At the end of the day if the music sounds good AND the lyrics speak to me personally, im gonna listen to them. regardless of genre or whether i think they are posers or not.
I sat next to the drummer on a plane ride from their recent European tour. And saw a few other of the band members. Chris is a really cool laidback guy. Fun to talk to. They all seem like really decent people too
+MisterAnthropist oh really? Deathcore is still metal! Just listen to Whitechapel's The Somatic Defilement, Carnifex's Die Without Hope/even some Emmure and try telling me those ain't metal. Even genre has it's own scene but they all mix together to form MOTHERFUCKING HEAVY FUCKING METAL
I get what you're saying by all means. In the end, heavy is heavy. I guess for me it's just the hype words and genre words that tend to get old. Deathcore, sludgewave, whatever the fuck, wish "heavy" was enough. Either way, Harms Way new album...heavy. Mean and heavy.
I like hardcore but I feel like they're a little close minded. Most hardcore bands sounds similar to me but I can still notice a difference. This is a good interview though understanding their perspective is refreshing. Just opinions. (:
That was quite stupid to say that these big festivals like SBSW with security are fake. They have Security to help enforce the rules at Venues and to make sure no crazy people go up on stage and kill you (Dimebag Darrell) sure, some Security guards are assholes but, many are respectful people and if you don't break the rules then you'll be just fine. Rockstar is an Energy Drink and they sponsor tours to help fund them so the band(s) are ABLE to hit up MORE CITIES including YOUR CITY maybe and play in front of MORE PEOPLE that want to see them when if there was no sponsorship then, they wouldn't be financially able to hit up as many places. Also, with the "kids aren't feeling the anger" point so what? Kids can still enjoy the damn music and be happy in life. You should be happy that these certain kids you call "posers" have good lives and not shit ones full of problems like self-harm/bullying/what-not. 4:36 real hardcore per say? real anger? What is real to you? Hardcore shouldn't try to sound like ONE FUCKING THING and, it's nice that some bands like BAAO can sound different and what-not. 5:13 it isn't about making money. THAT IS TRUE and some bands are in it for the money but, every band including YOURS must make ends meet in order to do what you want to do. If you do not have the gas money to drive to a festival 10 hours away to play in front of 200-300 people that wanna' see you and you have to cancel due to financial issues then that would suck A LOT. Most of these bands that are pop punk, metalcore, deathcore whatever are in it for the music just like you. 5:19 real metal? Dude, if it's metal it's fucking real what? You think certain bands like Bring Me The Horizon are holograms or fucking figments of everyone's imagination. GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK. 5:37 deathcore is it's own scene? Maybe but, it's still a part of metal which has like 50+ subgenres that are each their own scene but that's awesome 'cuz there are so many different types of sounds which is what people truly WANT TO HEAR. 5:52 if this "fest" is not your thing why the fuck are you there? You can reject offers y'know. 6:50 "this style of music Is getting commodified" Yeah, sponsors just give you money so that you can have an easier time making your financial needs met and they don't tell you what music to play they just give you money and all you have to do is slap their logo on a guitar amp via sticker and boo-yah. 7:20 "it's extreme" When I went to warped tour/mayhem fest I NEVER FELT LIKE I WAS FORCED TO BUY THE COMPANIES SHIT and I didn't! And, at both they passed out FREE Rockstar/Monster. Sponsors coming in to offer free samples of their products is just an extra part of the festival and most people are still there for the fucking music. 7:33 how black metal bands have satan in their symbol being lame? Well, how about hardcore bands all dressing like they came from the trailer park or inner-city working-class white neighborhood and acting all HARD and shit in their videos(ex: Lionheart) 7:57 don't try to bridge the gap and say "we love Hatebreed?" What's wrong with enjoying certain bands or whatever jesus Christ. Metal/Hardcore share some similar political anti-government messages (Arch Enemy) so, instead of being dicks...why not be more open-minded and unite so we can better fight off mainstream pop music ey? Just a thought. 8:53 i'm not trying to be mean guys but, y'all both seem like pretty big extremists yourself with things you have been stating in this interview. 9:27 i'm really sorry your van got broken into that shit's not cool hope you got your money or whatever it was stolen back. 12:24 that is quite true and i'm glad you guys did something different with your CD. Overall, y'all seem to be passionate musicians that are not rude to people but I had a big issue with some of your points specifically the "real metal" one LMFAO "real" my ass and some thrash metal elitists will literally say that Slayer is complete shit compared to other bands like Testament.
Way late to this video and I love Harm’s Way but there is way too much talk about genres and commercialism here. Who is a poser and who isn’t a poser… shit is meaningless. Every musical artist, famous or not wants their music to be genuine and have meaning for either themselves or for their fans. Companies hold these kind of events yes, to commercialize on popular trends but also to advertise to the kinds of people they want to align their company’s values (or perceived values) with. Obviously it’s nothing new and not exclusive to any genre of music. For the bands, there is nothing wrong with making money on your art, even if you do cater to a generally small, somewhat anti-authority subculture.
I really hate that whole deathcore scene, its all the same sound, same scene, uncreative...it kinda makes me sick. harms way stands out even amongst other powerviolence/hc. I wish them the best
Love this band, but disagree with a lot of what they're saying here. To generalize and say a whole genre is "not genuine" is very closed minded and immature and I don't understand the premise he's basing it off of. Typical elitist mindset.
+billyz slay haha so true if they were open-minded and saying how they actually like how hardcore can be different/what-not i'd be more inclined to be like "ooohhh imma check this band out" instead of "why should I?"
Cuz they are fucking amazing!!! They are one of the best hardcore bands in the last so many years. They are real, they are real hardcore guys. They love the music they love the hardcore scene. The play music that they love and they do it for them and the hardcore kids. The only other hardcore that has come close to them is Knocked Loose and Code Orange. But Harm's Way leads the fucking pack. They are straight edge and proud of it but don't preach it, they just do who they are cuz that's who they are.
Love when people give their honest thoughts and don't hold back. Hope Harm's Way keeps making music and touring.
Genuine hardcore band.I love how he correctly labels rockstar as caned water.
I will always love Harms Way. James took the words right out of my mouth.
This dude looks like a monster and has the vocals of one too. Pure badass
"It's like" "Ya know"
really good to hear james speaking, he should give more video interviews
At the end of the day if the music sounds good AND the lyrics speak to me personally, im gonna listen to them. regardless of genre or whether i think they are posers or not.

