I recently purchased a used MZ2 preamp , which is their entry level unit. I noticed a bigger soundstage as soon as i started listening. I emailed them with some questions and included my cell number. One of their reps. called me soon after to welcome me to the LTA family , even though it was an older used unit. He explained some of the features about the unit, and helped me with the purchase of some extra tubes. He told me to call anytime i have a question regarding their products. They are really costumer oriented.
Great video. Love the craftsmanship and the sound of the somewhat similar Zotl 40 plus amps driving my 3.7i Maggies. I got one about a year ago and added a second late spring. We recently moved to the Outer Banks and have a smaller cottage and smaller room upstairs compared to the larger basement back in Colorado. My wife has heard the 3.7i with three different amp combinations, Arc, CJ, and PS Audio BHK monos, at the old house. Recently she sat down to listen to the mono LTAs and after about 5-10 minutes said “your stereo sounds better here than in Colorado.” Her first comment ever on the stereo’s sound. Big thank you to Nicholas for his help with matching the new amp to the original. Amazing!
So it's not actually transformer-less, it just has a high frequency transformers "impedance converters". Interesting design, I can imagine the dynamics and resolution are great with such high voltages.
Futterman received His patent in 1956. Bruce Rozenblitz received His patent in 1996. I own a pair of TS, T-16 monoblocs that drive 4 Ohm Loudspeakers and the Russian 6 C19pi, valves have lasted 15 years without replacement, with each channel outputting less than 200 Watts of heat, running Class AB. The tubes, from Tubes-store in Russia cost $2.05 each, delivered. Also own the Transcendent Sound, Minibeast, a Single Ended, Class A1, OTL employing EL 509's from JJ Electronics. The 509's quite a bit more expensive though. But, on the original tubes, yet I wouldn't use this amp on anything less than 8 Ohms as the power output is 4 Watts at stated Impedance. Not all OTLs are the same. Not to take away anything from Mr Berning and His rather ingenious approach to OTLs.
I imagine that this amp is full of microprocessors .. In 20 years this programmed chips will probably be bad and no way to get the code ..I would recomend to include spare chips inside in some antistatic box .or container
Why would you imagine that? We use a single microprocessor in the digital control system, which is used to enable and control certain features like balance control, gain adjustment, etc. You can see details of this here: th-cam.com/video/NNajUNdh8HQ/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared If you'd like to learn more about the amplifier technology we use, which doesn't use any microprocessors, I recommend this page at David Berning's website: davidberning.com/technology

Now that the Hifi Podcast appears to be on permanent hiatus, this is the type of content we need. Thanks for the great explanation.
Oh man. I didn’t know that. I love that podcast. Glad we could help fill the hifi tech void for you. ~Nicholas

Very informative. I have an old mz2 but learned a lot from this talk.
So glad you found it useful!
