When my daughter graduated from High School in 2004, I remember writing some of the lyrics from this song into her Graduation card. The last few months she had been having some mental difficulties. Little did we know she was slowly being swallowed up by schizophrenia. College was cancelled and she spent the next year mostly in bed, sleeping. Eventually she was diagnosed and she's on the right meds now, and she's a beautiful person, in a relatively happy place. But she had wanted to be a doctor. Instead she helps to stuff envelopes at a charity organization she works for. It makes me sad that all her dreams were stripped away, but happy that we still have her. She still "crashes" every once in awhile, and I try to catch her when she falls. Love you sweetie!
My son at 17 right after 9/11, came to me and said, “we have to do something.” For him that meant joining the Marines, and choosing infantry. Which the recruiter had said the numbers were very high for infantry. Just short by a year or so for his 20th year in the Marines, he lost his battle with ptsd. We found out afterward he had been seeking help the previous year, but they never official diagnosed him with sleep deprivation and ptsd, which he described, so no treatment was given. A few months after his passing this song began playing spontaneously, come to find out it was on his playlist. No one else knew of or ever heard the song play before. I believe he intended it for his family that he left behind. Please follow up and check up on loved ones, especially those who have fought for our freedom. Love you, Corey Lee
A beautiful soul named Jason gave me this song in a dark place in my life. We lost touch, I can’t find him. I check back on this song so often just to see if by some miracle he has commented looking for me. The last thing he said to me was “I’ll hold the line.” I hope and pray when he hears this he hears his angel because I hear mine. I’m still holding the line. It’s been so many years, but I won’t stop looking even if I only see him in this song.
This has to be one of the most beautiful songs I've heard. The lyrics, the melody, harmonies, & the singers voice so suits the song. I'm walking my dog in a beautiful place right now, evening sun is slowly going down, & it is on repeat, making a beautiful evening all round. I love the lighthouse tale too.
My deceased fiancé made a cd entitled "Songs That Remind Me Of You" this song was highlighted. He left for his tour in Afghanistan, sadly he passed away in a HH60 crash less than a month later. Did he know? Listen to the words...bone chilling to me. I miss you Mike! I will carry you in my heart ALWAYS!
Yep, my tear ducts still work. I am truly sorry for your loss. The words of this song prove just how much you meant to him. Keep his spirit alive and god bless.
I feel your pain I lost my fiancé in August n buried him on my birthday this song gets me everytime he was burned badly n it was just to much for him to handle...I miss you Kevin Gillman you'll always be my soulmate...see you on the other side my love!
tanya lapham I hope you have both found peace. I truly can't imagine what it would be like to lose someone in death, at one of the heights of love. I think of my daughter when I hear this song. She's still alive, but she is out of the house now. I still worry about her having to face the world. I know it can be cruel sometimes l.
I just had a beautiful dance with my daughter at her wedding to this. Ever since this came out, it has made me think of her growing up; which she has in amazing ways. Her husband is such a solid guy…I am a blessed father - thank you Jesus for answered prayers!
I love this song. When I was in my drug addiction it gave me hope. It felt like Jesus was speaking to me. I know he was. 15 years sober I know for a fact that God expresses his love in many different ways.
cogratulations.I have 11 years now and beautiful music and GOD keep me sober.I know it because im not strong enough to do it on my own. This song is so beautiful
This song always makes me think about my children and my role as a parent. My responsibility is to be the one on the ground holding that line for them.
Sir i will tell you having to bury my 16 yr old who killed on prom night. As a human the worse thing on this planet is to pick out a casket for your child. You do go on but its such a weight to carry the pain forever. Im so sorry. Life is good.
Loss of any loved one is extremely painful. But loss of a child is a whole different ball game. I lost a child, so I can sympathize with you. It takes great strength to keep living on without them. Music has been such a major part of my healing. Especially when it's a song as beautiful as this one. Best wishes to you sir.
This song is for my daughter as she is eighteen and leaving home to have many adventures. This song and "Find your Way Back Home" from the Tigger movie. :)
This song is for those that love someone who struggles with bipolar.Been married 30 years and Jesus has been with us and helped us stay together through all the highs and lows.Against all odds, He has helped us by His Grace and Mercy.
Mary you are never alone! There are many who struggle with bipolar and their spouses. A really good med is called Valproate. It helps a person with bipolar feel as normal as possible. 💕🎼💕
I fell in love with this song when it first came out because my son was battling drug addiction. It holds a very special place for a Mother who feels she will always be there for him.
