Brimstone is made from the same spirit as the roasted blue corn whisky before being smoked with sun baked Texas scrub oak

Brimstone = Rotten eggs. Interesting choice. Not easy to find in Belgium. Have you tried it? Is it a yes or a no for you? Please remember to like share and subscribe ❤

I bought my first bottle of Brimstone when it's founder, Chip Tate, was still in charge and signed the bottles. I love the stuff. It's young and I doesn't call itself a whisky. Also, Balcones are old school and use the word whisky, not whiskey, if I remember correctly. What I love about Brimstone is that it has a sense of place and is Texan through and through. It's also Balcones through and through. There's a Balcones DNA throughout all their range and I've tried a lot of the rare bottlings as well.
My take on the smoke nose is pure bonfire wood splashed with Tabasco. The palate is young with a a lot of cask but it gets away with it because of the great spirit. Bonfire smoky with a sweet ham note. The Blue Corn is in the background. Got that bonfire element and that 53% abv keeps it very tasty. I like it without water and I like that hot oak note.

@@welshtoro3256 appreciate your feedback and your notes. I think it will take time to get use to the taste. Been drinking scotch for 35 years. That smoke for me was a bit off for me. The shop has some more expressions. Might try some more in the future. Cheers

If you want to explore American whiskeys smoked with things other than peat, you could try Corsair Triple Smoke, F.E.W. Triple Smoke, Dorado from Whiskey Del Bac or Colkegan Mesquite Smoked Single Malt...

Nice one Gert! I really enjoy this whisky whether neat or in cocktails. What's really interesting about Brimstone is that they smoke the liquid as well as the corn. Cheers 🥃

@@thewhiskyenthusiast I was under the impression they only smoke it after distillation. Using scrub oak (Quercus ilicifolia). Will definitely work in cocktails. Cheers. Appreciate the feedback

@@WhiskyLoversSociety you may be right Gert but somehow I thought they smoked the corn as well. Either way it's tasty stuff 😃

@@WhiskyLoversSociety I appreciated the smoke! Otherwise this whisky is way too sweet for me. My husband has a bit of a sweet tooth although he avoids a lot of sugar, but he found this whisky too sweet as well. Big time. We gave it away to a friend who liked ridiculously sweet whisky so it went to a loving home!! Lol! I hop you are having a terrific day! Oh wow 28C! Yikes! It's been like that in Vancouver too - 25-28 C or so and humid. I dislike humidity, Hell and damnation and sulphur - weird name choice for this whisky!! Loch Lomond 12 was recently recommended and what a dud. Awful. I will give this bottle away too. Not drinkable for hubs and me. Have you tried it. Geoff at G Whisky listed 10 lousy scotch whiskies that enthusiasts don't bother with and I agree 100% with the list!! Check out the video! It's awesome as always!! 🙂

@@WhiskyLoversSociety I'm glad this whisky works well in cocktails! I love a delicious Rusty Nail with peated scotch, a strong Manhattan and a Vieux Carre are amazing! I mostly have a dram or two of scotch now if I choose to have some lovely alcohol. Over the summer I will probably make some cocktails here and there!!

Far better TX blue corn alternative is the Still Austin seasonal release. Blue corn species do tend to be extra sweet, but the acetone is a clear indication it's not well made. They blew the cut. Still Austin is the exact opposite. Expertly blended by Nancy Fraley and you can bet there's no acetone in it.
