I'm a Star Wars fan. I've watched the 6 films a million times. As a kid I played with lightsabers, bought a stormtrooper helmet, a clone helmet, lots of figurines, read books on star wars vehicles and planets and characters as well as a bunch of EU novels, was subscribed to Lucasfilm magazine until it ended in 2009, loved the video games: empire at war, republic commando, jedi academy etc. learnt to use after effects just to be able to make videos of myself with a lightsaber like in the movies, went to the Star Wars 30th anniversary exhibition and was transfixed by it etc. Disney killed it for me. I simply cannot appreciate content from people who openly berate actual fans while creating bad stories and characters that show a total lack of commitment and love for the universe George Lucas and many others with him created, people who care more about spreading their narrow political views than about creating good stories with lasting beauty and universal appeal. When you have the absolute privilege to inherit a revered franchise, you're supposed to honour it, not selfishly twist it to satisfy your transient little political obsessions. You also don't just inherit the franchise, you also inherit a fanbase and you ought to respect them. That didn't happen. See... to them, I'm not a fan and my loyalty to the franchise is irrelevant. I'm just the toxic white male who needs to be lectured about his toxic expectations that must be "deconstructed" to make room for marginalised voices and bold female characters that shatter my silly white male stereotypes and appreciation for traditional heroism. Well, don't worry... I'm out. Enjoy your new imaginary fans while the actual audience for Star Wars quietly drifts away.
I totally agree. I kept giving it another chance and kept being let down, but I can only do that so much. I'm not going to be tempted back by mediocre shows and films that appear better than they are, simply because they're surrounded by dross.
In complete agreement. I feel quite similarly. They tell a large segment of the audience that they’re not wanted and when we leave and the franchise suffers they complain lol. Thanks for the memories Star Wars. I’m long gone.
Honestly I started drifting after last Jedi, and after Skywalker my passion for anything new for Star Wars died off. Went to other fanbases and have been enjoying myself for the last 5 years. The God Emperor Protects!!
What sucks is Skeleton Crew is the quickest 180 I’ve seen a company do from series to series and unfortunately because of their overconfidence being their weakness, The Acolyte made a stain on the franchise that’s gonna take a home run to remove. Skeleton Crew is basically taking the bullets that ricocheted off The Acolyte.
Taking ricocheted bullets? I keep forgetting that Acolyte even existed - I don't think about it. I'm only reminded of it's existence in TH-cam videos and comments sections complaining about the state of Star Wars. I didn't think about Acolyte even once while watching Skeleton Crew, up until... just now, watching this video, and reading these comments. Not sure how it's affecting Skeleton Crew in any way. Are you saying that reviews are affected by what came before it, or are you saying that the show is affected by internal Disney (production) sentiments/reactions to other material?
I think haters of skeleton crew don't understand it's a childrens show. Like if they think it's for adults then it's pretty bad, but for kids it's great.
@@Tyler-k2o To be fair, the original material did set the bar pretty much impossibly high. Enough so that they thought they'd kick off the new trilogy with a rehash of what was already done. They can't top it. They can only build on it, or experiment with new things. Unfortunately, good storytelling simply isn't their priority, so they will fail, time and again, forever, until they understand what's important.
@@ReclaimerTyphoon That's not an excuse. There's Comics, Novels, Games, a bunch of resources they could've used to come up with a sequel story. But they chose the lazy route: Reboot
The sad fact for me is that is how bad the quality of writing and direction has gone downhill. Disney had some great ideas to build their shows off of and they just ruined them. A prequal show about the Rule of two sounds great, but turned into the Acolyte. The rise of Boba Fett to conquer and rule a planet, great concept, ruined in the final product. Disney needs to hire some talented writers who have actually worked in the past, a decent director and leave them alone to make some good shows.
JJ Abrams deserves more blame than he gets IMO, I don't think it's a coincidence that Star Trek was also ruined immediately after he got on board. People give TLJ all the flak but TFA was also horrible, I absolutely hated it and was hoping TLJ would fix it but it just made it worse.
She's one of the many minions KK has hired to ruin it. Even back before TLJ, she was commissioning authors to write those cringe high republic books to supoort the whole "the force is female" nonsense.
@@troyadams19 I agree, and all the failings of TFA bled into TLJ. Han Solo regressed as a character and was killed, same thing happened to Luke. They also kinda started sidelining the other characters towards the end of the movie.
Problem #1 - Previous shows destroyed our trust in anything new star wars related Problem #2 - Even if Skeleton Crew is good, like no one asked for Skeleton Crew. No one knows or cares or wants Skeleton Crew. There are SO many great shows fans would love to see. Darth Maul, Clone Wars, Thrawn, etc. etc.
I do agree but then again, all of sw is around same characters for more than 40 years. Either give us something GOOD and new, or Old Republic but sorry, I dont need to see more stuff from imperial era and clone wars
What Disney has done to Star Wars is akin to how your favorite local restaurant gets new ownership because the previous owner decided to retire and the food now is no longer the same. You go there a few times thinking you’re going to get your old favorites like Obi Wan or Bobba Fett and it’s a bust or not what you remembered it to be. And then you just don’t come back.
I have used this analogy for StarWars before too and it fits well. Slapping a label on something don't work, the content matters most and Disney is finding that out.
