Do you think that a carry handle mounted optics such as the pa rapter would be a good idea or is there something better for a carry handle mounted optic
I’ve been watching you for probably close to ten years now. I’m active duty now and have learned WAAY more from you than I EVER have from my leadership. Thank you for these amazingly informative videos.
Appreciate it brother. I can't believe I've been on TH-cam that long, ha.
Outstanding presentation once again. When the M249 SAW came out in the late 1980s it was a dream come true for me. Prior I was an M-60 machinegunner and I hated the gun because it was cumbersome for my size. I took the opportunity then to be an M249 SAW gunner. I loved it's weight, firepower, reliability, accuracy, and ease of maintaining. Being a Paratrooper once upon a time, it was easier to jump with. I never got hung up with my weapons jump case getting snagged on the seat when go time went. The SAW was a great base of fire weapon for the fire time for suppression of enemy fire and fluidity of movement when possible. I was able to carry more ammo and have everyone in the team carry a spare drum when needed.
Thanks for watching and commenting brother.
One update is needed to address drone and UAV. This is great content. Brings you back to an OD green book and a written exam while surviving death by power point.
It’s crazy you don’t have more subs and views, the editing and production quality on your more recent videos is fantastic! Really impressed with this one in particular. Keep up the good work👌

I'd love to see a new enemy weapons video on near-peir threats, especially China. Not much is known comply about standard Chinese weapons and I know it's almost impossible to get your hands on most PLA weapons but it would be intresting if you could do some digging and maybe do a basic briefing of how to operate the weapons and try and make do without physical examples
Great stuff Brent

Great video. BUT considering some of the conflicts we see atm: Ukraine, Syria, Myanmar, Parts of Middle-East (as always)...we see another role being standardized: UAV/FPV Drone Operator.
Also, Thermal is a killer, does somebody with that (when rest of squad doesn't) constitute something similar to a Cmd/RTO?
2:42 Targeting a technical... Grenade launcher beats individual mid-cal rifle, but what about 50bmg? Or other hardened positions (if RPG not available)
Great info!👍
Outstanding video Brent.
Appreciate it.
DM’s were issued the Mk12 after the M16A4. The DM version of the M27 came much later.
As a prior USMC DM, I’m curious as to why enemy sharpshooters/snipers were left out of the priorities list.
Id put DMRs on the same plane as crew weapons
If I had to prioritize enemy DMs I'd put them with or just under crew served weapons on a DMs TGT list. But I don't think they're going to be easy to discriminate. Think of a Marine rifle squad now a days where every rifleman is armed with a M27 with a LPVO on it. Enemy snipers I believe are #1 on a snipers target precedence list.
@@Brent0331 Was a PIG in STA Plt. as well. Enemy marksman came in no. 2 behind command/comms.
The problem is scout snipers aren’t aren’t always available, especially now that the USMC has scrapped STA platoons at the battalion level.
It’s a lot easier to go unnoticed if no one is supposed to be looking for you. But, overlooking and underestimating skilled marksmen has been a hallmark mistake of US conventional forces repeated over and over again.
Best channel on TH-cam Gunny.
Awesome! Military stuff goes deep - some NATO allies have still not heard of anything like this.
Awesome video and lessons learned ❤❤❤

Hey, Brent. Soon-to-be-2Lt (USMC) Here. Heading to TBS soon, and trying to get started on studying. You and Dr. Larsen were different branches, so how much overlap is there in USMC and US Army tactics, verbage, terminology, etc? Trying not to confuse myself.
Also, for all of the Amazon book list, are basically all of the books applicable? Or should I just stick to the USMC's MCDP pubs?
Congratulations as a 2Lt you will receive precedence from friend and foe... good luck.
Read Warfighting MCDP1 and I recommend using that to guide you through your time of service. My current platoon commander told me today he use that pub as a philosophy on the way he trains his Marines and live as a Marine. Semper Fi
If you are going to be a LT, learn from the schools and training YOUR BRANCH puts you through. Learn THEIR terminology. Then as the concepts cement you can learn from the other branches.
Learn YOUR BRANCHE'S foundational concepts and learn it the way THEY teach it. Because that is the context you will be working within.
After you have mastered the concepts within your branch, then there will be no confusion as you look at other branches and what they have to say. Because you will have the framework, context, and foundation to understand what the differences are and what is said.
Otherwise you are asking the difference between Chemistry and Organic Chemistry without having taken a Chemistry class.
Awesome brother good luck. There is a lot of cross over in terms of infantry tactics. Many of Docs books are extremely applicable like "Light Infantry Tactics". Also, the one gentlemen who said MCDP1, that is a good read, and any other pub for that matter. If you really want to know the importance of the Marine NCO in the Infantry, pick up "The last hundred yards".
Big thing to keep in mind as an LT is to heed the advice of your Marines, especially the ones actually doing the job. Use your NCOs and don't micro-manage. It'll help you build trust with your Marines AND make everyone's job easier, including yours
Very Good - Thank You ! !
🙂😎👍
Brent, would you mind making a video covering radio communication?
The M-249 says it can accept magazines but it generally is not recommended as it doesn't work very well.
Thank you.
One point of disagreement - the overall job of a MG gunner is suppressive fire if you are in a combat advance. Keep their heads down while you close with and engage the enemy. Riflemen and grenadiers (thumpers) should be suppressing enemy flanking and opposing mgs. Fire and maneuver.
The m-249 SAW/ M-240 GPMG, the M-203 (or equivalent,) or a LAW/ AT-4/ Carl Gustav/ RAW for dug in positions.
I love the updated Marine Rifle Squad publication (I noticed that was where the first snip it picture came from) but with the new updates to the Marine Squad, do we expect a newer Marine Rifle Squad publication to come out soon?
Maybe, The Marine Littoral Regiments throws a monkey wrench in the equation. We'll see how everything pans out over the next few years.
@@Brent0331 do you have any videos covering your thoughts about the recent changes?

