  • Follow-up video (I'VE CHOSEN MY PEDALBOARD POWER SUPPLY): • New Gear Day and Unbox...
    For almost a decade now I have been powering my pedalboard with a trusty Dunlop DC Brick. However, as my pedalboard has grown and more power hungry pedals have come to the market, this power supply is no longer going to cut it.
    It's time to find a new, more powerful power supply with at least 11 outputs.

    The Fender Engine Room is another good option. It’s similar to the Strymon in that you can expand it later if you need to.

    Replaced my DC power brick with a Harley Benton Iso 12 Pro, 10 pedals on the set, including EVH 117 flanger, EHX oceans 12 and Seymour Catalina Chorus , 2 years gigging with it and.... it works just fine. Cannot say I notice any noise coming from the pedals, its actually cleaner than the DC Brick was. Dont know if its as clean as a Strymon Zuma, but honestly, it works just fine for 90 bucks.

  • @McLguitars
    @McLguitars 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The mooer isn't isolated. The same power supply is rebranded a dozen different ways. It's advertised as isolated but a simple multimeter open circuit test will show they all have a common ground. The walrus Phoenix is the way to go. The chocolate bar is good but too complicated with all the dip switches. For example, if you have the wampler tumnus and the dip switch isn't right or gets hit accidentally your pedal will literally catch on fire because the voltage multiplier inside the pedal will go haywire.

      I've seen a couple of power supplies that has one or two AC outputs to go alongside all of the DC outputs. You should look for one of those.

    As a novice it's a mind field when trying to figure out which power supply is best. Typically the expensive ones will do most everything you need. Mind you, I've looked at all the cheap versions from the Donner Dp1 and 2, Caline, etc. They all look and operate the same and are probably not truly isolated. I'm learning any company can say a word in it's description and it isn't true. It gets confusing. What seems obvious is just spend the money on a Vodoo or ISpot. I looked at the Joyo5 rechargeable power supply. Some say it's like all the other ones, not isolated. For someone like me only beginning to build a pedal board it can be overwhelming. I definitely need sound advice from experienced guitar players.

  • @ferenclucas2842
    @ferenclucas2842 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The cheapo power supplies use the term " isolated" loosely and are usually not isolated just have isolated circuit protection however the power is daisy chained internally. It's a dirty trick. You read the description and they omit that part just so long as the word isolated is in there

    I am running a Fender Engager Boost, a Source Audio True Spring, a Boss 63 Fender Reverb, an MXR Copy Cat, and a Fender TreVerb. The True Spring was giving me white noise in the line. I bought a Stryman Zuma R300 and no more noise. Perfect. Expensive but worth the money. My only regret was not buying the 9 outlet version. Nice informative video. I am in the same situation, looking for a stronger power supply, and two pedals are problematic here: Line6 M5 (250-500mA 9V AC) and the EHX POG 2 (160mA 9.6V). There isnt really a power supply out there that can run the Line6 M5, which is weird since so many people run the M5 on their boards. All the otehr pedals I could still run on my Rockboard Powerblock
