I am a Sociology major at Clayton State University in Atlanta Georgia. As a baby boomer returning to school, I cannot imagine growing up with the media bombardment that people are subject to in 2014. Your video is a supplement to my text. Enjoyed your concise examples of agents of socialization. Thank you
I found your lecture while looking for information of Primary Agents of Socialization. I am a Sociology 1301 student and so have a lot to learn. Your video / lecture was very helpful and SOOO much better than reading my on-line professors power-point presentation. THANK YOU !!
Thanks for this video. I'm studying Social Work and our books don't have a word on the definition of socialisation. So this video was extremely helpful!
About that "not physical force" thing? It doesn't work on all kids. Grounding mine did no good. They were either out the window or sneaking out the door. Mine were rough necks, the only thing that saved me from being an abused mother is that I was able to show them who the Alpha really was. The never got more than 3 swats for regular misbehavior but when they got to be teens it was a battle to see who ran the house. I was a single mother and they were always in trouble.
Yes, Rafiq, you are correct! The education system (the institution of education) in general is a prominent agent of socialization. This includes everything about the system of education--books, what you learn directly from teachers, and what you indirectly learn from teachers and peers all play a role in the socialization process.
Thanks so much for this post. It has helped me to understand the agents of socialization . However, I think you are speaking too close to the microphone so it makes listening very difficult.
