him.
Brown was a piece of shit who used to jump guys all the time, hit them when they were down, and would tie his left sleeve so tight around his arm it could have been used as a tourniquet! Tough SOB, but also a talentless thug
Grigori Rasputin Yeah, those 45 career goals--about 3 a year--are quite amazing.......as well as the fact he went 3 straight years once without scoring any! When is he going into the Hall Of Fame? And next time you're blowing him, make sure you get his balls! 👍
are you insane? ofc he wasn't bossy he was the toughest enforcer around but he wasn't a liability on defence and scored every once in a while, he wasn't worse than miller, kordic or crowder idiot!
Actually parts of 15 seasons...but with the average season being 80 games and Brown playing a career total of 729 games, it was about 48 games per season. Not too bad for what his role was.But why do yo need to resort to name calling if you disagree?
Going back and watching many of Brown’s fights he often broke many of the accepted norms. Hit guys repeatedly when they were down and often just started swinging from an advantageous position. Most fighters are too honourable to say it but the tapes speak for themselves. No doubt he was super tough but also way past dirty.
Wendel Clark was the same. He was known for consistently jumping guys. He punched guys in the face 3 times before they even knew they were in a fight, never mind get their gloves off.
@@r.edward5701 Your Absolutely right sir, their was no code baloney. You fought to win in those days. Almost any fighter could win against a top fighter in one single fight. It was great entertainment. Those guys never got paid enough money for sacrificing the punishment they took. All the fighters were great 👍
@@mirandasalinas9412 I played a bit. When we fought, we fought. You're not thinking...oh sir is your knee on the ice?? Let me stop swinging during this adrenaline rush.
Coxe sounds like a great down to earth guy. He gives props to other enforcers in the league who “hit hard” and talks about getting stitches like it’s nothing. A mans man. It’s Miller time Craig!!
@Jim Browski I have always said brown was a cowardly enforcer. If I was coaching against him I would have four tough guys jump him one right after the other with the best one last to give him a taste of his own medicine. Then maybe he would have some respect for the very difficult job that they did. hopefully he would follow the honor code for one of the few times in his career.
Craig coxe ran Brown up against the boards. It's shown on the video. They both dropped their sticks at the same time. This is seen on video. Coxe picked a fight and got fucking destroyed. Too bad go cry to mommy 👩
What a cool guy. "After I got beat up by Crowder ..." lol Good grief, getting punched by Dave Brown had to be one of life's more challenging moments. Coxe should have known, Brown usually got the drop on his victims. I briefly met him when he played with the Admirals in Milwaukee. That team variously had Antoski and Odjick and a couple really tough guys named Cam Brown and Peter Bakovic. Todd Hawkins, a really talented tough dude who was a bit lethargic but could really throw them when he was disturbed. Craig is a great person, he was the nicest guy to all the fans at Major Goolsby's and other bars and strip joints that wish to remain anonymous. He took on Probert and Kocur at Joe Louis. Fought them both, same night. Beat Joey, drew with Probie. Nobody did that back in the day. Mad props to Craig Coxe.
Steve Drake Yeah, took some major cajones to take on those two guys in the same game at Joe Louis back then.....Coxe took some lumps early on in his career, but took on all comers and was actually a decent player, too
Probie vs Coxe, one of the greatest heavyweight bouts, EVER...! Hats off to Coxe and to all the tough guys but Bob Probert was the "King", all things considered...!
The fight with Brown th-cam.com/video/dQ6C-tYdfsw/w-d-xo.html even though Brown jumped him, some respect given that he let up when he realized the damage he did to Coxe.
Jumping someone? Since when is it illegal to jump someone in a fight? That's just good fighting, beat the other guy to the punch. If you GET jumped, you don't know how to fight. What are supposed to do wait for the other guy to get ready and square himself away? Maybe adjust his mouthpiece, tighten his chin strap, get both his hands up???
Nah, Brown didn't go by the code. Usually fighters have mutual start. Not Brown. He would land a good punch before your gloves are off. Ridiculous cause he was tough enough to not have to do that but he won alot of fights based on that.
+Grigori Rasputin And he TKO'd Kocur, fought Probert. He was a warrior, played in the toughest era ever and the asinine comments from a youtube keyboard means jackshit.
Brownie when asked by Chris Nilan about his biggest regret said he regretted jumping u
Dave Brown was just talking about this on Chris Milan's podcast and said that getting the jump on Coxe was the one thing in his career that he regretted.
Brownie was a destroyer. Props to Coxe he never backed down.
That fight with Probert was legendary. If you've never seen it,I highly recommend it....
He had 2 tremendous fights with Probie!
@@michaelbarry5933 Tough way to make a living back then, huh??? EVERYBODY WAS TOUGH...
I could listen to his stories all day.
this guy had balls
This is fantastic stuff, please post the whole thing!

LOVED Coxe!! Always came to fight!!
Brown said that is his biggest regret jumping Coxe
I was stunned to find out he was from CA!
Tough guy, Coxe was..
Brown was the biggest violator of the code.
I kinda remember the enforcer code not being a thing until the staged fights of the 2000's. The 70's and 80's fights were more out of pure anger and dislike, they didnt wait around for anything.

I wish he could of played in the NHL longer

I agree ......No code there

This code crap is a laugh.

"Brown usually got the drop on his victims."
Yeah, because the POS would cheap shot people and then drop his gloves before squaring off.
Probert was teeing off on Coxe at the end of that fight and had him in a really vulnerable spot. W for 24. No disrespect to Coxe just what I saw
@@tomkuntz8568 The biggest guy in the league was just as big of a piece of shit.
Didn't draw Probert..clear loss
Brown jumping someone! What a surprise?

I don't know about that. I saw plenty of his fights where they were both squared up.
it isn't illegal to jump someone, but its a bitch move
Brown beat up everyone, he retired 20 years ago and people still cried how he dominated their hometeam heavyweights ROFL
Really? I challenge you to name 5.
punching bag, for a big man 6"4 225 in his prime he mostly get his ass kicked, his win/loss ratio is about 1 win for 5 losses.
Grigori Rasputin Lazy comment. He was nowhere near 225 in his prime and had a much better record than that. Cue bass solo.
Yes he did.
