Im 68 this was an inspirational movie for me. Today I still watch it over and over. I recommend it to people of this generation. Indeed I would tell any kid to “take your passion and make it happen “
This movie cost $4,000,000 to make.It took at the box office $205,900,000 plus $36,180,000 rentals. What a return for your money. One of the most successful movies of all time.
Curious as to the source for the box office $$ you reference in your comment. BoxOfficeMojo / IMDB report less than half of that $$ for box office (which nevertheless is still a _huge, huge_ return on the small investment.
@@ajs41 Interesting. Regarding what movie made off their potentially $7 million investment, BoxOfficeMojo www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt0085549 reports $92 million gross and they only have U.S. numbers on that, so they report the same for "Worldwide" (which of course has to be a larger number, they just don't have it).
@@trysometruth Strange fact: Ive been a fan of Flashdance since 1983 when it came out but I still havent watched it yet from start to finish! Im planning to watch it in the next few days. Ive just been a fan of the music and the music video since then. Ive seen loads of clips from the movie of course, like all the famous ones such as the restaurant scene and the underwear scene.
@@ajs41 Flashdance was panned by critics when it first came out (one sign of that truth is the 36% critic's rating on RottenTomatoes.com), but it's a movie that won-over most people that saw it (some of whom would probably be embarrassed to admit how many times they've watched it). 79,000 ratings on RottenTomatoes from regular folk average to a 61% fresh rating. Not gigantic, but obviously way better than the critic's rating. Flashdance relied almost completely on its untested star, Beals, because the story ends up feeling more like an excuse to watch Beals and to watch a series of what could really be called music-videos-within-a-movie. Both Beals, and the notion of a "music video" were new things in 1983. There's some good stuff from supporting actors and the cinematography is truly excellent. The dance routines are photographed and staged with a lot of imagination. Another bonus is Lee Ving of Fear is there in a small but fun role. And of course there's the _songs._
Hermosa y simpática . Recientemente la ví en una entrevista y debo decir que se conserva en exelente forma . No ha perdido su candidez y su belleza que irradia desde que la conocimos en flash dance...
@HeLovesCulture Jennifer Beals has had a long and very interesting career. She has never been an "out of work" actress. She has done a lot of indie films and my favorite role of her's was as "Bette Porter" on The L Word. Now, she is the lead star on the new FOX show, "The Chicago Code." She is also a brilliant photographer. About a year ago, JB released a book of photographs from her 6 years time working on "The L Word." She is so talented.
The movie isnt deep or intellectual but it caught the spirit of the times in 1983, not just in the USA but in the UK as well and other countries. The music from the movie was massive here in England.
hi" Jennifer Beals-your move flash dance was entertaining and fun and the music score was wonderful - thanks your acting was wonderful - signed by Duff
Estella Sistar I remember there being a news report or something at the time were they talked about her doing the main dance scenes so I think it was publicly known I remember she was French but I didn’t know that they didn’t put her name in the credits did they not put her name in the credits?
I remember learning some years after the movie came out that Marine Jahan did the dance scenes (as well as exercise workouts, etc), but this is the first time I'm hearing that there were 4-5 dancers altogether. All uncredited, I guess, which seems unprofessional if not illegal. I wonder why it was done that way - would it have taken away some of the magic? Nevertheless, Flashdance did cast a magic spell over '80s teenagers. Jennifer Beals' fresh beauty, innocent and sultry at the same time, the dancing, the amazing soundtrack, the fairytale plot (somewhat improbable, but still romantic in its own way)... not to mention the fashion which took over for the years following - off the shoulder sweatshirts and leg warmers, anyone? 😊 Epic movie. ❤
I do not know about the beginning, but the finale dance sequence was done by a French dancer, except the break dancing part. That was done by a break dancer, a male, who was later featured in Beat Street in 1985. I believe he was in the Rock Steady Crew from New York City. You can tell because the angle of the camera and the lighting changes as we see the beginning of the break dancing sequence.
I was able to tell they used stunt double at the end just by watching. I noticed that it was a guy in a wig but I didn't think much of it as it's not uncommon.
She had a great chance in the beginning of my career, I love Jennifer Beals, who now has four double studios. Cinema is this is a set of things no one does anything alone. I wonder when will be released on blue ray movie flashdance. Here in Brazil and have not heard anyone has any information. excuse my English I use google because it can not write right.
Interesting! this video might be the only one in youtube that features an interview of flashdance including Jennifer Beals. This doesn't even happen on the DVD. I mean, JB is not in it, which is so sad. She doesn't seem to like to talk about the movie that much, and in my opinion Flashdance is the movie where she shines the most, and that I most love seeing her do. I don't care if she's not a dancer. SHe should make a Flashdance sequel. She can do it and still look good in it!
Hi. Somebody knows where I can get information about locations from Flashdance? I'd like to know where was filmed Mawby's Bar and Alex's house. Thank you.

No question the dancing and dancers were the stars but unfortunately non of those dancers were actors and to tell the story you need an actress to do it. Jennifer Beals is a brilliant woman a Yale graduate. I remember when the movie became a hit they had the real dancers interviewed on several shows.

The music played a HUGE part in making this movie the BIG hit that it was. Love the music.

Thanks Jennifer for making Flashdance it was one of the best movies with you and Michael.
Jennifer it was one of the most beautiful women of the decade of 80 and remains beautiful even today. I love you my princess.
Great dancer jenn.
The 80's were the best for us and the movie was Great !

The dancer was Marine Jahan , not Jennifer Beals!! Marine did all the dances being Alex.

What a shame that they did not give Marien Jahan any credit because she did most of the dancing. She was 30 at the time.

Tive a honra de assistir o lançamento, foi inesquecível pra mim
Primeiro filme para adulto que assisti no cinema. Tinha 11 anos na época. Bons tempos.
She had an amazing body!! This movie created extensive crowds each time in Guyana
dude, this is cool
She was 19 when she did this movie, damn
I could always tell there was a body double during the final audition scene. A couple of times the wig looked ridiculous and unnatural.
Good movie Jennifer’s character was so unique 🙏🏾❣️🙏🏾

Dr. Audrey Morrissette the break dancer was Richard “Crazy Legs” Colon. He was only 16 or so when he filmed.

I didn't know they had up to four different dance doubles for Jennifer.. I knew the French woman, but a boy was a dance double too... wow !

where is the 2nd part? now I'm curious ...
Is he talking about Kevin Costner the actor or Kozner (the way I heard him pronounce it)?
jaja it was (Crazy legs) from NYC Rock steady crew that shaved his legs for the backspin scene lmao!!
Irene Cara was pretty also.

She still looked Beautiful on House M.D. so I guess she did alright in TV after this movie.
house M.D???
House the TV show. She's his X-Wife on there.
That was Sela Ward, not Jennifer. She did have a guest role on Lie To Me.
Oh no I got the show wrong. She was the ex-wife of Tim Roth on Lie to Me.
