Getting ready to refinish my dining room with recessed ceilings. This video helps a lot. I have paneling along the bottom half of my dining room. Would you remove that paneling? Or should I leave it and tape over it?
Yeah it’s 42.5” paneling off the floor and is laid over the sheet rock. With hardwood floors. Was thinking I would be OK to tape off the paneling and floors and just scrap the texture off for a smooth wall finish, primer and paint.
I need to do this for a bathroom that has had the walls spackled for a texturized effect, so there is a lot more texture to it than what this video shows. Do you think this method would work for my project?
Is there anywhere you test it out that isn’t visible? Maybe behind the toilet or under the sink (if there’s an opening). It’s hard to know until you try.
I tried skim coat on one room and this method on another. The skim coat didn't turn out too hot and took forever, but it's probably a result of my lack of abilities haha
That video totally answered my burning question about needing or not needing to skim coat! Thank you
I've been looking for a video for weeks...so glad I just ran across your video! Thank you
Glad it was helpful. Hope everything turned out aright for you!
Thank you, man, for not telling us the hardest way to do it, then suggesting you pay them to do the job.
Thank you for this. Omg I got 2 bedrooms that are over exaggerated textured out.
Would be useful to know the room dimensions and how long it took to do the each step of the job.
I WISH texture came off that easily.
Shit I wish my latex paint even came off that easy
For real.
Okay....that video helped. Much appreciated. Cheers.
This is not typical! The reason the paint came off easily is because Primer was not used. 99% of the time you can’t remove paint like that
I have never seen paint peel off like that unless it was latex over oil based.
Great vid! Thanks! How many hours did that take you?
Man. I don't know what kind of paint that was. I have NEVER seen paint peel off like that.

Is there drywall behind the paneling? We had that scenario in our kitchen and it popped right off.

Thank you for the video.what brand sander do you use? I have been looking into them but they all have very mixed reviews.
I just bought a cheap one off of Amazon. I'll say the vacuum piece doesn't always work that great and you end up with dust in the room regardless.
Thank you ! Great information
You’re welcome! I hope it helps you out!
never do this before knowing if there is aspestos in that textured layer
Aspestos won’t do u any damage like that if you are diy
Do you have to remove the paint first? Can you just sand it down until it's flat?
I've tried just sanding it down and it's really hard to do so. The paint doesn't sand well since it's latex.
OMG great job!
Thank you!
Can you do this technique to plaster walls?
I need to do this for a bathroom that has had the walls spackled for a texturized effect, so there is a lot more texture to it than what this video shows. Do you think this method would work for my project?
Is there anywhere you test it out that isn’t visible? Maybe behind the toilet or under the sink (if there’s an opening). It’s hard to know until you try.
Any suggestions if the textured paint doesn’t come as easily as yours?
Careful you might have asbestos based
Idk what they textured our walls with but it doesn't come off that easy!
Great video. I hate these textures. Such a lazy and unnecessary step by the builders to finish a room.
Sorry what was the original material? Drywall? Guessing this wouldn’t work on plaster?
Hey, yeah it was drywall. I’m not sure how you’d remove it from plaster unfortunately.
What grit is the sandpaper you used?
I believe I used about 120 grit to get the bulk off and 180 to make the areas where the drywall was floated blend better.
What is the name of the machine you used at the end? Please
It's an electric pole sander. This is the one I purchased. amzn.to/4bND9kq
Thank you bro
Honestly… Skim coating would be a lot easier and faster!
I tried skim coat on one room and this method on another. The skim coat didn't turn out too hot and took forever, but it's probably a result of my lack of abilities haha
In most cases but not all. And... This is cheaper for a lot of walls by the time you add the mud and labor difference.
That’s a lot of work. Skimming would be easier.
