You're lucky he didn't have the frame of mind to set up a defensive combo. 10 combos in Tetris are really easy to defend in Puyo Puyo. 6 chains usually ensure they survive the attack and even then, most people who consistently throw out six chains will also be able to consistently throw out chains much higher than that anyways. I've 4-wided Puyo Puyo players with 18 + combos and they still hit me with a half screen's worth of damage.
