    My wife and I were just talking about this. YT must have overheard us as this popped up in my feed. LOL. Tires on my motorcycle are 15 years old. It has been sitting in a carport for the last 6 years. I won't drive it until they are replaced, so I strapped it to a trailer when we moved. And I can definitely tell the difference in traction with the 6 year old tires on my Corvette. Because the 'vette will test a tire's maximum capability, this is as old as they will get. I plan to replace them this fall. If it was a Corolla, I would be far less concerned.

    One thing tire dealers don't like to talk about is actually THE most important thing to consider when buying BRAND NEW big name tires. Like the video says, be sure to check the DOT date of manufacture stamped into the sidewall before you get them installed. Selling out-dated and dangerous 'new' tires is quite common and has caused many accidents and DEATHS! Tires have a total lifespan of only 6 or 7 years max. and that is INCLUDING time spent in a warehouse regardless of what the tire manufacturers or resellers might say ($$$). It is quite possible to buy 'NEW' tires that were actually made 6 years OR MORE ago that are already considered to be UNSAFE tires by the leading automobile makers and should not be sold for any price. The tire industry doesn't really care about your safety obviously. Buyer beware.

    This is all very nice , I’ve worked in the tire business for 45 years. Back when there was 6 sizes and 8 models it was pretty easy to roll a fresh inventory. But now with over 13000 skus-800 sizes and global sourcing... tell me mister expert how to get a fresh set of tires. If you drive an SUV with 225/65r16 no problem... if you drive an exotic... good luck. If tires are stored in a controled warehouse and not in a container or shack... tires are good for a long time....and the 5 year manufacture deffect starts on the date installed not on the fabrication date...I’ve never had a problem with any.

    Funny people these days will run their tires till they are about to blow apart because they dont want to pay for them. But they will get that new Iphone without hesitation every year it comes out.

    had a tire from 1988 on my suburban about 4 months ago...if you check your tires often you can catch a failure before it happens. currently have a jan 1993 uniroyal tigerpaw on dads truck, no signs of failure yet.

    I used the full-size spare from the trunk, 13 years old, never been on the road, properly inflated, and it blew the "cap" off in 10 miles (the tread).
    The tire held air so I could get off the Interstate safely.

    Totally depends on the usage and storage conditions. A tire that has always been kept in a garage and not exposed to a lot of sunlight or extreme heat should last 10 years without any issue as long as there's enough tread left.

    Even if there's no scientific proof that old tires are dangerous, why take the chance? Your life is worth far more than the price of a new set of tires. Old tires may be fine for thousands of miles, but it's that one instant when it fails that matters most. Rubber degrades with age due to UV exposure, ozone, and other environmental factors. An unused tire is even worse. Tire rubber compounds are made with anti-aging waxes and compounds that surface with use.
    A tire may look fine on the outside, but all of the structure is in the inner casing. The rubber serves zero structural purpose; it's only there to protect the casing. A new set of tires runs $500-$1500 depending on vehicle type. Is your life worth saving that money? Is the risk of severe injury from an accident really worth saving money? Don't take a chance on your life.

    Old tires will run just as well if they're good condition. Find out the proper PSI you have to run, and constantly cheek your tires pre and during trip.

    Just got new tires on my car, bought them from Sears, they put 2010 tires on the front, 2012 on the back. People should probably request new tires all the way around! Needless to say we called the Assistant mngr this evening, and will have to call the main mngr tomorrow. Will be requesting two 2012's on the front...

    tread release on a tire could also be possible by having a default unnoted during the assembly of it. see it on retreads all the time

  • @starbolin

    There is no legal basis for declaring an unused, unsold, tire as anything but new.
    I doubt they age even half as fast sitting indoors as they do on your car.
    I've got a spare for my truck that is 20 something years old. It has no cracking, no blisters, and no delamination. My tire guy has checked it several times a says it's good. The reason for th longevity is that tire stays cool and out of the sun. Jee, just like the tires in the warehouse.

    Maxxis, the best tires according to Ford, in perfect condition having only 4000 km on them. Driving 60mph max, I'm not gonna change them unless they show wear & tear.

    Um when a tire got cracks time to replace it that be because of age and if it don’t have cracks and it’s old trust me it will just matter of time. My Good Year tires are only 4 years old they got small cracks the grip is still good but I’m not risking my life with cracks getting new tires soon.

    From my 35 year experience owning a car & trailer , tires sitting for years on a vechical especially outdoors have issues. and tires in use the flexing of the rubber keeps them in good shape I drove on a set for over 16 years and had to replace them due to being low on tread. AIR PRESSURE IS CRITICAL !!! too low they over heat & blow or loos the cap. Overloading is a major issue as we see with those 4.80-8 trailer tires witch should be for garden use only. I has only one blow out no accident

    • @bremCZ
      @bremCZ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chuck B If they are too low they will not blow out from over heating they will blow out from excessive sidewall distortion.

    With any product there can be defects. Again my experience has been good .I know speed is a factor many people drive too fast for the tire type. Look at this >a farm wagon travels at 40 mph at the most ,and I`v seen them with tires up to 60 years old still in use.

    • @ryans413
      @ryans413 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chuck B Tires don’t age because of speed you might ware the grip out faster but tires just age they get old plus heat from the sun drys out the tires and rots them they start to crack and when that happens you need new tires regardless of what the tread is like

  • @Zickcermacity

  • @graffsucks
    @graffsucks 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I thought I had new tires but yet 5 years later he was dead well why the fuck are you driving on the same set of tires for five years that was your first problem that fact that they were four years old when you bought has little to do with the fact that you drove on the same tires for five years I usually go a max of a year cause I put a lot of miles in

  • @DZEyoyo123

    The age of the tire doesn't really effect safety if the tire was stored properly and kept out of the sun to avoid dry rotting.

    when did tires start going bad after 6 years? did they change the manufacturing process some how. Never heard of a tire life span rated in years before this.

    • @_BAD_MERC_
      @_BAD_MERC_ 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      SWMARTINA They don't just go bad like food. It's a gradual invisible degradation of rubber on a molecular scale due to influences from heat, cold, and UV exposure. A tire bears tons of weight while being heated and hammered on pavement. All the while internal pressure and rotational inertia are pulling it apart. Tires are in a hostile environment while doing a strenuous job. Tread can separate and fly off causing vehicle damage, loss of control, or in many cases - rollover and fatalities. Six years seems like they'd be new but at 10K miles a year that's more miles than most tires last. Remember the Firestone incidents with Ford Explorers? It was the perfect storm. High center of gravity and tire failure. But everyone blamed Ford. Tire maintenance would have altered the outcome of most of those incidents.

      conan howard Tire actually makes more etymological sense.
      The word tire comes from the term 'wheel attire' which was the name given to the metal band wrapped around wooden wheels to keep them held together.
      The spelling tyre, makes more logical sense as far as being able to differentiate a word out of context from another word spelt the same.
