Awesome show! Italian prog is a major force! Le Orme is another great italian band that deserves a show! Congratulations goes to Pete and the guys!

Fucking legends! Love Banco. When I saw them at NEARfest, I had never heard a note by them first and I was crying like a dateless chick on prom night. That said, refusing to listen to music that is not sung in English reminds me of all the American tourists who travel around the world and eat McDonald's wherever they can find it. 1. Io Sono Nato Libero. 2. Darwin 3. Self-titled 4. ...Di Terra 5. Transiberiana tied with Come in un'Ultima Cena.

That show was amaaaaazing Luis. My friend too was crying during that concert. Looove the McDonald analogy. Prog on...

Even Francesco cried before the encore. He was really touched by the reaction of the crowd.

I finally got to see Banco at l.a. progfest 2000 in Bueno Park, Ca. I got a picture of the Francesco and myself. He was a very huggy guy.😁

Of the two big Italian bands, Banco and PFM. PFM is my favorite(absolutely LOVE that band), but Banco is a STRONG second.

    Banco:
    1. Io Sono Nato Libero
    2. Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso
    3. Darwin!
    4. Di Terra
    5. Banco (the first one I bought and have owned the longest. So I have a soft spot for it)
    Honorable Mention:
As In a Last Supper - I need to get the Italian version of this one.
Italian is such a beautiful language that it just sounds great with this music. Language has never been a barrier for me in music at all. My friend back in High School was a big time Loudness fan and he owned the live album they did in Japan... which is sung in Japanese. Not only did that not bother me, It also got me into Gustav Holst as they used "Mars" as the playback song before they came on to perform.

This band is one from a long list of many where the 'single album syndrome' applies - i.e. I've only heard/owned one album, but never got around to hearing the rest; Not out of dislike or disinterest, but because of a sheer busy music schedule (How can one really listen to everything around the globe?) Io Sono Nato Libero is the album from this band I know. Always adored it (and, yes, I love Di Giacomo's expressive, operatic vocals.)
    Great episode.

Thank you Pete, Ken and Rand for doing the rankings and expert insights. I am looking forward to the review. My top 5 Banco albums are 1. Darwin, 2. Io Sono Nato Libero, 3. Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - self titled, 4. …Di Terra and 5. Transibernia - 2019.

Always thanks to Pete and contributors on the episodes Sal. The thing is with language barrier bands is hard. Unlike a band like Santana where songs other then some over the years have had a mix of spanish and english. Fun whenever we chat about music.

Back in the '70s, when I was a 13 yo schoolboy teen just getting into prog - ELP/Crimson/Floyd/Van De Graff Generator etc - I touched upon some European prog from France, Germany, and Italy, such as Magma, Tangerine Dream and PFM, but never listened to Banco at the time. An interesting discussion and knowledgeable analysis of their music.

My first discovery to Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso is "Traccia II" which was featured off of Rhino's "Supernatural Fairy Tales: The Progressive Rock Era" box set.

The Professor of Prog isnt wrong - there's not very much separating those early 70's albums. The live album Ken talked about, Seguendo le Tracce is fantastic. Transiberiana was a great return and
interesting that a number of the classic Italian prog /symphonic rock bands from the 70's started producing absolute rubbish during the 80's and into the 90's but then coming back in the 2000s onwards went back to what they were good at.

    LOVE this band!
1- Di Terra (my desert island prog record with "Forgiving Eden" by A Triggering Myth)
    2- Io Sono Nato Libero
    3- Darwin
    4- Canto Di Primareva
    5- Transiberiana
P.S. : the Metamorphosis version on the self-titled album is the BEST.

Darwin is a genuine masterpiece. I urge everyone to try and find some good translation of the lyrics, you're missing a lot by not understanding them.

Like jkbaca41, I only had the Manticore 'Banco' album for a few years so have a very soft spot for it. The Italian versions were bought later (and I have nothing against the Italian vocals) and may well be superior but are less familiar to my ears. Banco is my favourite though perhaps not the best. Next come Lo Sono Nato Libero, Darwin, As in a Last Supper and de Gaia : Last Train to Lhasa (that's a gag by the way. Don't write in!) (Though it is a good album!)