A blessing on you and your son . May he heal from whatever it is needs healing and may he be able to live a normal life and have a beautiful life with you again , please god amen 😭💙
🥺🥺🥺 this is beautiful. As a son, myself... who has battled drug addiction... empathy like what you described is what will get us through those times. You're a great mom and I hope he comes back down and lives up to what you know he can achieve ❤️
I will keep you and your son in my prayers- truly. I am a 57 year old woman, who became addicted to narcotic pain meds 20+ years ago, when this song was recent. My husband tried so desperately to help me, but after a while he realized HE himself could not 'save' me. He told me he realized this now, but he will never leave me, no matter how hard things got, and if I ever need, or had to go,,, he would always be waiting for me. He heard this song back then and needed to share it with me. We sat on the edge of our bed, he held me and he cried. We both cried. It has been a long time since that nite and I GRATEFUL to a LOVING GOD and those who loved me, and never gave up on me. Please don't give up on your son,,, ALWAYS have HOPE. I have to play this song every now and now and then,,, I still CRY each and every time, but they are tears of joy, healing, and gratitude.... God Bless you. Tammy G.
Every dang time, I so miss music like this. I keep introducing this to my kids, my two year old loves it and dances all the time...just told my wife a little while ago that we have to pass this down to our generation or this type of music will be lost.
_ well said. I'm of the opinion that good music ,and this is, doesn't die, but finds a way to breathe beauty into the following years and this surely does . The ache for grace , spoken or sung to the one who is loved is timeless !
One of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. And as Chris pointed out in the concert last night, Huntsville, Alabama makes an appearance at about the 1 minute mark!
In my entire 15 year long journey of music, i have only once found a song as beautiful as this song. I've listened to rock, hard rock, classic, techno, dubstep, pop. But only once have i found a such beautiful song as this song. It IS this song.
This is a song for all the other halves of addicts. To the people that are sat in the side lines helping a troubled soul through their way through this world. People forget that it's not just the addicts that face a challenge, but also the partners if these people. They are true angels, they are like the camera men of the natural world, they do everything the host does..whilst holding a damn camera. We hold ourselves together whilst also trying to hold Someone so dear to us together at the same time. My respects, warm wishes and strength to those of you out there. We are warriors!
My son chose this for us to dance the son and mother dance at his wedding. I had never heard it before. Pretty song. I will always be here for him and I think he understands my diagnosis of breast cancer by his choice of this song. He has a good heart that son of mine, I am a proud mama.
People with diverse musical tastes are my favorite types of people. I can go from rap to death metal to electronic to Nickel Creek, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
I dedicated this song to my daughters today- I want them to know that while chasing their dreams, I will always be their safety net, their sounding board, their ultimate supporter- the first time I heard this song I knew it would always be meant for my girls.
Same here. I was a teenager raised by my grandparents. When my Nana passed, this song became a huge part of my grieving process. The beautiful, calming, relaxing melody paired with the softly sung amazing lyrics made me have an appreciation of music I'd never had before. And I could just feel her love in every note
This song helped me through it when my friend died in a car accident in 2008 - she left two beautiful children who look just like her. Now, it's taking me through the process of saying goodbye to my dying grandmother, and it plays all of my heartstrings so beautifully.
My family has always been huge fans of country & bluegrass music. I found Nickel Creek & introduced my family to them. My small family fell in love instantly. Almost a year ago, my cousin committed suicide & this song was played at his funeral. I lost it....Miss you Rob!
I'm a late-life convert to bluegrass, with maturity I can finally appreciate unenhanced singing and clean instrumentals. Nickel Creek is one of the finest. the Radman
OMG! WILL NEVER GET TIRED OF YOU GUYS. YOUR BLUEGRASS IS SOFT AND SO FULL OF HARMONY. YOUR MUSIC HAS TOUCHED ME IN SO MANY WAYS...PLEASE COME BACK! ; ( and Sarah,...if you were gravy and i was a biscut,..I WOULD SOP YOU UP!!!
John Hague has said exactly what the truth is! Anyone who doesn't like it is definitely not cool but scared of the truth. Boldness of the🕊 God we serve in our lives is the ticket to our very own restoration in our end.🦅
First time I danced my daughter to sleep by this song, I knew we would dance to this at her wedding. Well, we did this year and I cried like a baby when she started to sing it to me. “My greatest fear will be, that you will crash and burn, and I won’t feel your fire” what a great lyric. Love my baby girl!!
My husband proposed to me on Christmas Eve of 2008. I flew away to Guatemala less than a week later. He was terribly worried about me and wished I didn't have to go, but sent me away with this song and so much love. We danced to it as our wedding song a year later.
