  • Without a doubt one of the most legendary fighter aircraft of the late cold war period. The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was immortalized by the 1986 movie TOP GUN. And with the release of the box-office record breaking TOP GUN: MAVERICK sequel in 2022. What better time to make a model of an F-14 Tomcat.
    I did not like kits markings, so I ended up making inkjet decals for an F-14 belonging to VF-31/VFA-31 (aka the Tomcatters) stationed on board the carrier U.S.S FORRESTAL (CV-59) circa 1985 to 1986. The 80s intertitles were generated by PhotoFunia’s Retro-wave generator; then modified in Adobe Photoshop by me.
    Hope you enjoy this 80s’ throwback (in the form of a scale model video). And happy modelling to you scale modellers

    Regarding those 80s intertitles. They were generated by PhotoFunia’s Retro-wave generator; then modified in Adobe Photoshop by me. The VF-31 decals were made by me & printed on Testors Inkjet decal paper.
    . BTW hope you have enjoyed the video, if you have any questions just ask in the comment section below.

      Thank you I am glad you liked it. 1/144 scale is a fun one for aircraft kits. Plus, they do not take up too much room, which is a bonus. Thanks for watching!

    Love the extra work you put into this! I saw this in the shop not long ago and was tempted, but ultimately decided against it. Maybe next time 😋

      Thank you for your kind words Matt! I'd recommend getting this kit, it makes a nice model of the tomcat. And the beautiful thing about these academy 1/144 scale kits is the price tag

    Thats one great looking model! I was wondering, what do you use for your time lapse? I'm hoping to improve my videos and feel that the time lapse on my iPhone camera is much too fast for my liking.

    • @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels
      @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! In regards to the time lapse. I film the assembly of a kit on a HD Camcorder in real time. I then speed the footage up in editing in Adobe Premiere Elements, increasing the footage speed from 100% up to 250% to 500% in time stretch. Hope this is of some help for you & good luck with your videos :)

    Can you make a tutourial on how to make custom decals

    • @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels
      @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good idea since I do often use custom decals on my models. ATM I’m working on other videos so that’s something I could do in the near future. Below I posted links to other Tutorial videos on how to make DIY Decals.
      The only thing I would add, is the fact you don’t need to use Testors Decal Bonder, to seal the DIY decals. You can use Micro Scale Decal Film, which you can apply via a paint brush. Or just use a can of Artist Matt Spray Varnish (marked waterproof) . Used in the coating of drawings and Paintings. That has worked for me in the past. I hope this will be of some help to you.

    Nice build but the quality of academy models in 1/144 scale looks quite poor. Revell ones is much much better in my opinion. Also any tips about panel lining for noob?

    • @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels
      @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I would recommend with panel lines using Tamiya panel line accent black. After the varnishing the model, run a tiny bit of wash over the panel lines. Let it settle for about half an hour. Then use a bit of odorless thinner, on a cotton bud/ q- tip to remove any excess.

    How did you hand paint so good

    • @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels
      @ShuttleFactoryScaleModels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. The way I brush paint a model starts with me spray painting the model with spray primer. After that's dried, I can start painting via brush.
      The brushes I use are soft hair ( made from Nylon or other synthetic materials). The paint is often applied in 2 to 3 thin coats of paint. With plenty of drying time in-between each coat. I hope this helps you in some way.