It’s a shame that the legit criticisms get drowned out by a small, vocal minority of weird fans who think the problem is skincolor and xx (y) crhromosomes
@@jivet3919 Make no mistake, it is intentional from Disney to focus the eye of the public on commonly disliked minorities in the fanbase. They use DEI as a bullet sponge and try to hide the valid criticisms behind this flimsy cover.
I go with Theory's philosophy: Just "hope" things will get better going "forwards", even if they make characters such as Anakin desire Watto in unnatural ways as long as it's a good story.
people have lost interest. They need something really strong to bounce back. A average show like skeleton crew that nobody asked for isn’t a good first release to build star wars back
They get so mad at critique because they literally are writing themselves as these characters, so if you say Osha was insufferable they take that as a personal attack (ridiculous I know). These people are not talented, have zero passion for the IP, do no research and make lore mistakes, its so bad. This is what you get when you dont hire based solely on MERIT alone. It benefits the company, bottom line, customers. Its crazy how much failing forward has happened at Disney. I don't understand how their stockholders are fine with this. This is why so many think they are getting pumped with BlackRock money or some ulterior motive like Cathleen has dirt on people or something so she gets full reins. She was a nobody who George is on video mocking when she tried to interject awful ideas for the prequels. No imagination, no talent. Toxic insufferable leadership. Nothing will be good under Disney again. Nothing will be "cool" again. The only hope I will have is if they sell the property off.
Star Wars is dead. It was murdered by the evil mouse, who continues to defile the decaying corpse in front of all those who once cared about it. For myself I'm past even reminiscence for the good times, as having seen Disney do it's worst to the corpse so often that's all that comes to mind. (Disney lost me at TLJ, never mind Star Wars) I can't imagine anyone under 40 is interested in Star Wars. So good, bad, or indifferent, who is going to watch a children's Star Wars show? PS: I don't want to see 'good' Star Wars, at this point I want it to stop entirely!
y because in the future water will be really expensive because the riches are buing everything and bunker it so they have enought , you can see it in LA
@@renaissancenovice7202nah, people love Filonis clone wars, whatever you think of the person, the facts are most people loved his Clone Wars whether you like it or not. The Last Jedi started this.
The Acolyte was the nail in the coffin for me. I don’t like being accused of being a homophobic misogynist, because Disney has been making some really crappy Star Wars content. When DEI wins out over story, it never works. One of the best show’s ever made was The Wire. The biggest badass, and arguably the most intriguing character on the show was Omar, a gay character. No one gave a damn about his sexuality because the show was good and the characters were good. If anything, Omar being gay added to his complexity.
It’s not JUST that The Acolyte was bad. It’s also in part the REACTION to the fact it was bad, the part of the community that got all up in their fee-fees at the “misogyny” and “toxic masculinity” and “racism” and all the other “isms” and “ists” for the crime of not loving their 10/10 representational masterpiece. The part of the so-called fandom that collectively lifted their legs to mark Star Wars as THEIR territory and has clearly caused many real fans to walk away from the piss-stained shambles that was left. A prevailing attitude of “if this is what Star Wars is now, then fine. Have it.”
Acolyte was better then skeleton crew because i coukd not get past the 1 episode of the skeleton crew the word Jerk in one scene not star wars language it's earth human language
Glad I didn't care about all that, never even saw the Acolyte, Mando S3 already told me the mainstream SW stuff is going to be garbage, but I'm glad i gave Skeleton Crew a chance because I knew it would be a completely different experience and it hasn't disappointed
Damn, wasn’t expecting that. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Skeleton Crew. My dad and I have been watching it and have really enjoyed it. My dad didn’t hate the Acolyte, but didn’t like it either. I hated it. Skele crew is just the Goonies. It’s silly, childish, and downright fun.
Not to mention the genuine fanservice in the show, I didn't hate the acolyte either, but the sequal trilogy has done irreparable damage to the franchise. The community will jump to hate anything. Even if it's genuinely peak starwars.
Most sad and telling thing is that Skelton Crew is doing worse than Acolyte in the ratings because audience review score is something like 91% positive. I haven't seen advertising for Skeleton Crew, I saw Acolyte ads continue for a bit after it was cancelled; which is also wild Disney mismanagement.
@@darthcalanil5333 So are close to 75% of the shows I watch. My recently watched on Disney Plus include old Disney shows like Gargoyles and Bonkers right now, as well as the Bluey minisodes. On HBO it's Craig of the Creek and Adventure Time. It being marketed to kids doesn't explain why I get more ads for a cancelled Disney Star Wars project than a current one. Also, you're kidding yourself if you don't think all Star Wars is mainly for kids.
@@darthcalanil5333They marketed an 80s nostalgia bait show to kids? That is still wild mismanagement. Pixar knows how to do this. You don't just advertise to the kid. You have to advertise it to the parent. Parents should see a callback to one of their favorite movies growing up and want to share that experience with their kids.
Same thing with Andor, 0 advertising especially compared to Kenobi which came a few months before it despite being very well received by people who actually watched it.
@@MichaelSmith-jx3uf Totally agree; although it's at least a more understandable mistake because I think we all WANTED Kenobi to be Mando Season 1/2 quality as they were bringing back Ewan and Hayden.
Imagine Sam Witwer writing Star Wars stories. He knows the lore, he’s corrected Dave Filoni, he earned his position as Starkiller, he’s a real good guy.