man,this interview says it all
I love how they like the hardcore shows, like they are just fans of music , they are just like you and me, there is a family aspect to this
Harms Way / Thank you for your services
That. Is one scary, but cool dude.
Awesome interview! I agree with a lot of what they are saying.
Love the Suffocation shirt!
LIKE LIEK YOU KNOW LIKE LIKE LIKEK LIEK YEAH RIGHT LIKE LIKE THIS LIKE THAT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
5:37 is the truth. im so much more psyched on this band based on that one sentence.

Finally a good interview! They need more publicity, as lame as that sounds.
saw these guys a long time ago at Anchors Up and recently at Middle East... great live band
Damn they honest!!
I like hardcore but I feel like they're a little close minded. Most hardcore bands sounds similar to me but I can still notice a difference. This is a good interview though understanding their perspective is refreshing. Just opinions. (:
Anthony Major I'm with you 100%.
Anthony Major I agree too.
Anthony Major I love these dudes, james is so down to earth manm, I mean they all are but james doesn't get on camera much.
@@JpMetalify depends, I don't see Harms Way discography comparable to Bad Brains, Agnostic Front and Black Flag, sounds another thing to me
Does the drummer have a Jawbreaker shirt on? Jawbreaker is one of my favorite non hardcore or death metal/deathcore bands.
cool to see an interview with these guys. the whole fest convo was kinda dumb. cool bit though.
“We all want society!… begin to make a fist!” 👊 - harm’s way.
Dude brings up letlive lolol
"Its like you know,like...you know what I mean?" It's just like..like,you know?"
And I'm thinking to myself...not really, care to elaborate? Lmao
-Says extreme satanist music is lame-
-Wears Suffocation shirt-
But besides that, this band is dope. Great music.
Have you ever listened to Suffocation ?

shaun harvey Hes straight edge..

People who do steroids have less body fat. People who can't reach those levels bash the ones that worked hard to get there.
He can talk bad about deathcore all he wants , as long as he doesn’t diss SLAM we’re ok 👍🏽

+Electroventure tl;dr u sound a bit mad
Salty asf lol
I'm not gonna read this lol
Electroventure: Spot on! I like Harms Way, but they sound bitter and petty in this interview. Maybe they were having a shitty day.
I would love to see Fronz talk shit about James
SMaddox50 James would fuck Fronz world up lol

Jesus saves lol
I really hate that whole deathcore scene, its all the same sound, same scene, uncreative...it kinda makes me sick.
harms way stands out even amongst other powerviolence/hc. I wish them the best
+Ricardo Santos IV Compare Carnifex's Die Without Hope to After The Burial's In Dreams then come back and try to say the same shit about deathcore
+Electroventure deathcore is honestly trash. That's little middle schooler music.
+Kizzawizzaa HAHAHAHA man u made my day :)
What moral a punk have to say bad things about Deathcore? 90% of hardcore bands do the same shit
I dont really know the difference between all the genres or why they hate each other so much. I just like metal music. Its all metal to me
Love this band, but disagree with a lot of what they're saying here. To generalize and say a whole genre is "not genuine" is very closed minded and immature and I don't understand the premise he's basing it off of. Typical elitist mindset.
He is fucking right though, all those shitcore bands are not genuine, nothing to relate to...
slayer is not metal? .....this guy wants to be taken seriously?
you know..i dont know.... seriously, NEVER DO ANOTHER INTERVIEW.
I ship harms way’s lead meat head with gods hate’s lead meat head. Harms way’s lead meat head is a total power bottom
so much reasons not to listen to this guys....
+billyz slay haha so true if they were open-minded and saying how they actually like how hardcore can be different/what-not i'd be more inclined to be like "ooohhh imma check this band out" instead of "why should I?"

Devil worshiping music. Oh, and steroids too!
You don't lift. And that's a fact. No need to see you.
Is Harm's way a satanic worshiping band>
No they are atheists and believe that life is pointless
