    That book on the pedestal - with the clues to the trap - is like an ancient nord equivalent of leaving the password to a computor on a sticky note... sticked to the computor.

    • @philipfisch
      @philipfisch 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Haku infinite Well true, I agree. I guess what I said applies more so to the claws, where the additional level of "security"(the code on the door) is written on the key - not the worst decision, but you still wouldn't want to write the credit card pin on your credit card with a marker. Defeats the purpose of having a code at all, could just have a key. That sort of thing)

    • @raereigames
      @raereigames 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then again, perhaps no one was literate when they made the trap?

    • @philipfisch
      @philipfisch 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raereigames Which one? The animal riddle, or the claw door? In the first case - quite true. In the second - the means of conveying information here is the most fundamental of all: simplest iconic inscriptions, basically - images. And this was exactly the means which would be used to communicate information to the masses in the time of illiteracy: the mozaics and frescoes, as an example(and it is even a more complicated one, actually).

    • @philipfisch
      @philipfisch 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Haku infinite Can you as a player open it wothout the claw? Never, no matter which code you would enter. Is it supposed to be opened without the claw? No it is not. Don't make things up, my dear.(and even if were - would then make the claws completely and utterly derogatory, anyway...)Could some people ages later open it without the claw? Of course they bloody did 8) But breaking the system is just a point about its effectiveness, not about the design. As for the rest... You really underestimate your ancestors, my friend) It is true we would look like geniuses (or rather like adepts of satan...) to the ancienttimers, but if they knew anything it was wildlife, the nature around them. And they saved that knowledge in folklore, passing it on for generations. They did not know why the world was as it was(or rather they made up reasoning for that in their mythology), but they knew how things worked. And if they didn't they would strive to find out, sometimes make up if unable to. Because it is the nature of human beings which is ingrained in us, it is the exact thing that made us who we are now - our need to know.

    • @philipfisch
      @philipfisch 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Haku infinite Don't forget, what we are all arguing about is basically a game mechanic, first and foremost) My inicial comment was a small joke, and Gopher makes the same sort of things with his character's comments and thought processing. With just a bit of imagination all of these things just start to work and let you feel like a smart heroic adventurer in an interesting world full of surprises. Without also spending hours on solving real puzzles, which not everyone would enjoy in their skyrim experience. We all just mock this game so much, because if how much we love it ;)

      I downloaded this mod this other day, it is really creative and can be applied to many play styles. Gopher check it out !!! Also maybe Lenny is missing something in his life, maybe what he is missing is the comfort of divine worship... aka winter sun faiths of Skyrim also by enai!!! It allows you to worship the divines or daedric princes slowing building favor and unlocking new powers through your worship!! There is also Elven, redgaurd, and kahjiit gods you may worship, if you were the appropriate race. Great mod overhaul, currently worshiping the old gods(animal gods)

      @@DarkLordDovahkiin yeah, but... Leonard character is no way going to legitimately worship a god :) The only thing he would try to do to them would be to try to fool them or make a deal with them, hoping it would come out in his favour. But wintersun is an amazing mod, though. I think triumvirate might suit Lenny a lot, but we will see. I guess at this point Gopher tries to be very wise with the new mods, and mostly only add anything if it specifically comlements some step in the development of his character.

    quote from the unofficial elder scrolls pages: "All muffle effects stack additively. Values over 1.0 have no additional benefit."
    also:
    Notes
    The magnitude of the Muffle effect is significant. However, the magnitude of enchantments and spells is not displayed in-game. Most built-in enchanted items have a magnitude of 0.5, meaning they are only 50% effective.
    The actual effectiveness of the Muffle effect for magnitudes below 1.0 depends on armor weight, i.e. 50% of the noise of Daedric is still much higher than 100% of the noise of Elven.
    All custom-enchanted Muffle effects have a magnitude of 1.0, regardless of skill level or soul gem used, making them greatly superior to most built-in enchanted Muffle items.
    Vendors will start carrying Boots of Muffling at level 11.
    When both invisible and completely muffled (muffle magnitude of 1.0 or more) you are undetectable to most enemies to the point that you can even walk, run, sprint, and jump around in front of hostile NPCs without being noticed.
    Muffle can make players almost undetectable to the Falmer, which rely mostly on hearing to detect enemies.

    Realise I'm arguing with lenny and not gopher, but (in my mind) the reason for logic puzzles over locked doors is that it's a crypt. Keys will definitely get lost over the generations, eventually preventing people from getting in. Puzzles circumvent this, and still keep the undead inside so long as they're complicated enough to outsmart a drauger. Probably why getting the puzzle wrong activates a trap, they want the escaping undead to go back to being just dead.

