Great video! I learned a lot. I've recently began researching about the Jazz kissaten and have been incredibly intrigued about the history. It inspired me to start my own vinyl-listening events in rural central California. I would love to visit Japan and experience the kissaten first-hand.
29:04 that is the La Jetee bar in tokyo on the left! The owner is Chris Marker's fan and Chris Marker actually visited it. Wim Wanders met Christ Marker at the bar when he was making Sans Soleil. The bar appears in Wim Wander's Tokyo-Ga.
Just curious, is this safe to share/embed on my blog? I just did a post about this compilation and I feel like this long form interview provides a lot insight into how this compilation came about. And as someone who's visited a few Jazz cafes in Japan, these pics and descriptions are spot on.
Wow. Thanks for the wonderful video. I born in Yokohama just 3min from Chigusa :)

I don't listen to jazz, but this is a very cool conversation with interesting insights.

@Tonny Is there any book/album to be able to purchase with these photographs?
Not the moment, but Philip hopes to find a publisher to produce a book
There are 3 volumes of J Jazz by bbe label
I am wondering, are there jazz kissa's with a continuous livestream or similar?
Any new videos??
Does anyone know which song that's playing at the beginning of this video?