Not gonna lie, I had my hopes up when they used “Star Killer Base” in one of the shotty ‘sequels’ cause I thought we were gonna get a Live Action Star Killer from the Force Unleashed games 😭 I was so very wrong
@@k7l3rworkman97 You know that Luke Skywalker was originally going to be named "Anakin Starkiller", right? Or, what about a minor character from KOTOR 1 (Whom you can fight in a death match on Taris) called "Bendak Starkiller"? The name "Starkiller" has been around in Star Wars for a very long time.
It's not a kids' show either, though. My tweens thought it was boring and didn't want to watch past ep1. I think you're being nice and imagining that kids might like it.
I think the mistake they made was trying to create their own IP from an existing IP rather than carrying the torch , in order to have the ability to sell their own merch and not have to pay Lucas anything for licensing. They took the greedy, penny smart/dollar foolish route and shot themselves in the foot!
Carrying the torch. SO well said. The moment Ray stopped being Lea's daughter to the moment Luke did not get a training scene with Ray like the one with Yoda gave him. They #$%^ed it all up.
At some point you HAVE to make something new with the old. It wasn't that they tried to make a new IP, I mean they did but it's different. There's the IP for the franchise and the universe and lore, but then there's IPs for a show or game. Fallout has 6 IPs under the main IP of Fallout. Fallout 1, 2, 3, New Vegas, 4, and 76. Starwars has 100s of shows, games, books, comics and toys. At some point new stuff was going to be made. How it was handled was bad, Mando is a example. Mando was great, only problem I have is him showing US his face. That's stupid. Like Theory said, Book of Boba was bad because Boba wasn't like the Boba Fett we know.
Skeleton Crew basically received no advertisements of any kind! Statements should have been made after the failure of The Acolyte and before the premiere of Skeleton Crew.
I’m sorry, it’s not that. There was plenty of advertisement. The reality is that is targeted at kids. Not the show you want to put out when your brand is suffering. I have no interest in watching it. I’m not the target audience.
Advertising via the Disney+ app is sufficient. After all, it's frequently said that the most important thing for a business isn't getting new customers, but, instead, retaining the ones you already have. Loyalty, and continued support (which is going to be more sustainable) is more important and valuable than hoping to lure in people (the stragglers/non-loyal) who aren't already watching your stuff/aren't already invested in the things you have to offer. If you have Disney+, then you're going to see Skeleton Crew all over the place. You can't not see it. Commenter below said they saw an ad on a bus in Orlando: that was a waste of money on Disney's part (or they were already renting the space to begin with, so they said, "sure, why not"). The value of Disney+ for the company is that they *keep* you watching - not that they bring millions of more people in. The market is saturated. Everybody who would want Disney+ has it. They just have to keep people from leaving now. Not unlike a casino.
@ I agree! I love Rogue One. I really think they need to consider the binge model for some of the shows. I think SC would’ve benefited from them releasing all episodes at once.
@@davidk713 Yeah, Star Wars does not have the luxury of doing a weekly release anymore. You need some hype to maintain that kind of attention, and Lucasfilm has none. Fans will get bored and check out of the first episode, or just the internet reaction to the episode even.
@@crispybatman480 ding ding ding. yes this IP has no right to be doing a "kid show" right now. even if its "good" why in the world would i want to invest in this (Disney) world thats been butchered to all hell. theres no point. Star Wars needs to be over. Merchandise aint selling anymore. its done.
This is exactly what happened with Solo. That movie isn't amazing, but it's a solid adventure flick with interesting characters and a tight storyline. Kind of the definition of what "a star war story" movies should have been had they made more.... It disappointed at the box office because fans were still pissed off by The Last Jedi 5 months earlier. If TLJ had been recieved better then Solo would have done very well at the box office (also if Ford and Williams appeared in the beginning and end of the movie in bookend cameo scenes as Han and Lando, but that's another subject). The Acolyte was so bad I'm not sure Star Wars shows on Disney+ can recover from the reputation hit.
Was more than just last jedi, there was the casting issue for han, the wierd ass writing moments for both han and lando, etc to add to the ire people held for it. I made my decision after I saw the casting promo videos, long before tlj came out.
@@BrokenBoxProduction Of course, but I don't mean the reviews of Solo, I mean ticket sales... if TLJ was well loved, the box office for Solo would have been a bigger success. Skeleton Crew is a good show, but no one is watching because of The Acolyte letting them down.
Skeleton Crew should have been released before Acolyte. It's a good - simple and fun - show. Easy to watch with characters you can relate to. The Acolyte was constipated.
Just look at what they have done to Doctor Who with the help of the BBC or the Section 31 thing being pooped out with a Star Trek label on it. In SW terms, the fact that they almost didn't release Skeleton Crew as they thought it was a bad show - seemingly because it was too Star Wars for them to understand - says a lot about the idiots being allowed to run studios these days. What I don't understand is how people are still willing to throw money at these clowns.
No. It's not about George's legacy, or building on what was already there. What's important is good storytelling, character development, etc. It absolutely doesn't matter what came before it. If you tell a good, solid, fulfilling, immersive, engaging story, and fans are unhappy about it *just* because it deviates from "canon" or whatever, then that's just fans being toxic fans. Good storytelling trumps everything.