Whether you're into rock, metal, country, rap, hip hop, folk, opera, industrial, goth, pop... there's no way you can't not like this song. Incredible song by awesome musicians and lyricists!
What a gorgeous song. My daughter and I have been huge Nickel Creek fans for years. She' away at music school and this song says just how I feel. I miss her so much right now,
My younger brother introduced me to Nickel Creek years ago. He and I enjoyed listening to their music together. He passed from complications of AIDS in 2019. This song brings tears to eyes everytime I hear it.
I'm reading the comments as the song plays in the background and I can feel the emotion of those of you who lost someone or how this song has helped you through a tough time in your life. I can't help but try and attach a feeling, emotion or a trying time to this song. the song just feels so right.
My boyfriend proposed to me on Christmas Eve of 2008. I flew away to Guatemala less than a week later. He was terribly worried about me and wished I didn't have to go, but sent me away with this song and so much love. We danced to it as our wedding song a year later.
Thank you. Sincerely. This song carries a lot of weight. My mother got me into you guys at a young age. Of the music she showed me this song holds a special place in my heart.
This song is so BEAUTIFUL ! My mother passed away in 2001 and this song was playing on the radio a lot. The music and lyrics were so pure, so beautiful, so like my dear sweet Mother. I miss her terribly. Then my brother passed away in 2003 and I found the song "Pastures New" reminded me of him. The music is so bittersweet and sometimes it really hurts to listen........ I hope I get to be with them again someday. Our time together was so short ...... Surely this can't be all there is ....
For me, this song is about my 15 yr old daughter. She'll be traveling to Europe with People to People for 20 days in Summer 2010. I want her to have every adventure, opportunity and experience she can and know I'll always be right here if and when she needs me.
My favorite Nickel Creek song. We saw Punch Brothers at El Rey in Hollywood last Saturday. Great show, great crowd. I think that was Sean Watkins in the audience with us.
Im so happy Chris is taking up the mantel...I thought id never want to hear anyone but Garrison, but he has won me over. He is so dear and charming. And so gracious! Just watched his 30 min Bach...unreal.
I listened to these guys a ton in the early 2000s, I didn’t even realize they were still active until I saw an advertisement for them being with Kacey Musgraves in Orlando on December 2nd which I got my ticket to like 8 months ago. 🙌
I am so very sorry for your friend and your loss. My sister introduced me to this band during 911. They are awesome. Again, I am very sorry for your loss.
I post this song for my adult children all the time. They live all over this place... One with my grandchildren.. Bein a mom. Another in the army. And another who chosee to just sort of be... The prodical son. It means so much to be able to say this when they go thru triumphs. .but when its heartbreak and and Im at a loss of words and so far away. This is their lullyby. Music. Iur soundtracks for sure.
Can’t believe this song is over 20 years old now. I remember my mom always playing CMT in the morning when I got ready for school and I always remember this video playing. Definitely a big reminder of such fond memories
Have to say... my dad passed 8 yrs ago and he loved these songs, so now nickel creek is a part of memories from my dad. He use to say”Dani you look like her!” And we watch the videos together. ❤️
This is some of the nicest singing lead I've ever heard Thile do. Usually I've thought he's mainly a great harmony singer but here his lead singing is pretty darn beautiful
This song has nothing to do with people dying. It's a story of letting a loved one do what they feel they need to do, and being there for them when things don't go exactly as they plan, and loving them unconditionally. I'll be your solid ground, take every chance you dare, I'll still be there, when you come back down.
For all the lost souls, the little ones taken yesterday, may the angels lift you away and peace be yours for all time! The country mourns this tragedy and all thoughts should be with the victims and families.
This song was at my nannys funeral im only ten, I love this song so much when ever i come on to the Computure i listen to this wonderfull song, I wish she was still here
he opens her cage allowing her to fly high and follow her dreams...knowing, she may not return.....for her happiness is more important than he would ever hold her back from.... thank you, a friend named Cory ...for this gift
30 years since I heard this last. Hold close your loved ones. Thank you Nickel Creek- I feel so replenished when I hear your band- sweet ,sweet song🎶😎❤️
Got to give credit to my best friend heck and there entire family for turning me on to this band! there amazing I listen to rock hard rock jazz pop metal everything BUT have never been able to FIND a true good acoustic group I like! Every time I hear this group makes me think of my friend who I can consider to be like a BROTHER!!!!
I got the chills. if this were broadcasted on loudspeakers around the world, people would but aside their troubles and the world would know true peace for the briefest of moments.
