Navigating social skills can be a unique journey for individuals with autism (ASD). Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often present challenges in understanding and participating in social interactions. These challenges can encompass difficulties in reading social cues, engaging in reciprocal conversations, recognising emotions, and interpreting nonverbal communication.
However, it's important to note that individuals with ASD also have strengths and capabilities in social interactions. With proper support, customised quality interventions, and a nurturing environment, they can develop essential social skills that enhance their ability to connect with others and foster meaningful relationships.
Throughout this seminar, our speakers will explore strategies and programs for teaching individuals with ASD social skills based on the Autism Partnership Method (APM). APM is a unique Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) approach developed by clinicians at AP with over 30 years of experience. Our discussions will span prevalent socialising challenges faced by individuals with ASD, dispelling myths about autism and social skills, and sharing critical skills for socialisation.
Furthermore, we'll explore the intricate dimensions of social skills taxonomy, encompassing elements like social awareness, social interaction, social learning, social relatedness, and social communication. Last but certainly not least, we will provide strategies and methods for teaching these essential skills to individuals with ASD within a group setting.