DISNEY does not need any money (seriously, financed by trillion $ cie) The main investors in Disney make they're money in Mil Ind Complex and Pharma and Gov Contracts, and Housing, Disney is not a money venture for them, it's a destruction of culture, and demoralization tool for them, not supposed to bring money. The ONLY intelligent people will avoid anything Disney and cancel Disney+ and ESPN. If you don't do both, it's because you love it in the ass. Otherwise it means you want to PARTICIPATE and BEING PART of the destruction of your favorite show.
My son's name is Luke... George Lucas's Star Wars will remain forever my guiding light during my formative years as a youth and young adult. Nothing will take that away. Then Disney came... And Kathleen Kennedy got to run the ship...The balance so far? The Good: Skeleton Crew (I thought it was really nice actually), Rogue One, Mando 1 & 2, Andor 1 (bit slow, but it was a thriller...), Ashoka wasn't too bad. The Bad: Trying to do VII/VIII/IX without having a predetermined path... handing it off after each EP, Solo... The Ugly: Assassinating Luke Skywalker, "Star Wars Canon doesn't exist", "The force is female", "Star Wars fans are to blame", Acolyte (the straw that broke the camel's back) They had everything! A fantastic fandom, cool lore, canon from here to there, and they threw it away! Skeleton Crew would've been better received in a different age, before Kathleen Kennedy decided to take a massive dump on Star Wars and its fans.
Skeleton Crew basically got the short end of the stick. Overall, it's a pretty decent kids' show. The problem is that it came out just after the disaster called Acolyte.
I'm a huge Star Wars nerd and have been so passionate about the franchise since I was a kid. I absorbed everything Star Wars, from comics to books to games. As silly as this sometimes sounds, it had such an impact on who I've become as an adult that I regularly find myself quoting iconic characters and using the incredibly talented writing and character development to help guide me through the challenges we all face in our more mundane lives. I've never felt more disconnected from the franchise than I do now. I've gone from the guy who you could ask the most obscure Star Wars questions to and get a 10,000-word essay on the matter, to someone who can't bear to bring myself to watch The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew because I just dread thinking about what harm they might do to the franchise. I'm firmly on the side of the fence that you have to take the risk and create new content, or we're just going to be recycling the same stuff over and over again. But you have to respect the original content and the lore within the universe we hold so dear. You have to put the storytelling before real-world agendas. This idea that you have to battle against your consumers is so insane-how can you be so disconnected from your fanbase that you don't realise the values you want to champion in the content you create have always been there in Star Wars and its EU? It beggars belief. I'll always go back to the writing of James Luceno, Drew Karpyshyn, Chris Avellone, Dave Filoni, and, of course, George Lucas himself. But, my word, does this franchise need its proverbial Luke Skywalker
I'm 1000% in the same boat. I've watched every single second of Star Wars media up until Acolyte. At times, I ALMOST started Skeleton Crew, but I just can't. Just patiently waiting for Andor Season 2!
I'm like you. Huge fan since I was a kid, since the 80s and loved it til the Last Jedi. That movie was such a letdown and it really shook the franchise to its core and it changed from there forever. After the Last Jedi, Star Wars declined so much. Only Andor was really good because Kathleen Kennedy wasn't all over the place. Even Mando was only average for me. It just relied on a gimmick (a small yoda mixed with Gizmo) but it was fun but wasn't that well made. Boba Fett was terrible, Obi-Wan was ridiculous and The Acolyte was one of the worst tv shows I have ever seen. Kathleen has to step down, along lucasfilm insane agenda. Disney has to hire real creative people with star power and not just yes man that will just write and direct sub par productions. Disney killed Star Wars soul. Only Andor has that spark of excitement for a Star Wars project.
@tbone2646 this is the stage I'm getting to. But it's a sad state to be in, being numb to something you've been so passionate about. At least when you are getting angry it shows that you are still caring. It's sad to see that more loyal fans to the franchise are becoming disconnected to the point that they are apathetic about the franchise
Has there ever been a larger franchise ran into the ground? Disney absolutely ruined SW. it’s the walking dead at this point. Disney could GIVE it back to Lucas and it is still dead.
Skeleton Crew has actually been a pretty fun ride. It doesn’t impact any lore to think of, it doesn’t pander to the audience in that it could have had an outta nowhere, “ooooh the kids go to mustafar??” (They don’t go there btw) but it just shows that the show was at least made with a story in mind.
The ten year old in me really is enjoying Skeleton Crew. I am glad I gave it a shot after The Acolyte. I am interested to see how they wrap up the season. With The Acolyte, my only interest was in discovering how they were going to blame me for not liking the mess they made.
I've been a lifelong Star Wars fan and 2024 was the first year I stopped consuming. I've lost all hope. I'm simply assuming anything Disney are putting out is trash and I'm better off spending my available time watching other shows. I check back in with SWT every so often to see if anything is worth coming back for, but nothing has.
Dropped Disney plus during acolyte. I’ll probably pick it back up for Andor, that’s all that interests me at this point. Literally nothing else is good
Those of us who are having families of our own now are not introducing our kids to Star Wars in the way that our parents did for us because it's no longer the simple, wholesome portrayal of good triumphing over evil that it was when we were young. The true damage Disney has caused to the franchise will not even be felt for another generation. What we're seeing now is nothing.
THIS. NOBODY talks about this. It is going to be a VERY rude awakening for Disney in the next 10 years unless they release a movie that's better than at LEAST RotJ.