2024 and still in love with such a masterpiece and such an underrated group. ☺️💕
Agree, they've been a fave of mine for years

God bless your Mothers heart. Your love for your daughter breaks me. Praying for your sweet girl.
What a wonderful mother. Wishing great peace to you, your daughter, and your entire family. ❤️

That's such an amazingly emotional line (no pun intended) I hope your children and you are thriving and well

THIS IS REAL MUSIC RIGHT HERE. Nothing short of a timeless masterpiece.
Agreed,,,,beautiful melody and lyrics.
The most underrated song of all time! Yes, that fiddle is off the charts.
Much agreed! The fiddle kills it. Would have won the gold fiddle from the devil if played in Georgia 😂
Played this song the day I buried my baby boy in 2001. Still kills me. But I listen to it from time to time. Never to forget. I love you Hunter Paul.

I heard in on the radio years back, and proceeded to fall in love with Nickel Creek. I have yet to find one of their songs I dislike
Oh mein Gott was für eine Erinnerung an schöne Radiozeiten!!!
My son is a pole vaulter and I have made this our song. Maybe we'll dance to it at his wedding some day. ❤
My younger brother introduced me to Nickel Creek years ago. He and I enjoyed listening to their music together. He passed from complications of AIDS in 2019. This song brings tears to eyes everytime I hear it.
Spent 25 years on the worst battlefields. Hardened and true. Letting go of my daughter to college and this song brought this warrior to tears.
2023 and still loving it. my high school days 😊
Same here. Me and my bestie since grade 4.
I love this song!!! I member hearing it back in 2001- and 21 years later- it still hits the same! ❤️
I have missed this song
My sister sent this to me the night before I ship out for the navy, absolutely amazing
I could listen to this on repeat all day. Thanks y'all.
absolutely.
im a 18 yrs old guy, and im not usually the one who cries, but this song puts a tear in me eye! ^^
My favorite Nickel Creek song.
We saw Punch Brothers at El Rey in Hollywood last Saturday.
Great show, great crowd.
I think that was Sean Watkins in the audience with us.
one of those amazing songs that sounds magical no matter how many times you hear it
this song gave me goosebumps. It kind of relates to my last son going out on his own, to make his own mistakes. Beautiful. Gotta have the album
This was my 'song' for my oldest daughter when she was in high school... .we danced to it at her wedding! :-) Perfection!
This was on American Idol last Sunday (2021). Reminds me of college. So great!
Thank you , 1000 times thank you. Truly , I feel, is this sacred union known as Nickel Creek, Blessed 🎚 Thank you
Im so happy Chris is taking up the mantel...I thought id never want to hear anyone but Garrison, but he has won me over. He is so dear and charming. And so gracious! Just watched his 30 min Bach...unreal.
The very best song for me to sing to my only daughter. It's a masterpiece.
What a great song.
This is some of the nicest singing lead I've ever heard Thile do. Usually I've thought he's mainly a great harmony singer but here his lead singing is pretty darn beautiful
*Criminally underrated & under appreciated* 🫶😻
This song has nothing to do with people dying. It's a story of letting a loved one do what they feel they need to do, and being there for them when things don't go exactly as they plan, and loving them unconditionally. I'll be your solid ground, take every chance you dare, I'll still be there, when you come back down.
Perfect song for my only child; he is turning 21 and I will be a grandmother in January. blessed. great song.
2020 and their music is still amazing.. #timeless
still amazing 2/2021 actually this whole album is good but this is my favorite
Still good in 2023
If you have ever been in an unwanted break-up, this is your ballad.
I first heard this song in 2002.I like this song very much and I bought their CD back to Thailand too.
Sanding my son off to college at UT Knoxville Saturday. This songs says all I want to say.
Ive loved this group since day one. Unique harmony ❤
Every time I hear this song it brings back memories. It's a beautifully written song and still love it
Melody, harmonies, guitar, mandolin and fiddle playing at their very best... a song that once heard can never be forgotten. Simply sublime.
Evan Bickerstaffe no doubt
For all the lost souls, the little ones taken yesterday, may the angels lift you away and peace be yours for all time! The country mourns this tragedy and all thoughts should be with the victims and families.
this song means a lot to me I have a brother who was murdered out of state and we listened to this slot now it has a new meaning to me. RIP bro
Discovered this band when they opened for Kacey Musgraves on her Deeper Well tour. Great music by this trio!
30 years since I heard this last.
Hold close your loved ones.
Thank you Nickel Creek- I feel so replenished when I hear your band- sweet ,sweet song🎶😎❤️
This song moves me in ways I couldn't possibly put into words I feel like God speaks directly to me through it!
