    I can't agree more with your 4th point. Psych and self-help authors: don't front load your books with horrors. Many of your readers won't be able to take in your advice after dragging themselves through your nightmares.
    If you absolutely need to include all the horrible things you went through, put them in the second half. Front-load the cure.
