I love this car. The ultimate sleeper. No frills whatsoever. Just brute power from the baddest engine of that whole era. One of my all time favorite cars
Lou, your courtesy in asking if you may open the door is yet another example of the reverence you have not just for the car but for the owner. It’s an indication of your considerable character. Well done, sir.
Lou, This has to go into the Guinness Book of World Records as "the sleepiest sleeper ever made" As a Plymouth, it was the poor cousin of the Dodges of the era. It would be fascinating to know more of the history of this car but I am a little surprised the original owner splurged on a radio when they could not even afford power steering.
I guess they were thinking pure performance..power steering will rob like 5 horsepower (a guess) of the solid lifter Elephant's 490hp..but i seems he loved music enough to get an AM radio :)
I love it! Even the badging is subtle. You'd have to get awfully close to this car to see those badges, but good luck getting close with that Hemi under the hood!
Love the car, the condition is superb, the contrast between the look and the engine is so awesome. Kudos to this guy and thanks for the video. Awesome, really awesome ! Not surprised it gets so much love in the comment.
This is the same car that Jere Stahl won the NHRA A/S class at the 1966 nationals by beating Bill Jenkins 327/350hp Nova. Both cars we're from Berwin Pa and match raced all over the country. The Hemi had a little more grunt at the big end compared to the mouse motor but both cars dominated the very competitive A/S class. Also, check out the very early am-fm radio in this car, not too many '66s came so equipped. And really fast cars didn't use power steering in 1966, pulled horsepower from the rear wheels. How many remember drivers running at the track back then with the power steering belt disconnected?
A beautiful sleeper and plain Jane car! I love the color a beautiful paint job. Sounds strong to by gosh. He has a treasure there. Just like brand new yet. No options but yet I saw it had a AM FM radio in it which really surprised me. Gotta love those old sleeper cars and this one is awesome Lou. Thanks for sharing!
Reminds me of another one that slipped of my grasp...back in the '80s, I tried to buy an original '66 Hemi Coronet 500 4-speed for 6 grand; it was a Colorado car that needed paint due to the original paint worn to primer in some places. No matter how much I presented Wells Fargo with facts and figures about the appreciating value of Hemi cars--and as a then-Air Force member, I was obligated to pay my debts--they said it was "just an old car", and turned me down; they did the same on a $3,000 Texas-original '69 Six Pack Super Bee 4-speed.
Amazing car Lou the only thing that can top this for sneaky would be a four door hemi ( yes they made them) or a 4 door super cobra jet drag pack ( yes they made them as well ) the older i get the more i love original cars thanks for finding all the treasures you do , love em all. Cheers Steve
I think they made 3 four door Hemi cars. Two were 66 Dodge Coronets and one was a 67 Plymouth Belvedere. Probably a law enforcement agency ordered them and then realized the Hemi was too tempramental and high maintenance for everyday street driving
It's amazing how you could order a car back then! The new Dodges are so more complicated than this. I would rather have this though, it;s just so basic, with that amazing engine under the hood. People would think you have a restomod though. Paperwork saves this car. Amazing car Lou, thanks for showing us this.
Cars like this may have been plain Jane, but since buyers at the time usually bought as much car as they could afford and more often went for their counterparts with more equipment and more trim, in a way it's more exciting to see the plain Janes, even without a Hemi. Jan Wilsgaard, long-time designer for Volvo, used to say: "Simple is beautiful". This bronze car wins a gold!
No truer words spoken Lou - SLEEPER! It didn't appear to even have power steering and more than likely no power brakes either. That would help give definition to the the words "muscle car". You'd need 'em to wrestle this beast! Nice to see you feature a stripper Lou - there were plenty around at the time.
