Mike you know how to pick 'em! A dead 20 year old Jag with 200,000+ miles that's sat for 8 years! With all kinds of dings and dents. What a great car for a project. Perhaps you should have let this one RIP. But I'll keep on watching you turn wrenches on whatever you drag home. 😉
@@MonkeyWrenchMike whens the wedding and and am I invited I could do the solos (I'm related to Fats domino and I'm fluent in all kinds of music and I could bring Mercedes parts as a wedding gift!
'Its a Jaaaaaaaag', as J Clarkson says...... but im sure you have heard the story that 'you need 2 Jags to keep one on the road'. Anyway it will be a fun video to watch... I do love the 'Big Cats'.
Great video Mike &Randy and also your friend Misty she seems great and has a great sense of humor and pretty too Looks like you have a little work ahead of you but know you will get it running 😊
Those Jaguars have shifter isues because the plastic piece snaps. Unsnap the line and use a screwdriver to make sure it is in Neutral or Park to start it. If that doesn't work, change put the whole ignition assembly and key set from a junkyard.
Hay Mike, that S-Type is beautiful but do a first wash video and see how good you can make it look plus always nicer working on a clean car. Keep up the fantastic videos
You should get away from the Mercedes and BMW and do jaguars of others! You really should! Keep it up Mike that was the best video bro!!!! Love your best friend! Hope she can be in a bit more videos!!!
A gorgeous car Mike !!! Does the original key have a chip in it as part of the alarm / mobilizer? And the valet key not have that chip ? I'd have a good read of the user manual.
Hello from the UK... None of the "Jag-war" rubbish,, it's Jag-U-ar. I have an X351 XJ. Best car I have ever had, and unusual for you guys in the States, mine is a 3-litre V6 Twin Turbo Diesel! Can I also add, I am from Birmingham UK, and this car would have been made 3 miles from where I lived.
you know you can open the boot with the key? where you put your fingers on the latch to open the boot, feel to the left of this and theres a little key hole out of sight for emergency entry.
When you were struggling get the boot open I nearly screamed at my screen there is an emergency keyhole hidden above the license plate on the bootlid handle
The steering lock is electronic on these you should hear it actuating when you insert the key as for the emobiliser diferent years of S-Types had diffrent systems but the valet key will not have the immobiliser chip so it will not start the car you will need a new master key programed
Go to keyless entry keyfob and get a master key with the key fob have it cut, then you can program the key .......yes the immobilizer prevents the car to be started any other way.......
I am in the UK & have heard of problems with some jags that have been left with a flat battery & it's not good, I was told that the ecu has to be reprogrammed as it's software becomes corrupt, A person i know changed a clutch on a Jag & had the battery disconnected for only 2 days, When he reconnected it he had this same problem & it was what i stated above, Ended up scrapping the car as the quote to reprogram the ECU outweighed the value of the car, I hope you have better luck than he did!.
Funny timing! I just won a 2002 s type with 270,000 miles for $350 at auction. Mine is a run and drive and has all of its paint though. These are pretty good cars with the exception of the ford transmission. In 03, they switched to a zf unit for obvious reasons. With high mileage, it's almost certainly been rebuilt or replaced.
Im crossing my fingers that you dont have any electrical problems Mike as you will pull youre hair out chasing them on any jaaags. By the way you two were definitely cut from the same cloth, you two bounce of each other in perfect timing, no wonder you've been friends for so long. Hope to see more of Indiana Mike and the Jaag of doom 😮 laters chuckles Gary 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Hi Mike, I'm Hervé from France. Well, if you think the immobilizer keeps the engine off, maybe you should ask to a Jaguar dealer close to you. More especially as you can prove this is not a stolen car as you have all the papers, the key and you know the owner. I guess all the cars (my brother got that issue with a small Renault car) have a code with several numbers digits and with this combination of numbers and dedicated swiches such lights/odometer reset, computer set, .... It's a code like the radios you have to enter when the radio is plug off and then plug on. Maybe this code is written in the official papers of the car. Anyway, I guess Jaguar can find this code in their datas bank with the serial number of the car. Maybe you can start with the code and the right procedure, but you'll have to make the procedure code everytime you'll want to start the engine (again my brother experience !!) Replace the entire immobilizer probably will cost a lot. Good luck Mike !! (I'm a Jeep fan and owner ).
I bought a similar one of these for $400 a few years ago and it wouldn't start after the previous owner struck a mailbox, turned out these are basically Ford's and have a fuel kill switch in the passenger front kick panel so you should check that to see if its active
Mike, these are great cars but they develop weird quirks with age. I owned a 2004 Lincoln LS which shares the same parts. On my LS and most likely your Jag the solenoid pack and EGR share the same fuse , in my case my faulty EGR would blow the fuse and cause the car to remain stuck in gear. The suspension can be pretty pricy to repair, specifically the control arms. Ford/Jag updated their control arms after the first generation of LS so that they wouldn’t break under the power of the s type R. If you get that far into the weeds just buy the gen 1 control arms and they should fit up. Good luck !
There's a key hole under the licence (number) plate light plinth to open the trunk (boot) when the battery is dead. The steering wheel lock is electric. The ignition lock also has a little flap that clicks a switch when you take the key out, & they get sticky, so clean & lube your flaps! Also, check the gearshift parking switch, and the brake switch, as they also control whether or not the starter engages. ... The Jag V8 NEEDS a good battery, they don't work properly with tired or undersized batteries, so that needs sorting out (also, when you fit a new battery, all kinds of warnings will come up, you have to start & run it 2 or 3 times before the computer clears all the warnings, so don't panic!) .. I`d like to know why there's no oil at all, & no coolant.. Is there undercarriage damage? Rad damage? a chunk out of the pan (sump)? The heater valves can leak in the engine bay, I guess you`ll find out when you get water in it & run it.. So, check your flaps, & check your undercarriage!
Hello Mike aka Monkey Wrench Mike and Randy. Let's see if you can get it on Randy's trailer. I bet the battery is behind the front wheel or in the trunk.
Hi Mike. I'm not trying to be a smart-xxx but wouldn't one of the family members have the master key and key fob? That would be the easiest way to deal with the immobilizer stuff. Good luck figuring it out-- it seems like a good car so far.
Those Jaguars are the most beautiful things Ford has made on the global market❤
I agree. I think the S Type perfectly balanced the past with the present. I think it was the most underrated car.