Hello, could you try the rocky Spanish COE uniform? The unit was dissolved in 1996, but the uniform seems very interesting to me, greetings from Spain
Dam good stuff.
Appreciate it.
In an ambush don't fire your LMG until the enemy fires there LMG and put fire on it with your LMG , and radio or como elements who can call Air and artillery , reinforcements ! C and C Elements all simultaneously ! In first 15 seconds.
If you open an ambush before you’ve identified the target’s GPMG or SAW….that’s on you.
Target priorities according to threat:
Troops>trucks
Stationary>moving
Armor>light skinned
Taking down the top target precedence down makes the fight easier. Every level you know off the list - the less effective the enemy can fight.
Thank you
Thanks for watching.

Solid presentation as always 👍
Brent in a Civilian Territorial Defense Force team here in the U.S. we should make sure that each team and squad's Riflemen should have the same rifles say Mini-14, Mini-30, AK Variants, M-4/ AR Variants, SKS, etc. correct?
I'm a dumbass, but I'd say ammo and mags being interchangable matters more until a specific rifle can be issued in correct quantities.
I'd be more afraid of a dozen turkey hunters with 3.5" 12-gauges and full chokes slinging #4 buckshot.
Imagine a dozen of those fired at the same target simultaneously. Hamburger.
Until the taeget is 100+ yards away. Or the turkey hunters have to reload.
Professionals have the same rifle within units.
Why? Because they can make use of armorers and spare parts logistics.
Mag compatability and ammo commonality are a MUST!!!
Some jackass trys loading 300blk into his 5.56 or someone else starts stuffing 5.56 into a 7.62x39... bad days.
But the key is if you have a group of friends you want that group to be able to have a common standard and you want to include people who can keep your tools up and running. Otherwise you end up with expensive paper weights.
Even better is if you have an armorer who can check wear levels and do preventative maintenance BEFORE there are catastrophic failures.
Additionally, having all the same gun you take advantage of institutional knowledge without having to learn the hard way.
What range do you sight your weapon in at?
How do you use the sights?
How do you set up your sling?
What are common wear items?
Etc
I agree with these other guys, you should strive to have the same caliber and magazine compatibility. today you can pick up a PSA AR-15 in the $500 range, there's really no reason why everyone in your civil defense group can't be equipped (as a riflemen) with an AR15.
I have the AR15 that uses 300AAC
What upper, barrel, and bipod are you using for the mag fed automatic rifle you presented?
Klein Machining AR-RPK. I have a couple videos on it.
Is this Sig m250 any good?
I would think radio operators or drone guys would take top priority over an officer.
The fight is over when the bombs start landing!
God forbid it be Mr. Ardie!
👏🏼
Helle ok ok 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏
i wonder how a Designated Shotgunner would be
i like how the command and control guy looks like evil copy of ian mccollum.
And lets the stogie do the talking...
If you think about magic/armor advantage and weaknesses in JRPGs, even the Pokemon series, you'll realize you were setting target precedence according to your findings and/or known combat practice not unlike what Brent mentions.
I believe an a-10 would be the best weapon system for mass formations or dug in position
B1B would be mine
I guess mortars will be less needed in future modern world. Today we need more computer technicians to counter cyber crimes.
Depends what war you are fighting.
@@woodsghost9088 my commentary is a reminder, homefront is now.
Ok, that's fair. Good points.
Why the vehicle gotta be light skinned!?
if it was thick skinned our words couldn't hurt it
@@s0nnyburnett that’s why god invented the carl gustav.
I know, it's kinda racist.
or your enemy could have updated versions of everything you have, including night vision and thermals. train up.
the marine corps using 5.56 DMRs is definitely an anomaly. uk, germany, russia, even the other branches of the american military prefer larger caliber. i would argue a 5.56 DMR is similar to the army using an LMG as an automatic rifle; out of place.
SPR's have been used by special forces for a while. The idea is that its compatible with ammo and mags your squadmates are carrying which among infantry is really useful. If you need more range or a "stopping power" bring out an actual sniper rifle, IE the m40 or Mk22.
@@fiskersproductions DPRs have been out of service for a few years now. that idea is simply not practical, 5.56 has a terrible BC
@@or6060it's not perfect, but up to you to decide what matters more: magazine and ammo and likely parts compatibility or increased performance
