This is imo the most perfect episode of TV ever

Fun fact: the Needy Waitress was played by the actress who took over the role of Fleabag in the one woman show, so when Fleabag hands her the napkin in the bathroom, it's a sweet passing of the torch moment

To me, the worst Martin comment was that it was the "kid's choice to jump ship". Seeing Claire's face when he said that was heartbreaking. I wanted to punch him through the screen.

That punch on the face was soo satisfying to see

The sister dynamic on this show is one of my favourites to unpack - anyone who has a sister just understands them both straight away. I always find it interesting that Claire is perceived to the audience (and even says herself that she looks after her messed up sister) she’s seen as the protector/carer but I think in a lot of ways especially in this episode that Fleabag is the protector when needed, she steps up and does the dirty work Claire is unable but wants to do. They have different strengths and personality traits and they tend to rely on eachother for that balance. Claire did not have the courage to get up and leave or even deal with the miscarriage and it was only Fleabag that could have handled that and she knew that was her duty as a sister to do so. It’s very clear despite their struggles that they both look up to each other greatly.

As we move through season two, we absolutely agree that Fleabag is the real emotional guardian for Claire.

Loved your reactions to Season 1. Looking forward to S2. Heads up: this episode is missing from your Fleabag playlist. I found it by checking your video list. Happy I did.

Oh the priest is present don't worry 😉
Yeah his black mirror episode was so good. Andrew Scott's whole filmography is brilliant and his version of hamlet is my favourite if you are into Shakespeare and can find it anywhere. Also the short play Seawall which you can find online

Thanks! I love Hamlet, and would like to check out his performance.

He made for an incredible Hamlet, and the staging and direction of that adaptation was really well done. I even liked the choice of adding Bob Dylan songs into the mix

This is such a perfect episode. It sets the tone for the season and the characters SO well.
And yeah, Martin is a piece of shit and y'all covered most of it, but that whole scene gets even worse when you realize he's actually saying those things to his own wife after *she* just had a miscarriage. I think it's a very pivotal moment for Claire, there's a shift there that only resolves in the very last episode. Character progression in Fleabag is SO GOOD!

You guys finally make it to this masterpiece of an episode! Fleabag was really doing better and trying to be a good member at this party, but she was completely justified with punching Martin. Also, Godmother continues to be the worst. From that lesbian comment to wanting to know if the baby was the tooth guy’s, fucking horrible 😂

I was anticipating you guys seeing how in spite of how “off the rails” ‘Fleabag’ is, all the other characters are kinda worse!
I also love how they never speak Phoebe Waller Bridges’ character name once. Which leads us to refer to her as “Fleabag”!

This is a brilliant show from start to finish. We are truly bummed that there aren't more episodes.

If you would like another "off the rails" uncomfortable dinner episode, you need to watch S5:E9 of Cheers "Thanksgiving Orphans". I would also recommend an old episode of All In The Family called The Draft Dodger. It's another great dinner scene.

IMHO, the reaction is hella short. It would be great if you could do it a bit longer. Love season 2, and this episode is my fave, so chaotic!
