I got my 2001 Herman Miller Aeron from a dude selling them out of the back of a small hospital for $300. I got my dad a 2019 Herman Miller Aeron from this family who owned dozens of them for some reason for $400. Both from Craigslist. I don't think there's any other way to buy these chairs other than "refurbished."
You wanna know where they come from? Businesses go down and they sell their furniture for pennies because at that point having the furniture altogether is a very bad thing, forces you to pay extra months of rent on an office you're no longer using or expensive moving services. These guys buy them, refurbish them, and sell them for an honest profit. Much, much better than buying a garbage ass gamer chair for more than double.
I bought a refurbished Aeron in April and have been loving it. If you're thinking of getting one, look up what ones to avoid (e.g. some of the super old models have different tabs on the back of the armrests, so buying those means your chair is probably ancient). They come with different levels of arm adjustability / back support as well so make sure the model you buy has what you want good luck amigo
