This happens quite a lot, especially with old cemeteries when families and friends are no longer around. Its very sad.

This is unbelievable. How can this happen. Where are the headstones. Is nothing safe these days.
You assume once buried that's it, you're there forever. Well that's until someone wants the land.
    These places should be protected.
Thanks for sharing this one. 👍

The headstones were probably sold but I don't know who would want them, headstones are expensive these days.

    From a 2009 Guardian article :
Plans for the crematorium were approved by Ribble Valley borough council in 2009 despite opposition from Whalley parish council, locals and relatives of the deceased.
Someone at Ribble Valley borough council doesn't know the legislation and they need to be held acountable.

It is disgraceful, that a cemetery can even be considered, to be sold. It’s truly astounding. Thanks for the video, it just shows the greed of some humans & that sacredness is beyond their souls.
I read somewhere.. “The only lawful possessor of a corpse, is the earth”
May they all rest in perfect peace.

That’s why I am wary of green burial sites. Unless they are registered with a trust, it is basically a farmer with a field, and they can shut it when they like.

I really didn’t expect that, what a disgrace to the developers. More importantly, what are they going to build on it and who in their right mind is going to purchase whatever it maybe. So many unanswered questions from families and such a puzzling story. Great work Lee, really enjoyed that 💙

I can't remember if I mentioned it in the video but, it was a Crematorium and a carpark 😕

Found out last week via an ancestry website that my late Mother was an inpatient at Calderstones Hospital from the age of 18 in 1939. Not sure how long she spent there. She gave birth to myself and my Sister in 1962. Not sure why she was sent there. Our Mother died in 1977.

Ancestry website is very interesting, I love all that finding out things about family history 👍

@@GraveInterest I'm sure it is yes. I took advantage of the Two week free subscription. I will look at purchasing a full subscription very soon. I only found a limited amount of information about my late parents. In a way it's left me with more questions than answers. I imagine that's how it is for many people at first, until they dig a bit deeper.

Bit of an ancestry buff. Did a bit of research. All of the babies were born and died in Clitheroe Lancashire. The records don’t show mothers names etc in those years. It may have been a workhouse or a home for single mothers.

    • @GraveInterest

Yes it is near Clitheroe, I think it was an asylum before ww1

I would like to see the inside of the chapels. dont know why they built two separate chaples when they could have built one large on and shared it with the various groups Thats what the US military does, one chapel, everyone shares it. Sad that the place isnt cleaned up.

I tell you what is mysterious, I found all but 2 of the infants. The ones I did on google alone died in September 1939.

It's as though people don't want anyone to know of what happened here. Walking around that place made me feel so annoyed, upset, disgusted at what they tried to do.

  • @mortuaryartist4390

    They just seem so alone

    • @GraveInterest
      @GraveInterest  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes in the middle of nowhere with no headstones, grave markers or anything to show they are there. It really annoyed me to learn of this place, I had to visit.
