      I have owned one for about 10 years. It has a certain sound that I can always recognize. Mine is not as nice as the one in the video, but the sound is about the same. The 513 also sounds good playing acoustic parts or as a strummer. PRS is hard to beat.

    • @MrErdner
      @MrErdner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why don't more people give PRS credit for making a three-on-a-side headstock where the D and G strings have a straight pull and stay in tune?

    • @MrErdner
      @MrErdner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jew Tube I don't agree or disagree about what PRS guitars look like. I personally think they have some of the best figured wood veneers in the business, but that doesn't affect sound or playability. I also think their overall shape is OK. Not good, not bad, just OK. But after fighting Gibson/Epiphone headstocks with the severe break angle on the D and G strings, I'm very impressed with the PRS tapered headstock. Incidentally, Heritage guitars, which are copies of old style Gibsons made in Gibson's old factory by Gibson's old craftsmen have a PRS style headstock, for the same reason.
      I'm one of those grumpy old guys who really don't much give a damn about cosmetics compared to how important I think sound and playability are.

  • @stickpictures
    @stickpictures 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a blue-flame (10-top) 513 and it's one of the best guitars I've ever owned. Versatile af. A lot of it is down to that neck length. PRS standard is Gibson-scale (24.75") whereas the 513 at 25.25" is halfway between that and standard Fender scale (25.5"). Seems like a lot of people don't know that the longer STRING length is one of the things that makes a Fender sound like a, well, Fender. When you want that springy-twangy sound, that's a lot of where it comes from. Incorporating that into a PRS makes for a really sweet situation. The multiple pickup settings might seem geeky at first but in fact they're very straightforward once you understand the logic. the whole set-up is designed to let you go from a Stratocaster (w/5-position blade switch with 2 out-of-phase positions) to a fat original-PRS sound, with those hand-wound super high quality PRS pickups. The pickups themselves are switchable between single-coil (Strat), dual--coil (PRS humbucker), and overwound humbucker (for added gain w/out active electronics). It's a unique beast, not for everyone, but to me it's a magic unicorn among instruments I've played. A very special axe.

    • @Stefan-Van-der-Pulst
      @Stefan-Van-der-Pulst ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, a PRS Custom (or Standard) doesn't have a Gibson scale length but at 25" it is as close to it than the 513 to a Fender. I also own a 513 and I agree it is very different than my Customs.

    I had one but mine was a Rosewood. I miss it very much. Had the sell it to save the House. Lost the house anyways. The 513 Rosewood is one of the nicest guitar's I ever owned. But you think for almost $5000.00 USD they could have done something about 60 cycle hum. Playing a rosewood Neck is heaven. The 3 way switch gives you different tones either hot humbuckers, a more vintage Humbucker or "straty" single coil modes. the 5 way is a simple pickup selector. scalloped nut a single vol and tone pot's prs locking tuners. a class act of a guitar. oh! the inlay are Gold Pearl "513" bird inlay. The eagle inlay on the head stock means it's a Private Stock high end model.

    The 3 way selector switch changes the humbuckers from high output wound to moderate to classic low output winding. I think it works in the way of different coil taps. The 5 way is classic as on any HSH.

      This particular guitar is obviously made in 2010 as a one year special run (25th Anniversory), it came with a special anniversary case, the headstock inlay. Additionally it shows the transition of this model, because it introduced the "new" birds to the 513 production line as of 2011 and discontinued the 513 birds (a Joe Knaggs design).
      22 frets, jumbo fretwire, 25,25", 5 singlecoils, four of them paired to humbucker format. Five way blade switch for (classic) pickup selection (pos 1 treble, pos 2 treble + middle, pos 3 middle, pos 4 middle + bass, pos 5 bass), three way blade switch for mode selection (pos 1 full-humbucking, pos 2 clean-humbucking (comparable to P90 or mini humbuckers), pos 3 singlecoil; in all modi the middle pickups keeps singlecoil).
      Master volume and tone poti.
      Standard the vibrato is floating mounted and held by four springs. The electrical compartment is equipted with a PCB (printed circuit board). This has an effect of reducing buzz noise (lower cable lengths, less antenna behaviour). Later 513 production line models came with point to point soldered electrical parts, because Paul had the opinion that classical wiring offers more transparency in the sound. But those guitars are more sensitive.
      That particular guitar has some aftermarket modification: the additional strap pin at the neck foundation.
