    Nice job on the modification Ian. Reducing the height of the ROPS was the right way to go.

    Much much better, safety can still be stylish. “Happy man on his tractor.” I agree! That’s one of my happiest places to be is on a tractor.

    Ian, to stop the belt slipping on your drill press, you can tension it by undoing the thumbscrew and pulling the motor back. A pry bar might be handy.
    Sorry it took so long but we've only just found you and Julie and are binge watching (and loving) your videos. The drill press tip comes from my husband, lol.

      Thank you - the unit is so cheap there is no more tension. I do need to upgrade but will wait for the workshop to be fitted out 😀 Thanks for watching and subscribing...means a lot. ♥️

      @@HomesteadingUncontained All of these drillpresses with belt drive have a hinge on the motor mount and swivel the motor back to put tension on the belt. There is a T-Shaped black screwhead on the left side in between the motor and the main power switch. Usually you would need to undo that black screw a little until the motor can swivel, then push the motor back (use something to wedge between the motor chassis and drill press stand. Then you tighten that black screw again and remove what ever you wedged in to push the motor back. Too much tension is not good, as the belt drive acts a bit like a "safety-clutch", so you don't overload the motor or break something if a drill bit bites hard into something. But if it slips too much that will wear out the belt, drive wheels and your nerves. 😉

    It may look like the rop is too high but I suspect that it is so so that if it were to roll, that the length prevents the tractor from rolling at all. Imagine you have your bucket up in the air and the tractor starts to roll to the side when the bucket and the top of the rop hit the ground they will become the pivot points. The shorter the rop the easier it will be for the tractor to keep rolling. No doubt there is an ideal point between length preventing rolling and length causing rolling by being top heavy.

      Totally understand. But I think this fabrication was for a series of tractors, I am not even sure there was any maths done. To clear the wheels and the fenders the mounting plates have to be high on this B1600D. So this elevates the height of the bolt on ROPS. I feel more stable with the lower profile and studies other ROBS on Kubotas and most are just above the driver's head.

    When you have an item with the arrow on it, indicating it is Government Property, and another arrow facing the point of the arrow it indicates that it has been disposed of, by means of a surplus stock auction and is therefore not stolen! Incidentally the old depictions of of the arrows on jailed convicts means the same!

    • @HomesteadingUncontained

      The added arrow is new to me - I knew they used to sell them down in aggies in Plymouth but I never bought any. I just ended up with a few odds and ends when I left the dockyard.

    great job on the rops looks a lot more normal as for being not able to alter the bar legally it did not even have one when you bought the tractor, what a joke what would happen if you fabricated your own i suppose thats illegal to, must be better than no rop at all i would have modify it the day i fitted it it looks good now well done ps you can now put a sun shade on it if you are allowed to by some strange law

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
      @HomesteadingUncontained  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Brian - it does feel better too. As you say, it was never meant to have a ROPS, so anything is better than nothing. Thanks for commenting and watching.

    Hi. I hope your chickens are laying well. There is a lot of talk in UK and USA at the moment about chickens not laying and mysterious fires breaking out at night killing the flocks. most people are putting the fact the chickens are not laying down to the suppliers are not putting protein in the feed and Nestle is the company mentioned trying to make more profit.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
      @HomesteadingUncontained  ปีที่แล้ว

      Our chickens are young at the moment (new batch) but after 6 months we are now getting the first eggs (it is also freezing temps here). Our feed is from the local cooperative, it seems OK plus they have full run of the garden and compost heap. The egg shells are like armour 🤣

      Bullshit!
      I saw two men with that attitude. The first one was a farmer squeezed in half, the second one was a wine-grower pinched by the posts for his wine.
      The first one died immediately, the socond could watch his rescuer for about half an hour before he died.
      Both lived in rangy enviroment.
      They rest in peace.

    Any plans for cows :) so much grass to eat ?

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
      @HomesteadingUncontained  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not us, but we let the farmers cows in and they have munched it down - then he came in with his machinery and gave it a good topping and rake including the horrid brambles we have at the top. So it all looks good again.

      @@HomesteadingUncontained :) Every where I see nice grass I imadgine happy cows :) my deformaty. How is the topper ? Don't have one of those but perhaps good idea to go over after cows/horses have only partyically grazzed, must look into it. Enjoy the summer.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
      @HomesteadingUncontained  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This land was awful when we first arrived and too much for one horse. It took us 10 years to persuade the farmer to put his cows on it. And since then the gras has come on so well and the farmer is always helping us out with it (he has much bigger machinery than I do).

      @@HomesteadingUncontained Interesting to hear, my experience and what I've studied, that the cows on the grass, really improve it, lots of little manure piles with their own eco system spread out over the grass thought out the active season really helps to bring the soil alive.

    Do you have a seatbelt on the tractor? When no ROPS is present, seat belts are not recommended. However, with a ROPS, you should have a seatbelt.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
      @HomesteadingUncontained  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am still searching for where to attach it correctly. The mini digger was easy as it had anchor points but the kubota is a little more difficult, so it will be a project in itself to fabricate the anchor points to the chassis.

    Hi, Love your project. Just a little piece info you may be interested in. Here in the UK you are not legally allowed to drill, weld or alter a ROPS cab or frame unless you have it tested again afterwards.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
      @HomesteadingUncontained  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I thought that when I was "adjusting it" but checking the welds, the newer version looks a lot more sturdy than the older. I added the homologation plate back ...... "nothing to see here" 😉

      @@HomesteadingUncontained I'm lucky, if I were to .modify'. I live in Poland, and Poland has a wonderful way of dealing with EU law. They write it all up in their books, the bits they like, they use.....but the bits they do not like...they simply ignore.....in that no one is ever likely to check my tractor........It's a bit like the MOT.....all the relevant part are in the law books.....but they just do not fund anyone to check what is done during the test....So the test on my car is. Lights/Brakes/balljoints and sometimes the horn. takes 5 mins. costs a third of the MOT in UK costs. My Unimog is registered as a classic....(trust me, my yearly going over is more strict than any MOT).

    • @topspeed250k5
      @topspeed250k5 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Clearly a situation where the law is an ass. It's legal to leave the too-high, destabilising, dangerous bar as it is. It was modified responsibly, using a competent welder with correct equipment, and is safer. The law makes no allowance for intelligence. Good job Ian.
