Well Chanel always looks for "the woman" of the decade or generation, I think they just always choose a new face every decade because not only it gets somewhat boring to see the same face over and over again, but also to hire the newest, most wanted celebrity or model as the face of Chanel/no 5 because it'll bring a lot of new customers and publicity to the brand you know, like in the 60s they hired a lot of famous models like Jean shrimpton, ali mcgraw, young martha Stewart, then in the 70s they hired catherine deneuve to present no 5 as the perfume for the modern but still romantic and elegant woman, and then in the 80s carole bouquet was hired to present chanel as independent, flirtatious and sensual (for example in one of her ads for chanel she leaves her old husband to have fun with her younger lover),in the 90s they hired Vanessa paradis and estella warren to gives a sense of fantasy and mystique, then in the 2000s Nicole Kidman and audrey taotou was hired to bring some old Hollywood/celebrity glamour to the brand. While the ads nowadays is just some hyped up celebs screaming that you should be happy with yourself or just randomly dancing while laughing like a crazy person ( for example the newest prada paradoxe ad with emma watson), but yeah, I really miss the ads like this one because not only they're amazingly beautiful,but they're also made to serve a fantasy. that maybe, if you wear this perfume you'll get to feel like a movie star, who just wants to break free from your restraint life to live your life however you want or escape to a foreign or exotic land to fall in love with a mysterious stranger.
I still say Ewan McGregor would have been fantastic in this commercial...but this was soo beautiful. I always loved it, and can not wait to see Australia tomorrow!! Thanks for posting this!!

The music and art direction in terms of dresses and camera shot were spectacular. and is it me, or does this have a very Moulin Rouge! Vibe?? the whole love story - forbidden and when nicole said, "I love to dance!". lol. just an observation i made from Baz's work.
its totaly insane that they managed to use 42 millions on this film but the music is good and they hired nicole kidman on this film for 4,7 millions the film is aboute worth 233,333 dollars per second. so this is a wonderful film. Brava!
