As a current adult who was raised by parents that were even stricter than this I can promise treating your kids this way is not doing you any favors. Kids with parents like this are sneaky, become great liars, and in the end they end up doing exactly what you told them not to do, and for some they get rebellious and go head first off the deep end. Don’t do this to your kids. Boundaries are ok, but discuss the WHY instead of expecting blind adherence.
YES! If my parents explained the why to me instead of forbidding things and then degrading me I wouldn't have tried half the "substances" I have. I was one of the types of kids that ended up jumping off the deep end and for my family personally the lines between being strict and abusive was very very thin.
Ya I was raised with extremely strict parents. The thing that they got right was raising us away from society. We lived way out in the woods and lived off the land with no electronics. Even my parents did not have phones until we where older. They are more leanient now that we are adults because they knew they did their best and they love who each one of us are even if we do not follow their teachings now

Yes! Yes! Yes! This is *exactly* what some parents need to learn, especially the explaining part! Kids and teens are so much more likely to listen if you *explain why* they shouldn't do it. There's always that chance they won't listen even after explaining but knowing why they shouldn't do something and understanding what consequences could come from doing that something makes them a hell of a lot less likely to do stupid stuff.
I did something different. I had a mom and dad like this and just became uncontrollable around 16.. pretty much told them to F off and did whatever I wanted. Eventually, they accepted it and as I got older, I created healthier boundaries they either had to deal with or I stopped coming around. They’re wonderful grandparents but just weren’t the best parents.
You'd be correct. I had to block my Narcissistic mother, and my daughter barely has anything to do with her now at all. The rest of her family is figuring out what kind of person she is too. I love her but not her illness (and that's what narcissism is) and for my own mental health and safety, can't be around her.

It also makes their kid get really good at lying. And when the kid is finally an adult, solid chance they won't tell their parents much because they don't trust the parent not to lecture them.
My parents were like this exactly except they kept me stuck in my room. Only allowed within the family, dating wasn't allowed, abuse was normal and so was blind obedience. I hate my parents but love them. It's a twisted issue, I struggle with my relationships, my personal life. My parents did a wonderful job of destroying me as I got older. I'm still young sure but I thought everything I went through was normal. I struggle still and would love help cause currently I'm still struggling and with no money.
Idk my daughter wanted to wear extremely revealing clothing, and she was only 12. She ended up asking me why I didn't let her wear the clothes that her friends wear. Once, I told her what had happened to me and what he told me when he did it she understood. She's allowed to wear whatever she wants at home where she's safe. People say the clothes don't matter, but they do. I was literally targeted for what I wore, and I never wore clothes like that again. If I can prevent my daughter from going through that, I will.

I chose to talk to my kids about why I do things the way I do, and usually, they understand. My dad was the same, keeping me from going out. He was trying to protect me. My aunt was also SA. When he found out what happened to me, he almost caught charges for hurting the guy. He tried so hard to protect me, but sometimes the world isn't kind. I saw the way he treated me as sniffling and overbearing. It wasn't until later after having kids and going to therapy for my own trauma that I realized it may not have been the right way to handle things but he really had my best intrest in the end. Some parents are controlling for no reason, but I personally think/hope the majority are just overprotective and don't know how to handle it properly.
Or kids that do stupid shit to themselves cuz their only reaction to finding out was the parent yelling at the kid. Taking away their stuff for months unless they "showed them their scars" and then asking the kid if it was the parents fault and making it all about them instead of asking why they did it to themselves. As a product of a strict mom, I can say college was the best time in my whole life, I had so much fun actually I got kicked out and only lasted one semester because I just wanted to have fun since I never got too before. I did drugs had sex with random people and partied so hard I almost died. Let your kids be free and raise them to keep themselves safe when you won’t be there.

No friends, mainly because people didn't want to hang around someone so uptight. I grew a backbone eventually, and fought back. I rebelled. But, there is a price to pay with this freedom. Danger. Going out and partying alone in full nightclubs has almost costed my safety numerous times. Parents, please take it easy on your kids. Don't push your high expectations and strict rules upon them like that. Yes, it may be out of love, but more often than not, you're going to end up pushing them away.

i was raised in a REALLY strict household. Good news is I'm a shut in introvert gamer so not going outside wasn't that bad as I think it would be, and I have 3 friends. But then, I'll always have trauma, trauma of getting even 70 cuz in my collage mid semester exam i got 70 in math but the rest are 85-100 and my mom is dissapoted. Then, I got 85 in my math collage final semester exam and the rest is 90+ and my mom just say your cousin did better so u can be better. At that moment no matter what I did, I'll always be a dissapointment, ever since I'm little I did all my best to do what she says but I end of failing it like not playing my phone back in middle until 8, I played until 10, I lied and got found out I lied then I got hitted. I'm so glad that I was raised realistically. My father wasn't strict, but he was realistic. When I was 16 and had a boyfriend he said "if you get pregnant, you're not living here!" That was the best form of birth control. When I was 18 I started dating one of my brother's friends, and my dad went over to his house and said "If I get grandchildren sooner than later, I won't be happy." Then hands him a box of condoms.😂

The boy only stared in alow cut top but she had on a sweatshirt around the counselor. If there was some way to cover underneath the top in-between the breasts then I'd have no issue with my kids wearing it.

