  • The Men’s High Jump event at Herculis, Meeting International d’Athétisme, got underway at 19:50 (local time) at Le Stade Louis II in Monaco. On that day the Temperature range was 68°F - 81°F (20°C - 27°C). The stadium is located at Sea Level on the shore of the Mediterranean Coast.
    The event featured eight athletes, six of them ranked in the TOP TEN in the Men’s High Jump by World Athletics on the date of the event July 9, 2021, all eight of them were Tokyo-Bound:
    Marco Fassinotti (Italy), 2014 European Team Championships Bronze Medalist; 2015, 2017 European Team Championships Silver Medalist; 2017 World University Games Silver Medalist; 2014, 2020 National Indoor Champion; 2013, 2015, 2021 National Champion. His PB=2.33m, and SB=2.26m, at that time he was Ranked 55.

    How it Unfolded:
    The Heavy Hitters in this competition were: Akimenko (Authorized Neutral Athlete), Lovett (Canada), Nedasekau (Belarus).
    Akimenko and Lovett cleared 2.16m, 2.21m, 2.25m, 2.29m on their first try.
    Nedasekau cleared 2.16m on his third try, cleared 2.21m, and 2.25m on his first try, he missed twice @ 2.29m, and then he skipped his third try to go to the next height on Round 5.
    Round 5
    Nedasekau missed 2.32m, therefore, he was eliminated.
    Lovett and Akimenko would miss 3X at 2.32m for a Tie, their Marks were similar up to that point.
    Round 6 (The Tie Breaker)
    Lovett (Canada) missed at 2.32m, while Nedasekau (Authorized Neutral Athlete) cleared 2.32m for the Victory.

    Note how Position 4 was a Tie, both athletes had similar results on each Round up to their last Cleared Height of 2.25m. While positions 6, 7 and 8 have the same Height of 2.21m, their final positions on the Results Board depended on how many tries it took them to clear 2.21m.
