My dad had one. He would charge it every night in the garage by plugging it in. One day the car decided to catch on fire. Smoked the whole garage. Nothing was harmed in the garage or house, but car was toast. The batteries and the suppression systems did a good job keeping the fire contained to the floor well. The fine folks of BMW North America took care of him by buying the car back for full price and giving home a x5m for pennies on the dollar
I just spent a week with my daughter's 2021 xDrive45e and there is a lot to like about it, actual fuel mileage being one (more than 1,200 miles on a tank). And it is quiet. However, the electronic quirks were somewhat of a turn-off, particularly when some components worked on and off, but always worked perfectly when taken in for service. The twin turbo 6 is fantastic in sport mode, but with a sticker price of north of $75K, the electronic bugs should have been worked out and are almost a non-starter for me.
Thank you for making this. It answers all my questions about whether I want to go with this or a Tesla Model X. It's interesting when an electric mode you hear just as much noise on the road as you would in a Tesla. They really try to push you not to use EV all the time by making it buttons to switch it and out of (less engine use less services at their dealership). I own an x6M and while I like bmw I switch to Tesla next

Great story, but scary 😲 Hope he enjoys that X5M!