A while back, at school, a kid in my class was arguing with a teacher about being strict. He was actually saying really good things, like things that are actually true and make sense. He was saying things like "kids who grow up with strict parents are more sneaky, but kids who grow up with more freedom are less sneaky and more behaved." It's so frickin true. I grew up with a strict dad and a chill mom. My dad grew up with freedom, and my mom grew up in a super strict household. I grew up not trusting my parents, my dad. I grew up scared of him, and i still am. I always have to make sure my siblings are being good so they don't tick off my dad. But with my mom i can trust her way more. I tell her things and talk about things i wouldn't with my dad. I trust her way more. A good example of that is their driving. I've never been in a car crash with my dad but I'm still scared to be in the car with him, meanwhile I've been in 2 car crashes with my mom and multiple fast switches and yet i trust her more. And all the crashes weren't even her fault really. I love both my parents but some things are just different. Treat your kids with respect and kindly. Don't make your kids afraid of you, don't give them the opportunity to be sneaky because of your unfair behavior.

Yo.. I’m getting really bad flashbacks to my Adopted Mom and her family. They would always do this to me, telling me that I was being inappropriate or attention seeking. They would say that I made their family look bad and that I wanted to dress the way I did because all I cared abt was boys and se*. (Mind you now they were doing this since I was 7). I was never kissed until I graduated high school, I never went to a party, I was bullied and had no friends, I never did anything bad and still got beaten and in trouble constantly. You know what happened? I moved out at 17, and by the time I was 21, I was a drug addict. I didn’t have the normal reasonable freedoms in high school, so when I finally had freedom, I went crazy. If you do this as a parent, you’re a terrible person.
The problem I have with parents telling their daughters to cover up is that it's taking away accountability from the predators. Most of the time parents particularly mums want their daughters to cover up so that older men don't get attracted to them, what they fail to realise by doing this they're destroying their daughters self esteem and are actually making them more vulnerable to predators, if they don't feel safe enough to say no to you and you're their parents wtf makes you think that they'll feel safe enough to say no to a complete stranger who will actually hurt them if they say no. Not all of us I want my daughters covered up because I am teaching them to have self respect and morals. Also that they have more than just their bodies to offer to someone. @@Zoeiscoolerthanyou I did, but the top part is what I'd have a problem with, my daughter is already dealing with being treated differently by boys and even her counselor at school, not her fault at all but you can only control you not others or how they treat you- though if all they do is stare at your chest you should cut them out. The boy only stared in alow cut top but she had on a sweatshirt around the counselor.
If there was some way to cover underneath the top in-between the breasts then I'd have no issue with my kids wearing it.
Agreed, though if they found a way to cover the area between the boobs I have no issue, even if the covering was under the dress and only covered the lower to mid part of the breastbone
this is how my mom treats me…people always say things like “why r u so rebellious” or “your mom is doing it out of love” I hate when they say this because they will never know the feeling of having to listen for my moms foot steps and having to hide my diary. life truly sucks with parents like this

A while back, at school, a kid in my class was arguing with a teacher about being strict. He was actually saying really good things, like things that are actually true and make sense. He was saying things like "kids who grow up with strict parents are more sneaky, but kids who grow up with more freedom are less sneaky and more behaved." It's so frickin true. I grew up with a strict dad and a chill mom. My dad grew up with freedom, and my mom grew up in a super strict household. I grew up not trusting my parents, my dad. I grew up scared of him, and i still am. I always have to make sure my siblings are being good so they don't tick off my dad. But with my mom i can trust her way more. I tell her things and talk about things i wouldn't with my dad. I trust her way more. A good example of that is their driving. I've never been in a car crash with my dad but I'm still scared to be in the car with him, meanwhile I've been in 2 car crashes with my mom and multiple fast switches and yet i trust her more. And all the crashes weren't even her fault really. I love both my parents but some things are just different. Treat your kids with respect and kindly. Don't make your kids afraid of you, don't give them the opportunity to be sneaky because of your unfair behavior.

She bought the costume with her own money, if she’s old enough to have a job, she’s old enough to make her own decisions about what she wears. Yo.. I’m getting really bad flashbacks to my Adopted Mom and her family. They would always do this to me, telling me that I was being inappropriate or attention seeking. They would say that I made their family look bad and that I wanted to dress the way I did because all I cared abt was boys and se*. (Mind you now they were doing this since I was 7). They made me grow up to be very self conscious of my body and confused of right and wrong. That vid just hit me weird. Thank you for creating this, and I hope this spreads awareness of toxic parenting and how it affects your child. 😢
I want to know what her relationship with her mother is as an adult. I feel like these stories are based on actual experiences she had. As a daughter and a mother I can’t imagine putting one of my daughters through anything like this.

I had a strict, violent, abusive, catholic, conservative father. I was never kissed until I graduated high school, I never went to a party, I was bullied and had no friends, I never did anything bad and still got beaten and in trouble constantly. You know what happened? I moved out at 17, and by the time I was 21, I was a drug addict. I didn’t have the normal reasonable freedoms in high school, so when I finally had freedom, I went crazy. If you do this as a parent, you’re a terrible person.
The problem I have with parents telling their daughters to cover up is that it's taking away accountability from the predators. Most of the time parents particularly mums want their daughters to cover up so that older men don't get attracted to them, what they fail to realise by doing this they're destroying their daughters self esteem and are actually making them more vulnerable to predators, if they don't feel safe enough to say no to you and you're their parents wtf makes you think that they'll feel safe enough to say no to a complete stranger who will actually hurt them if they say no. Stop being idiots parents.
Not all of us I want my daughters covered up because I am teaching them to have self respect and morals. Also that they have more than just their bodies to offer to someone. The only women who dress like that are usually stupid, with no formal education maybe even high school drop outs and not so rare also single moms who have nothing to offer a man other than her body.

this 'parenting' is how my parents raised an extremely stubborn and sneaky child. at about 10 years old i had enough of my parents being overly strict and because more sneaky and would refuse to listen to them more often. i also got a lot better at arguing my point correctly.

This brings me back to elementary school. Every single Halloween my siblings and I were the ONLY kids who didn’t have a costume. Today as a 30yo adult I still haven’t really dressed up for Halloween the way I wanted to growing up.
