    Hé Justin , wen you want to take water out of your container without sucking any fry. I use an air stone. The fry don’t go true it and your sure not to disturb the water to much. It takes longer to do but it’s safe.
    Give it a try.
    Keep going with your video there’s really informative.

      Good choice! Just keep the water changes frequent and make sure they get a good diet. Extrinsic factors you can include to make them happier is to include a lot of plants, rocks and drift wood and never forget to include even a small patch of fine white sand - they love it! Hope this helps:)

    • @JustinsFishRoom
      @JustinsFishRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The simple answer is, the more often the better. I usually do a big water change at this stage and then wait until they are free swimming to start routinely cleaning after every feeding.

    Hey Justin, I know this video has been a year old but still very informative and helpful for me as a newbie in breeding these gorgeous fish. My only question is, what is the importance of using community water on the hatchlings and how often do you use this method? Also, isn’t it better to use fresh water all the time like 50% water change every after feeding time? Thanks for your time and for answering my questions.

    • @JustinsFishRoom

    How do you feel about breeder boxes for the eggs/fry? I see you often use a bowl in the tank. Is there a reason that you don't use the breeder boxes or net boxes?

    • @JustinsFishRoom
      @JustinsFishRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love the breeder boxes but with ram fry, they are too small to go into one of those until they are big enough. So the bowl method is the best in my opinion

    Hello from Greece!Im a new fish keeper only 3 months in the hobby!My German Blue Rams spawned 6 days ago and the babies are around 70 in number!What size of tank do i need to buy for them in the future to grow them in? Im letting the parents raise them at the moment...And how big they need to get before I remove them?

    • @JustinsFishRoom
      @JustinsFishRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome to the JFR Family. Always awesome to see people from all around the world watching my videos:) That is a great spawn! I prefer to use a 3 ft by 1 ft by 1.5 ft or around those dimensions for a grow-out tank. The bigger the better and the faster the babies will grow. I usually put them in the grow-out as soon as they are on dry foods. This is usually around the 3-4 week old mark. I hope this helps:)

    • @dmaquatics4207
      @dmaquatics4207 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustinsFishRoom Actualy i noticed the male eating fry so probably thats why the female is chasing him... But I dont understand why is he doing this... For the first 6 days he was doing a better job at parenting than the female... Have you any idea why he changed his behavior overnight?

    • @JustinsFishRoom
      @JustinsFishRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dmaquatics4207 Just like people, Rams can be very unpredictable as they are quite intelligent. You really have to give your rams multiple attempts to raise fry before they get it right. This is because they have been commercially bred for many generations and the parental instinct is not as strong as say a Bolivian Ram that are more recent. I hope this answers your question:)

  • @Tyepoe
    @Tyepoe 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I had my electric blue breed with my german blue and after 2 days they hatched and then waited 8 days for them to be free swimming and some of them would jump up and fall back down but they wouldnt actually become free swimming. I put them in a larger container but didnt realize my other fish could suck them out and they all got eaten... do you know why they wait 8 full days and not be free swimming? The water temp was consistently 80deg and nitrates were good. I think this time i might feed first bites on day 3-4 of being wigglers even if not free swimming to make sure they didnt all not become free swimming due to lack of food. Any thoughts or experience with ram fry taking a long time to go from wigglers to free swimming?

    • @JustinsFishRoom
      @JustinsFishRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, Andre! I keep mine in a pH of 6.8-7.0. You can but make sure you do a lot of water changes and ensure that the temperature and pH don’t fluctuate too much👍🙂

  • @markoratic
    @markoratic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you maybe know what could be the reason why fry never get to free swimming stage? They just died when they should start free swim.
    Sometimes everything goes well, but many times recently they just die at that stage (days 4-5-6-7)
    I am now trying your method with changing water more frequently from aquarium water and I will see the result.
    By the way, how many microsiemens have your breeding water?

    • @JustinsFishRoom
      @JustinsFishRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      TDS is usually under 100 ppm.
      This sometimes happens due to a variety of different things including water being too cold or too hot, too much ammonia in the water and even if simply coming down to poor genetics.
      Hope this helps 🙂👍