@@koalabrownieThere's a point to all of that. Han shoots Greedo because that's who he is at that point in the story - a ruthless smuggler who doesn't care about anyone or anything other than himself and getting paid. This action clearly shows the audience who the character is. Then Han grows and changes for the better as the movies continue. That's the whole point. Han wasn't a good person from the beginning. Leia is purposefully degraded by Jabba to crush her pride and humiliate her. This in turn makes the audience hate Jabba more and cheer for his demise. Luke is specifically shown to have a darker side to him in Episode 6, all with dark clothes and dark actions, like chocking out the guards, threatening Jabba and yes - killing him and his people. The idea was to make the audience question whether Luke is indeed capable of turning to the dark side in the end, setting up the tension during his encounter with Palpatine. Nothing happens for no reason, and the story itself is still wholesome, because in the end, good still triumphs over evil. The good guys win, the empire falls.
As a long gone SW fan, I 100% agree with you, they simply don't know Star Wars. It's Star Wars, not "Star Internal Conflict", it's a messy, blurry, yet thrilling and exciting universe. Look at the Luke's story, Kyle Katarn's story, or Galen Marek "Starkiller"'s story, Revan's or Mara Jade's... They had compelling and relatable story in a bigger universe that always felt bigger than them. Disney, stop with this petty 1-to-1 drama from person X to the person Y. REAL Star Wars was always bigger than that.
As long as Disney have their name on Star Wars, it will continue not to be watched. Disney have killed their reputation. I’m tired of people saying the reason no one is watching is because we’re done with Star Wars. That couldn’t be further than the truth. No one trusts Disney
I saw StarWars in theater in 1977 when I was 5 years old. I was hooked. Recast the main characters with young actors and pull stories from the EU. Those were well written stories by good sci-fi writers. People will flock back to StarWars to watch that if done right. They're almost there with Thrawn and Asoka but bring in Luke, Leia, Han, Lando. Wedge Antilles and Rogue Squadron going after Thrawn.
Disney lost me not because of the acolyte.. but bit by bit chipping away my love for the franchise with every bad show or movie. Book of Boba... Obi wan, episode 9, the mandalorian season 3, Ashoka.. i didn't even watched the Acolyte. I've understood im not the public they want, so i won't watch anything disney anymore.. The anime revival we're having thanks to netflix and the investment in animation is a much enjoyable time in front of a screen than anything produced by this corporations without heart, love for the product or creativity. I see arcane and, even knowing it's flaws, i can enjoy the level of detail, love, search and intent to tell a story.. I think in fantasy and sci-fi stories that are about adventure and characters, your public is alway going to be kids.. if not literally is the inner kids of generations.. you ain to the sense of wonder and curiosity if you want people to resonate with your tales... Disney has no more magic it seems
I’ve also been watching a lot more anime. And the same, I only watched one episode of Acolyte, and it wasn’t what killed it for me. My interest was chipped away over time by several bad movies and shows, and by time Acolyte came out I was barely hanging on.
The public they want DOESNT EXIST and they keep doing this over, and over, and over, trying to generate it. Because otherwise, these nitwit narcissists have to admit they were wrong and their "storytelling" is hot dog piss, which they'd literally rather die.
You are so right about that. I cancelled my Disney + subscription after 3 episodes of the acolyte. Just wanted to no longer financially support the garbage that they are producing right now. Because that's what they actually care about ...it's all about profits and if there are subscribers who are just complaining all the time but won't stop pumping money into that shit they will never stop doing it the way they are producing right now. I personally think star wars finally died with Ashoka... After the episode with Anakin I was really thinking we were back baby. But the rest of the season was boring as fuck and so meaningless ... The acolyte was just "giving it a try" for me with an instant regret 😢 Hopefully at some point they will be so frustrated with how the franchise is performing that they just sell it to somebody else 🤷🏻 that's my last hope.
Well done for you, I must admit I watched every episode of the Acolyte that I regret now lol. But at least I had context for having a good laugh watching YT reviews, mostly Star Wars Theory snd Critical Drinker. But yeah I left after that dumpster fire and not gonna watch Skeleton Crew despite being a freeroller on relatives Disney+ account. I finally had enough after Acolyte with Disney.
I hate to say it but I agree. Before Disney took over Star Wars I would have been interested in spending money on watching a movie or tv series set in a galaxy far far away. Now though I just don't care, the expanded universe is full of far better stories involving characters we actually enjoy. Disney can keep whatever it is they are doing to Star Wars, I personally no longer care.
A wild suggestion: Disney should license everyone to stream it, Netflix, Amazon, all the ad services. Just get it out there to the biggest audience possible, treat it as marketing to bring people back to the brand.
They'd never do that though as people would just cancel Disney+ if they can get the same shows on other streaming platforms, there's not really anything on there other than Marvel and a couple other standalone films/series that are worth watching imo.
