‪@stevensbeeco767‬ deals with some difficult queen introduction scenarios (AI Queens & Virgins), and Cory has gotten very good at it.
Small, well fed colonies that are hopelessly queenless are much more likely to accept the queen you give them, because they are not under food stress, and have no other option for a queen.

Wow. So much good detailed info. I'll need to come back and watch this again in a year or so when I'm more comfortable with the basics.

Thanks Nathan!! I bookmarked this one to come back to and re-listen. So much good info. Now I know how to requeen my big hives. Splits and nucs easy - big hives not so easy. It all makes sense when you guys explained it.

The nuc method for requeening is excellent. I've done that a number of times to requeen big hives, and Cory's right, it works nearly every single time. The nice side effect is the resulting new hive goes into high gear and will produce very well.
You can do it with relatively small nucs, 2 or 3 frames with open brood is all you need. I don't even cage the new queen on a nuc requeening. Just plop the nuc right down in the middle of the hive and walk away.
I've even done it where I go in, kill the old queen, drop the nuc in all in the same visit, and walk away. It's by far the superior method of requeening big hives.

The key as Cory said is queen pheromone and the e beta ocimene pheromone of eggs and newly hatched larvae.

Thanks for the passion and sharing these Interviews!! I have a question… The Virgin queens from Corey sound like a great idea, however; here in Southern California we have a lot of feral Africanized traits. When and if my hive spilt, and they make a new queen, she has to be replaced as the hive can be a little spicy…. How would this be any different with Cory’s queens? Thanks in advance!!

The virgins go out and mate with local drones, so if you’ve got AHB drones you’ll pick up those traits. It’s too cold where I live for AHB to be much of an issue.