      Sorry, but the 'lore' reasons are just kind of daft. There is a 'need' to 'outsmart' draugr who apparently are curious enough (or driven enough) to pull levers and possibly pick up claw keys and insert them into claw 'keyholes'? But there is no need to put some sort of security on all the bloody short cuts out of the boss chamber right back to the exit? That's awfully convenient isn't it? :)
      And why do I never ever see these draugr randomly trying to pull levers and put claw keys in doors?
      PLUS, why on earth did the maker of the gate want other living people to just be able to enter at will? I mean if I put something in a safe place like that, I'm going to make the combination bloody impossible to figure out or randomly 'zerg'. I mean really, you go to ALL that trouble to make this hard to get in and out and you attitude is "well if you can read I'm OK with you going in whoever you are. As long as you're not a draugr, it should be fine. I'm sure nobody will evil intent will ever find this key." :)
      OK as Gopher here (not Leonard): The reason for them is to add puzzle gameplay for the player to solve and feel good about him/herself :)

Apart from being impregnable, that is as secure as it could possibly get. In their time, I imagine the key would have kept safe, which would make the tombs completely unable to be opened.
    The puzzle is just an ancient Nordic *captcha*, to sort out those vile mer that don't have common sense after stealing a key.

      Of course he is. That explanation may be canon, but it's actually even dafter and pretty much marks the ancients as not just stupid, but actually quite mad :)

  • @carrieullrich5059

    Personally I think that the ancient nords knew how stupid their people were, and designed some silly locks to keep exceptionally stupid people out, but let anyone who can manage logic come in, excluding the excessively stupid. Maybe they were all too closely related.

    I am fully convinced that the Nords of old made these dungeons to keep the stupide undead in because these puzzles are just too easy. Anyone with an IQ over 6 could solve it.

    • @Techhunter_Talon
      @Techhunter_Talon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's actually part of the purpose of the easy to open locked doors or out in the open levers in Skyrim's barrows... and those same undead are the ones that have enough of their mental faculties to tend to the torches and candles in those places.

    hay I was wondering can you use a vortex to mod fallout 3 or do I have to use mod manager?

    • @deadat2
      @deadat2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use vortex but really no mod manager is all that great with the older games. I find it really best to do them manually or get fallout mod manager. Using the respective mod manager from that generation I have better luck with. For example I still use obmm/wyrebash for oblivion. But yea modding fallout 3 or oblivion and older are a fair bit more hands on.
      TL;DR I would use fallout mod manager or just do it manually.

    2:14 Simple answer, Thane Leonard: draugr have lost the intelligence necessary to be able to read. Q. E. D. :-)

    • @GophersVids
      @GophersVids  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      But apparently retained the intelligence to operate simple machinery? They have the intelligence needed to pull the four levers but not to read the order in which to do it?
      Ok, then what if these sort of intelligent but not very literate draugr just start pulling levers randomly? Won't take long to accidentally get the right combination. And why in all this time has no draugr pulled the levers and sprung the trap already? I assume the draugr in that come out of the tombs won't pull levers randomly? Why not? And in the dungeons that have claw keys, you have to assume the draugr understand the concept of a key, a keyhole, how to turn the key in the keyhole BUT not the concept of writing. But then why can't they just keep spinning the wheels until they get lucky? I mean they have to be smart enough to use a key and lock, motivated enough to do it, but not quite motivated or smart enough to spin the wheels.
      These draugr have some seriously specific and odd skill sets :)
      .... or there is a simpler explanation ......

      @@jollyjeangiant Yeah ... get hit by sword and get outfit bloody or roll on the floor and get it covered in mud ... Leonard would need five minutes per hit just to process the pros and cons right there.

    Do foxes eat snakes?
    I feel like the snake was meant to be a rabbit or something, but then they'd need to make a model/texture for it and that'd take time and money so they just shrugged and used the snake instead.

    • @pedigreeann
      @pedigreeann ปีที่แล้ว

      From Wikipedia - "Foxes are omnivores. Their diet is made up primarily of invertebrates such as insects and small vertebrates such as reptiles and birds. They may also eat eggs and vegetation." Snakes are reptiles and some people eat snakemeat as well. Rattlesnake meat, in or out of chili, is eaten in Texas.

    I hate the lock picking mini-game enough as is.... I am fine with turning all the puzzles to locks so long as we go back to Morrowind where lock picking was just poke it a few times and it will probably open.

    Gopher, I love this playthrough your doing of skyrim, i do. But I can't keep silent anymore. That spell you use "Fade Other" to turn inigo invisible is a spell u can only get through the use of console commands, not even cutting room floor add the spell to the game. It a great spell to be sure, but it unobtainable without using the console command player.addspell 28532

    • @GophersVids
      @GophersVids  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Nothing is unobtainable with mods. Not sure which mod adds it though. But yes you can use the console to get it if you want. You can use the console to get everything and anything (and indeed to do much more). Not sure why you felt you had to keep silent about the dev console though, it's not a secret.

    Gopher you know i have wondered why Skyrim doesn't have the BASILISK as an opposition like they have Dragons? your in caves so much you think that they would have added them in Skyrim because They have been around since 79 AD. so J.K. Rowling does not have the rights to the Basilisk creature no one does it's to old of a myth

    Maybe it’s time to let Inigo rest for awhile he seems like he needs some time off. I’ve heard tales of a young bard in Skyrim, goes by Vilja.

      ProTeach I would give it 3 days before Leonard would either put a knife in Vilja’s throat or at the very least make a “special” sweet roll for her. He can barely tolerate Serana at times.

      Stephen Spradley well it doesn’t have to be vilja. I like inigo aswell it’s just the whole sweet rolls bit has gotten old for me personally aswell as the inigo bugging out constantly. Just want a change of pace
