I still can't believe you saved this one! When Randy first showed it, I thought it was headed for the junkyard for sure. Great work, Mike, your efforts are appreciated.
Only you know what is worth Mike . It is your car if you sell it differently get your money back and a little extra for your hard work. You and Lola have an awesome day!😊
Who says hard work doesn't pay , congratulations Mike if people look up the definition of persistent hard work their see a picture of you old chap well done chuckles. Gary 🇬🇧🇬🇧
@@robertselkirk674 We need a video of Randy and Mike driving this car soon. Just enjoying the car at a car meet or something. Are there german car meets in the States?
The original color was probably Champagne beige metallic which does have a sort of pinkish hue to it. I worked at a BMW dealership back then and it was the color of the first 7 series we received in 1995. It does have a pinkish tint to it but I thought it was a great looking car. The early cars were plagued with the Nikasil engine problems and we replaced a lot of engines in 95 and 96. You got the common PCV valve issue figured out but the other Achilles heel is the timing chain and guides. When the cars reach 100k miles you're on borrowed time before they fail and jump time. If those haven't been done, or you don't know for sure, my advice is sell it asap. They're great cars if you keep up on the maintenance.
I've come late to this party 🥳 (subscribed a couple of weeks ago), but any resurrection of an E38 is worth applause and admiration 👏 My favorite car 🖖🙏
When you look at the BMW when Randy brought it home and all the problems it had while looking like a rat condo and see to it now it is amazing that it was possible. Worth all the work from rescuing it from its LKQ future to what it is today. Paint is wonderful and the price is excellent. New parts yard with better prices and they have the parts you need. That doesn't happen often. Good scanner for a reasonable price. I'd have to drive the car for a while so everyone had a chance to admire what you've done.
MWM, my friend. You’ve outdone yourself on this one. It was, at best, a parts car when Randy bought it. If I recall correctly, scrap was about $250 per pound at the time so he basically bought it for it’s scrap value. And just look at what you’ve done: you turned a 4000 pound pile of scrap metal into a car that many people would be proud to drive, the ultimate silk purse! I know you’ll drive yourself crazy if you spend too much time nit-picking the paint job, so don’t! We obsessive-compulsive car guys can always find flaws in finish work that most people can’t notice, so these days I try to concentrate on the 95% of excellence and I suggest you do the same. I was so insanely O-C when I was in my ‘20’s that I once sold my favorite Corvette a month after paying $10k to have it stripped to bare fiberglass and painted. I couldn’t stand the fact that the paint shop corrected the fender seems that slightly showed on most ‘68s from the factory! I miss that one but in hindsight I learned to appreciate and enjoy the 95% excellent parts of a car. Also, I’m amazed that you got a 95% excellent paint job for $1100. I would have thought that the paint and materials would have cost more than that. Wonderful, wonderful job you’ve done on that now beautiful E36 Mike! Peace, DrRick
Hi Mike, you’ve worked very hard on that vehicle over the months credit to you. Can’t wait to see you start on the Suzuki. Keep the great videos coming. Thank you🙏
Hey Mike, I just saw today’s video on the BMW. You did a awesome job on it. I hope you have a good day and I can’t wait to see your next video and I know you’re friends with Randy from auto auction rebuilds. If you see him tell him I said hi. I’ll talk to you later. Have a good day.
Mike the cars looking very nice, i would tint the windows and use restorer on the black sills etc, i would keep her as they will become very rare as we move into all this electric stuff.
Hi Mike... The BMW is looking very nice! I love it when someone takes the time to bring a car back from the edge of an untimely death. Your doing a great job fixing up some older vehicles that would surely have been picked apart and crushed. I always look forward to seeing your next video...✌
Very nice E38 rescue. Great to see another one saved from the verge of death. Of course there are a few small bits left. The original instrument cluster should be put back in if you decide to sell to remove the tamper dot. Big thing being the timing chain guide job. When you take apart the engine for timing chains, you'll end up replacing all gaskets and hoses to fix the vacuum leak. It also seems like the transmission has a fault. Gary Ferraro has a great series of videos on how to take apart and fix the zf5hp24
I still can't believe you saved this one! When Randy first showed it, I thought it was headed for the junkyard for sure. Great work, Mike, your efforts are appreciated.
Thanks!!
Always nice to see a classic saved! 😊👍 One of the good BMW:s! My own favorite is the E31... had a 1993 V12 850Ci 20 years ago, amazing machine!
Only you know what is worth Mike . It is your car if you sell it differently get your money back and a little extra for your hard work. You and Lola have an awesome day!😊
That car says old money all over the place... I like it!
My dear dead mother always said if you can’t say anything good don’t say anything. Luckily that doesn’t apply here fantastic thumbs up!!
Respect Mike to reveal this old nasty E38 to a nice 7-series again
That car is so beautiful now mikey
Good job Mike! Night and day difference! 😮
Great job Mike. BMW looks million bucks! Put it on the market and ask so you get your money back and bit extra!