You think nobody liked Solo: A Star Wars Story, because of their disappointment with the last Jedi? That wasn’t it for me at all! It was the origin story of the coolest Star Wars character that nobody asked for. It was like doing micro dissection of classic characters with a rusty old butter knife. Nobody cares or should know about how Han Solo got his name, the particulars of meeting Chewbacca, and hearing with your own ears, bestowing the nickname Chewie. Everything you know about Han Solo like winning the millennium falcon from Lando, and how he got his blaster how Chewie got his bandolier… things like his old girlfriend character who he risked it all to go back and rescue, but then never mentioned her again. It was a feeble attempt at creating the Star Wars Multiverse where Obi-Wan would face Darth Maul again, because that was definitely in the planning! It was going to end up as cheesy as wrestling, because Obi-Wan already faced Aniken again in a stupid mid-quel situation which they were sure to repeat in Obi-Wan season two! It’s because of all these things that Disney proved they don’t understand their audience or their product, it’s just this thing they acquired to make money with, and crap out really horrible replaceable movies every year! Remember when we had to wait three years at a time for a new Star Wars movie??? there’s a reason for that. It was inevitable that they would have to recast Han Solo- but the guy they picked looked and sounded nothing like Harrison Ford! So I couldn’t sit and watch solo because a deep fake would’ve looked better, and just A.I. the shit out of his voice 😂
Yes! Star Wars was sacred, revered, loved by some almost religiously and Disney crapped all over it. So yes, many (including myself) have left and want nothing to do with the new stuff anymore.
I want entirely new franchises at this point, even others like Star Trek got slaughtered by these same JJ Abrams adjacent pricks. Like so many even bothering to make fun of Disney's trash generator has become tiresome now. Assume the next Star Wars thing is hot garbage and you'll likely be right 95% of the time.
It's amazing really. The age old saying "The customer is always right" has been completely disregarded in today's age. Companies and their employees ignore and/or blatantly insult their customers. Why are these companies surprised when their I.P.'s fail? 🤨
You know there's canon and legend, well personally everything done by Disney I classify as SAF (Stupid Ass Fantasy) and means it never happened. Don't let Disney decide what's canon and what's not.
For a lot of people Acolyte was the last straw. Speaking for myself, I held out canceling D+ to watch the first few episodes. I watched and then I canceled and I haven't looked back.
Such a shame too, because I’m actually enjoying SC more than any other SW project in some time. But Disney is losing so much fan goodwill that it doesn’t matter now if they put out good products because so many people have checked out. They’re going to need to start stringing together some wins before people start buying back in
For me, the EU being disregarded was the coffin, and The Last Jedi was the final nail. Being a comic book fan, I was already disgusted with Disney for ruining just about everything Marvel, but I thought at least I still got Star Wars…right.
I think the main issue with star wars is that most people have become apathetic towards the ip as a whole. To quote KOTOR 2 "apathy is death" like I even feel apathetic towards star wars like I didn't even bother playing star wars outlaws which is the first time I have completely skipped out on a star wars game. I personally don't hate skeleton crew I think its better than the acolyte that said I think the show is mid it's kind of lazy with a lot of its set design and names especially when they are on at attin. I mean they literally have garages and call them garages, They have play grounds like you would find in some American suburbs that look just like a normal play ground. to me its just lazy. Is skeleton crew better than the acolyte yes ,but that's also the worst thing that they have ever made. There have been shows that they have made that I liked, Rebels, Rogue One, Season 1-2 Mando, the bad batch, tales of the Jedi, the Jedi games with Kal. My general view of how Disney has handled the ip is its like they went out bought a thing of milk and instead of taking care of it they let it sit out of the fridge which allowed the milk to sour. That's how I feel about star wars the whole thing is soured.
I’m hoping the landing sticks tomorrow night. And I’m hoping after the end gets good reviews, people who haven’t watched will binge watch the series and contribute to the watch time. So far I think the series is good, if the landing sticks I’ll give it a second watch
Also if you look at the chart at 4:59 averaging minutes watched etc. The Skeleton Crew had the lowest initial view amount and still kept the same level of retention after the first initial view.
I've been a fan of Star Wars for decades. It hurts so much to see Disney taking a huge dump on our childhood. Acolyte was definitely the last straw for me. Canceled Disney. Won't go back or pay for anything Star Wars again until they change their ways. I will always love Star Wars with all of my heart, but this now, is not Star Wars...
Because they fumbled the entire universe soo bad nobody is interested anymore. Just look at the state of Star Wars TH-cam, fewer and fewer hardcore fans are interested.
It is a big shame… but the problem is the overall feeling about Star Wars as a franchise, not so much the quality of Skeleton Crew itself. There is real brand damage overall that Lucasfilm NEEDS to address… nobody else is going to fix it for them, and nothing just thrown out there will make the issue go away… Someone at Lucasfilm, or one any of their new projects, needs to work on whatever the root issue is within the company that keeps putting Star Wars in the weird spot it’s in now. Hopefully this changes sometime soon, but it’s going to take time and a lot of work to fix this… Because real talk, Skeleton Crew as a series doesn’t deserve the backlash fallout from things like The Acolyte or anything else.
Yup. They seemed to have accidentally made Andor and Skeleton Crew as the best theyve made (no, Memberberry One mostly sucks I don't care what anyone says). That is like offering a mole hill of gold and asking you to ignore the mountain of dogshit sitting next to it. I just want something entirely new at this point in a franchise, Star Wars died when Jorge sold Lucasfilm to a bunch of idiot suits.
The female narrative that Disney pushes will always fail. Look at the fallout show a female lead character that’s not written terribly could actually be a good show who would’ve thought lol Disney get your shit together
Skeleton Crew much more captivating than the fires in space show with the stone walls that burnt down and the lady that died after turning into a Ringwraith before saying she was the good guy.
