    Feels like there were at least 3 blown calls that went against Chicago there. I think there were two fouls that should have been upheld and then that one obviously 'down' throw.

    sad to see so many fouls (some with poor spirit) and multiple blown calls by the observers, really undermines the sport

      Is this the first competitive ultimate game you've ever seen? This was precisely normal for a competitive game.

      Definitely a foul. He crushed the offender, who was set and boxing out, in order to go straight over his back for the block. Bad observer ruling.

      American ultimate is a different animal than European ultimate. The sport is not the same as it was 10-20 years ago. Everyone is just better than before. Especially in the highly competitive US college scene, with monster O lines like Darkside, the culture has shifted to a more aggressive and "biddy" playstyle to be able to get the advantage. Like it or not I think this is here to stay. I think the issue with this final in particular was the boys in orange.

    • @DerDortDer
      @DerDortDer ปีที่แล้ว +3

      SOTG in a self governed competition was what set ultimate apart from other team sports. This game fell behind those standards in many ways.

    • @stephensilides5634
      @stephensilides5634 ปีที่แล้ว

      the problem isn't the bids themselves, it's that people feel entitled to make whatever bid they want and contest a foul instead of make a play with the knowledge that if they fuck it up they'll probably foul, and then uphold the foul. i've made that chasedown block play rowan tried tons of times but if i don't jump vertically and hit the disc on the way up and instead jump forward into the receiver it's gonna be a foul every time @@mikerodgers7535

    The US consistently showing anti examples of self control and SOTG. Sad that the ones who have represented Ultimate to the whole world for so long are ruining the game. Ultimate is supposed to be more than just a sport, it's supposed to be a way of becoming better humans building Emotional Intelligence. Sad to see immature boys like the kid at 4:15 and such horrible calls from the refs.

      i wouldn't go so far as to say we're ruining the game but unfortunately some egos have grown with the sport. thankfully college in the us is in my experience a different story. at least youth coaches are by and large setting good examples so hopefully the next generation won't be as chippy

      @@stephensilides5634 Been playing in the USA for 20+ years, and. . . We are not ruining it - we are simply failing to compete the right way decade after decade while most of the rest of the world appears to be competing with better spirit than we are and moving on. It is sad and disappointing to see the USA failing in this way. The awful problems associated with self-officiating have been around for decades - and only at high level competitions, as can be seen here and in many other places. We here in the USA invented this sport, and we should be leaders in SOTG, not using the rules opportunistically for the purpose of gaining competitive advantage. Are we ruining the game? Nope. Are we playing at high levels the way we should with great spirit? Also, nope. And even worse, HD video shows not only dangerous plays and bad calls, but bad SOTG too.

      the excessive spikes of the disc which seems to be accepted now a days and the acceptance of physicality to "evolve" in a different path.. at this point one wonders are we moving to a point where USA ultimate vs Rest of World ultimate.. essentially a different sport?... Granted.. I would say that its really limited to high level ultimate.. Had several players that play club/AUDL regularly come play a pretty decent level pickup get called out for their excessive physicality.. they immediately knew they were in the wrong and cut out the shenanigans..

    I think its time for refs. Plays are getting too contentious at this high a level. No one wants to lose no matter the cost, I think it'd be best for everyone if there were refs when it comes to this high a level. Also they need to be checking the tapes on those close of calls.

      Someone being ejected and having to leave the field for parts of each game was one of the most wild things I've ever seen in ultimate. I would be remiss if I didn't include it, and it's fallout, in the highlights.

      @@danieljohnson309 Doing something wrong? these highlights not only show the best plays but honestly are similar to how the NBA does their highlights of every game where they also show the story of the game. The plays are more meaningful when you see the context and whats at stake. the ejection was a major factor of the semis and the finals. it would be a disservice of anyone watching this recap to not know and see what was happening.
