Man that´s a sick project! absolutely great! As an elegant foot sensors you can maybe try a sandwich construction with velostat and copperfoil under the Griptape (similar to the footsensor used in onewheels) but then you need some electronics for the readout.

For sure. Landing a kick flip on this you would still need to time your jump very carefully and land back on, easier said than done I expect. Props to the inventor, super creative
