    I've watched this video so many times. The day you posted this I had decided not to get a Glowforge, then I turn this video on minutes later. That's a long drawn-out response to say, thanks for influencing me to get a Glowforge. It's been so much fun. I can't wait to see what else you do with it. Used the link so thanks for that discount too.

    First off, great video. Very educational and enjoyable to watch. This was the first time I have seen your channel and ever heard of or seen a Glowforge laser printer. As a fellow artist I agree that It definitely is super cool, but I can't help but think after pricing a Glowforge Pro model which is just around $ 6k with tax even with a $500 discount plus $239 per year for a premium membership and whatever they charge for each piece of wood or chosen material, that you could achieve similar results with like $20 or so worth of materials. If after you come up with your own design in Procreate and print it out at the precise size needed, used some kind of carbon paper or transfer paper of some kind (maybe there is some new kind of high tech version is out now), and you traced over the image onto your chosen piece of wood you could then go over the lines with marker, paint it to however you like, then use an inexpensive wood burning kit to slowly and carefully burn through the wood outside the outline of the design. I'm sure there are artists out there far more experienced and knowledgeable than I who could recommend much better tools, methods and creative ways to achieve what I am talking about, but there has to be a much, much more affordable option to getting similar results to what you did without the huge expense of a mammoth sized machine like the Glowforge and the added expense of all the extras you would need to purchase along with it. I mean does it even save you that much time considering you have to upload/download the files and it takes at least an hour to print it out? Just my 2 cents.

    You’ve been really helpful when it comes to the business of art - are you planning on doing a more in-depth look at how this paid for itself? Do you think it would be possible to use print-on-demand options to begin with to soften the blow of the initial investment while also justifying it?
    Thanks for another awesome video.

    • @BeeJayDeL
      @BeeJayDeL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! I won’t be doing an in-depth look at my business approach to using the Glowforge- I offer some very niche products that took a lot of time and effort to research and design. People are too quick to copy and steal, so I can’t just put it out there in a video. Approaching it with a print on demand outlook is a good idea- combining that with offering personalized options is even better. 😉

    • @BeeJayDeL
      @BeeJayDeL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest, I can see it being user error 9 times out of 10. I kid you not, there isn’t a single day that goes by that I don’t answer an email from someone who has bought one of my brush packs saying the download link doesn’t work, the file is bad, there are files missing, the files won’t open, etc. People just don’t take the time to read or watch videos to understand how to do something (and that’s with a digital file.) Add a piece of machinery into the equation? I cringe at thinking of people hopping into one of these machines if they are that type of person. There is a lot that can go wrong…but that shouldn’t happen if you pay attention and learn what to do/ what not to do. If a machine does fail due to user error, I doubt those people are going to publicly admit it in most cases too (taking responsibility means having to acknowledge you screwed up…and means Glowforge not covering the repair, lol!) Just my two cents 😉

    WOW, ‘Proprietary materials’, premium membership and overprized products…. I sincerely hope ppl know theres plenty of high quality open source and/or affordable alternatives to these greedy cash-grabbing companies.

    • @BeeJayDeL
      @BeeJayDeL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Proprietary materials that aren’t required….premium membership which isn’t required. Both are a time saving convenience. I have a friend that saved money with an “affordable” alternative…spent more in time trying learn how to successfully use it and more in money on wasted materials than if she would have bought a Glowforge (which she ended up doing.) You highly underestimate ease of use and what it can do to someone’s bottom line. 😉

    There's no such thing as a 3D laser printer. It's a laser engraver. Engravers don't lay down ink on wood/acrylic. They engrave.

    Pretty lame you need internet access to use and a premium subscription to do a basic function like outline.

  • @ti3is980

    Based on everything you said I don't think it's worth it, the company is not providing you everything even with premium.. I think that we as humans are accepting to easily stuff like these, the cost of the machine is tens of thousands of dollars + if you want something extra you have to pay extra + you have some extra tools so that extra is going to make your job easier BUT you have to pay extra for that and that is the problem with us , we are ok with that and we shouldn't be, that extra should be included when purchasing that pro version, all the tools should be included, basically you are getting nothing with that pro version bcoz you can't do some things if you don't have premium

    • @BeeJayDeL
      @BeeJayDeL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the case at all- you misquoted price greatly…everything you need is included. Pro model is more due to the hardware of the machine. Premium doesn’t give you any extra machine-based features…solely software based that relies on GF’s servers.

    Or better yet: transfer your sketch with transfer paper from a piece of paper you printed out, and draw directly on your wood panel. There, I saved you thousands of dollars. What a complete waste of money your 3D printer is. I bet you’re sponsored by them.

    • @BeeJayDeL

      @@BeeJayDeL I never said it’s the same thing, I said it would save you thousands of dollars if you did it my way. The price tag of the printer doesn’t justify the outcome at all. Do what you will of course. Some people will buy anything without thinking about it. It’s like buying sand in the Sahara desert.