I said it before, tell human stories, not personal, social struggles in an established world. The story of the Acolyte may have been a decent show on its own without co-opting an established brand
That’s what they deserve right now. Failure after failure gives us a hope that the day when all of these anti talented witches get fired comes sooner, and hopefully someone will take care of the franchise and put it back to the right direction. You are absolutely right about skeleton crew, I haven’t seen a minute of it, because acolyte graved disney star wars for me. My only hope is Andor S2 now and that’s it… I’m done with all of their garbage.
Anti-Talented Witches, you say? The power of ONE, The power of TWO, THE POWER OF MAAAAANNNNNNNNYYYYYYYY! Okay. I'm just trolling you, because you said "Witches". Wait till The Nightsisters of Dathomir start saying it.
I can appreciate and respect you acknowledging and making a genuine natural realization/turnabout as to what's going on with not only Star wars but the industry as a whole, but bud, it's massive creators like you who were praising a lot of the member berries for quite a few of those years, which only encouraged it to get to where it is. You're doing the proper work now though to help.. re-guide the misdirection I'll say..
Star Wars on Disney has a foot in the grave. But Star Wars overall is still alive through the fandom. When Vader 2 fan film is premiered, i guarantee it will be received way better than anything Disney releases at this point.
I resisted the puke feeling and started SC anyway... glad I did. It is a decent kids show. I wish we had more character dev on the Jude Law's character... btw, I cannot keep track of all his names. Right now, since I don't know anything really about him, I am not moved if he succeeds or fails, lives or dies... just need more on him.
Lucasfilm are getting the bad faith that they delivered 10x back to them. I don’t care if they make 100 masterpieces in a row. Reboot the sequels or the franchise will continue to implode.
This has unfortunately been the case for me. I saw the Skeleton Crew trailer, thought it looked good as a standalone, but I don't feel good about Star Wars after The Acolyte. If I'm going to reward Disney with my money, it needs to be a Star Wars project that feels Star Wars.
The beginning of obiwan kenobi was perfect. A desert rat with p t s d was played perfectly. Then the leia story was poor. We all know who has to Go. The numbers are telling the story. And the story is bad.
star wars is the last setting im still "caring for" , abandon completely anything warhammer and star trek related , books minis magazines comics books i sold everything
You know, I'm not from the US. So I'm looking from the outside in if you will. And what astonishes me most of all how EVERYTHING seems to be political in the US. I lived in the US in the 90s and it wasn't like that back then. Sure, during election times there was a lot of political stuff going on but once they were done, people would go back to their regular lives. Now it seems like everything is political all of the time, at least in the media and then it hit me... we didn't have social media back then. People need to really look around in real life some more again.
I’m sorry but I don’t understand why everyone’s so hype around this show when I was in middle school the old republic video game trailers where even better
No they won't. Liberals don't like using the word "Pedophile" anymore. Rather, they would use terms like "Minors-attracted Adults", instead. More Politically Correct that way. 🤮
I been checked out since “episode 8 and 9” I didn’t trust the “Obi Wan” series and I’m glad I didn’t. All I have learned has come from online reviews, I used to be a diehard fan. I had years of memorabilia, Star Wars was my thing. I bought the Jedi Survivor games but didn’t dare touch that last release, disney did this. I have a good job and would have spent thousands of more dollars on this IP, nope these people won’t get my money.

I am a "pre-Disney" star wars fan. Anything Star Wars related that Disney comes out with I refuse to watch.
Best response ever!! Nailed it!!
You’re 100% right, and it broke my heart reading this 💔
Honestly I started drifting after last Jedi, and after Skywalker my passion for anything new for Star Wars died off.
Exactly
your faith in your friends is yours
It's the TLJ-Solo effect all over again
Taking ricocheted bullets? I keep forgetting that Acolyte even existed - I don't think about it. I'm only reminded of it's existence in TH-cam videos and comments sections complaining about the state of Star Wars.
I didn't think about Acolyte even once while watching Skeleton Crew, up until... just now, watching this video, and reading these comments. Not sure how it's affecting Skeleton Crew in any way. Are you saying that reviews are affected by what came before it, or are you saying that the show is affected by internal Disney (production) sentiments/reactions to other material?
Kenobi was the first fake drop on a Rollercoaster of apathy and Acolyte was the actual 90° 200 foot drop into a doom loopty loop.
Man. Skeleton Crew is actually very fun watching with my son. It respects it's younger audience
I actually enjoy Skeleton Crew. 1000% better than that Acolyte trash
Agreed
More like Infinite, 0 or any negative number can fit infinite times in a positive one. Acolyte brought absolute apathy to a killed franchise
Still inferior to the Expanded Universe!
I think haters of skeleton crew don't understand it's a childrens show.
Like if they think it's for adults then it's pretty bad, but for kids it's great.
Right it actually feels more starwars than any of the recent series.
Just shows how much Disney has fucked up.
Right how can you take an IP like Star Wars and make people not want to watch! Wtf?!?
@ Hollywood is out of touch my friend
@@Tyler-k2o To be fair, the original material did set the bar pretty much impossibly high. Enough so that they thought they'd kick off the new trilogy with a rehash of what was already done.
They can't top it. They can only build on it, or experiment with new things.
Unfortunately, good storytelling simply isn't their priority, so they will fail, time and again, forever, until they understand what's important.
Disney and the woke activists always take the revenue for granted and think they're teflon. They're not.
At this point we have to assume Disney gets off sexually at the prospect of losing billions.
Has to be some sort of fetish 🤣
They get off sexually to little girls that’s why they are constantly trying to appease them.

