Theme of the Week: June 7, 2013
The main theme for "Iron Man 3" was the first that Brian wrote. He would constantly try others, but continue going back to this one theme. For the first post-Avengers movie the creative team wanted to go in a different direction, musically.
"The vibe was to be more like Raiders of the Lost Ark and things like that where you have a really hum-able theme," said Brian, "and there was a change in Tony Stark in the sense that now there's so much more at stake in this post-Avengers world. Like we're under threat from not only domestic terror and that kind of thing, but there's aliens involved because of the Avengers and we have other worldly threats."
Thus, Iron Man's new theme was modified to be more orchestral, less electronic and extremely memorable. Much of the AC/DC callbacks were dropped in favor of portraying Stark as a changed man. He wasn't having a lot of "fun" in this movie and the music had to reflect his darker story arc and higher stakes.
The resulting melody is arguably the strongest of the Iron Man movies and the most memorable-- Something easily ties Stark back in with The Avengers.

Those metal clink sounds just gives me goosebumps. Just perfect.
I'm almost certain they're meant to represent Stark's hammer blows when building the Mk. 1 in the cave.

Iron Man already got theme that he deserved. It's the main theme from 90's cartoon and score from the animated movie from 2007 done by Guy Michelmore. Brian Tyler really sucked with his score. But that's not his problem. It's always hard to make good score for a shit movie.
Tyler’s theme is more pleasant to listen to, but Djawadi’s theme fits the character better.

I loved all the Iron Man films, both The Avengers films, and Tony Stark's role in Captain America: Civil War. Tony Stark is an excellent character and Robert Downey Jr. does a magnificent job bringing that character to life.

The "blueberry?" line in Avengers was completely improvised with Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans responding in character (Mark wordlessly taking a handful, Chris saying "no thanks" in an annoyed tone)
The shwarma line was also improvised, inspiring the directors to add an extra after-credits scene

I've been listening to this ever since I saw Endgame. Love it more than 3000, as it is the best theme period. In my opinion.

of all the themes from the MCU, this is the pinnacle. And its no coincidence that it belongs to the best.
The metal clink sounds from Iron Man 1 are such a nice touch I love it. From Mark 1 in a cave to House Party Protocol. That's just how Tony is.
When people ask how many marvel movie themes I remember, I say 5, then they specify MCU themes, and I say 2:

This theme is just so memorable, too bad nobody does because of the "Comic Book Fans Vs The Mandarin" situation.
Iron Man 3 was honestly pretty decent besides Arch Killian being the villian. I could care less about the Mandarin thing but Arch Killian was such a weak villian. Doesn't matter as the movie is pretty decent and the theme is definetly the best part of the movie

This is the most epic theme song I've ever heard. Not even the Guardians of the Galaxy theme compares to it!

Not gonna lie, this is the best thing of only a handful of good things about this film. Cannot fault the score. It's EPIC!!!

Have you seen the new Civil War theme? When Cap and Bucky beating up Iron Man, imagine him laying in the ground defeated... Then The suit opens and there's no one there. Then Cap and Bucky hear a noise outside... They come and see a army of suits coming with Tony in the Veronica leading them. Thats the time the theme 5:50 kicks in... That would be SO EPIC!

This music is the definitive music of Tony Stark and Iron Man. The first one had a good score, but I felt like it still didn't quite capture the perfect portrayal of Iron Man, but Iron Man 3 score did it for me. The iron Man theme here to me is THE Iron Man theme, nothing could ever be a better iron man theme. Can You Dig It captures the character of Tony Stark and makes you think of the previous Iron Man films and how far he has come. Thanks Brian Tyler!

@@nitny20 I cant explain "lonely" for Iron Man 3 because I haven't seen it, but I can damn well explain his loneliness in Captain America: Civil War.
Him and Pepper ended up putting their relationship on hold, leaving Tony by himself. On top of that, the Civil War broke out, Rhodey was injured, Natasha turned sides, and he didnt really know the others too well. Then he had his ass handed to him in Siberia (I think thats where it is).
That's what I think, anyway. Sometimes, he had to fight alone. Mentally, he was fighting alone. His severe PTSD (From when he flew through the wormhole in the Avenger's) affected him alot, and nobody knew how to deal with it. He was alone in that regard too.
Kay the UwU I can agree with that. The only part I can think of when Tony was “alone” in Iron Man 3 is when he crash landed in Tennessee after his house got destroyed. During that part is when the sad part of this song plays. Idk honestly

Yeah man. My favorite sandwich is actually using some carbon steel for that smoky taste, some nice soft copper buns for a airy feel, aluminum lettuce, zinc cheese, nickel pickles, lead onions, and slathered with my favorite mercury mayonnaise sauce.

The thing I like about this piece is that unlike the others, it's quieter, less cocky in a way. This piece really shows the maturing of Tony Stark and his goals for mankind

i have watched Iron Man 3 about 30 times no joke and i am trying to make an arc reactor that functions the same as tony's and i believe that I can if u guys believe as well like my comment i would appreciate it and i am a nerd with phd in physics and mechanical engineering and computer software and i hope that my efforts actually pay off one day and i can make one of the biggest break throughs in technology and this music motivates me more to try harder and one day you all will see a flying iron man suit and i will be on the covers of newspapers and on tv news and i will try my best to help this world ty all for your support

I think the main arguments are that they don't use character themes consistently across movies... so even though the music is actually pretty good, it doesn't get drilled into your head the same way as with other franchises (like LOTR). But in the more recent films, they definitely draw on the previously-established themes more. It's starting to become a more cohesive universe, in terms of music. Hoping they revisit this theme for Iron Man!

As someone who never read the comics and didn't have any Mandarin expectations... I enjoyed the shit out of Iron Man 3. Ben Kingsley was a definite highlight. And a de-powered Tony making awesome McGuyver weapons from a Home Depot haul will always be one of my favorite MCU moments.
