Yeah I've got to look at more of Ljubo's games: such a good player!

This video is in the Human Games series! While reading a biography of the great Viktor Kortchnoi, I came across a description of a stunning queen sacrifice that had been played about him by the equally great Yugoslavian player Ljubomir Ljubojevic. It was this game... and it didn't disappoint!

I like seeing some 1.e4 games here 😂 I know you're predominant a 1.d4 player, and all the Leela stuff with Semi-Slav and Queen's Gambit was very interesting, but I'd like to learn some good old French and 1.e4 e5 stuff from you and the engines as well 😊

😊I have some Leela videos on 1.e4 pending but just need the time to get them all together.....

What a very nice game! And your engine analysis is always such a pleasure to listen to (not to mention you have a good "podcast" voice). As an aside, I was going through my tactical problems in the book Forcing Chess Moves and stumbled upon the game Sadler vs Arakhamia-Grant... how much of a shocker was it to see 30...Qg5! come out onto the board? :D

Ugh! That was a horrible shocker! In all fairness, although I was kidding myself during the game, Keti was the one making all the running during the game, so she thoroughly deserved to win! But I very rarely missed tactics like that so it was really a nasty one!

Wonderful ! Extremely happy to see a game from the 1980s, featuring two heroes of mine on top 🥰 Not that I have anything against Janowski, Leonhardt or Stahlberg 😉
You passed very quickly over the moves Bf3 Ne5 Bxe4 dxe4 dxe5 (sorry about the missing move count). Analyzing “blind” I had to wonder what happens if Black plays Rb6+ Ka2 Qb5 instead of dxe4, to cut out the Qxb6 defence. A computer will contemptuously refute this try, I suppose with …Qb5 Bxd5+ Kf8 Qh6+ Ke8 Nd6+ (I haven’t seen anything else - is that correct ?)

Aaagh you're right I should have shown that: there is a really nice line in there. 30...Qb5+ 31.Bxd5+ Kf8 32.Qh6+ Ke8 33. Bc6+! Lovely interference. Black has to take with queen or rook because 33...Nxc6 allows 34.Nd6+! And if you take with queen or rook you no longer are threatening mate and White can do something like 34.Re1! Sorry about that and well-spotted!

      @@SiliconRoadChess many thanks Matthew - I confess I had completely missed 33. Bc6+ ! very nice

You can tell Im a french player by the fact that even seeing a devastating loss like this makes me want to play it (french players are addicts) 💀