TBH, it was KK and Ruin Johnson who killed SW(and to a certain extent Bob Iger for allowing it). Leslie Hedland was just desecrating a corpse.
...gleefully desecrating a corpse.
Necrophilia Hedland
Problem #1 - Previous shows destroyed our trust in anything new star wars related
Problem #2 - Even if Skeleton Crew is good, like no one asked for Skeleton Crew.
It's like McDonald's bought Burger King. Not only is it not a Whopper anymore, it's just a shitty Big Mac now.

Stirying telling was good. After that new stuff killed it.
The Force Awakens ruined Star Wars first. It doesn't matter if it made money. It layed the shoddy foundation.
Have it.”
Amazing how people praised the first 2 episodes though
Acolyte was better then skeleton crew because i coukd not get past the 1 episode of the skeleton crew the word Jerk in one scene not star wars language it's earth human language

Skeleton Crew ruins nothing about Star Wars at all for the first time ever!
Because it's mainly marketed to kids.

Goerge Lucas: Womp womp.
They took the greedy, penny smart/dollar foolish route and shot themselves in the foot!
shot the golden goose, and charred its corpse and tried selling that as golden eggs.

Apparently Disney doesn't like money because they keep not caring about the StarWars legacy George worked so hard to build.
They've done to star wars what EA did to command and conquer
Just look at what they have done to Doctor Who with the help of the BBC or the Section 31 thing being pooped out with a Star Trek label on it. In SW terms, the fact that they almost didn't release Skeleton Crew as they thought it was a bad show - seemingly because it was too Star Wars for them to understand - says a lot about the idiots being allowed to run studios these days. What I don't understand is how people are still willing to throw money at these clowns.
What kind of company hates profit , star wars was literally the easiest thing in the world ever to take over and make profit from 🤷🏽♂️👁️💩
The Ugly: Assassinating Luke Skywalker, "Star Wars Canon doesn't exist", "The force is female", "Star Wars fans are to blame", Acolyte (the straw that broke the camel's back)
They had everything!
Agreed. Its the same problem with "Solo" which is a really good movie that came out at the worst time.
Skeleton Crew is legit fun.
I'm just completely apathetic to it now, I'm not mad I just don't even think about it at all
I'm like you.
Yeah i think if it does bad now it'll become a cult classic
The ten year old in me really is enjoying Skeleton Crew. I am glad I gave it a shot after The Acolyte. I am interested to see how they wrap up the season. With The Acolyte, my only interest was in discovering how they were going to blame me for not liking the mess they made.
Bro unlocked my core memory when he brought up " The page master " haven't thought about that film since I was 6
I've been a lifelong Star Wars fan and 2024 was the first year I stopped consuming. I've lost all hope. I'm simply assuming anything Disney are putting out is trash and I'm better off spending my available time watching other shows. I check back in with SWT every so often to see if anything is worth coming back for, but nothing has.

The amount of love i see for skeleton crew online does not match this at all.
Those watching it are enjoying it. The trouble is that most fans dropped Dismal+ during Sackoshyte.

My son won’t be seeing anything Star Wars made by Disney. And probably won’t see much of Disney newer than 2000ish
There's nothing wholesome about Han killing Greedo in cold blood. Or Leia in a chainmail bikini. Or Luke killing a bargeful of unarmed passengers.
Honestly bro, I'm so close to just giving up on star wars in general.... but you're the one and only one person that still gives me hope
That’s a shame, because skeleton crew is light years ahead of acolyte in terms of quality. And… it’s actually fun.

@ Ha! Shame on me for not inputting a Star Wars pun in a perfect opportunity. Well done 😂
I need Bob Iger to do a Zuckerberg type video where he just sits down and says they’re starting over with new leadership and everything

The acolyte was just "giving it a try" for me with an instant regret 😢
Hopefully at some point they will be so frustrated with how the franchise is performing that they just sell it to somebody else 🤷🏻 that's my last hope.
that is funny, I too cancelled by disney+ subscription after episode 3 of acolyte.
I canceled after two episodes, that show was not good at all.
Rebellions are built on hope.
I'm with you.
0:16 Me after realizing how they treated Luke in ep 8
A wild suggestion: Disney should license everyone to stream it, Netflix, Amazon, all the ad services. Just get it out there to the biggest audience possible, treat it as marketing to bring people back to the brand.
Honestly if they could ever get over themselves enough to do that I think it’s a solid idea to bring eyes back
They'd never do that though as people would just cancel Disney+ if they can get the same shows on other streaming platforms, there's not really anything on there other than Marvel and a couple other standalone films/series that are worth watching imo.
100% that's why Night of the Living Dead did so well
You think nobody liked Solo: A Star Wars Story, because of their disappointment with the last Jedi?
There was a uk poll and more people identified as jedi than Jewish. No more
I want entirely new franchises at this point, even others like Star Trek got slaughtered by these same JJ Abrams adjacent pricks.
NOTHING is too big to fail. Pure hubris...

Yes, those who watched it have kept with it as it is a good show. The trouble is with Disney, not Skeleton Crew.

It is over. The only way to fix the mess is to build a time machine to stop the sequel trilogy from being made.
The female narrative that Disney pushes will always fail. Look at the fallout show a female lead character that’s not written terribly could actually be a good show who would’ve thought lol Disney get your shit together
I love the skeleton crew. Very fun show!
