The explanation is beautiful but towards end of the video, as you have discussed that why during sunrise and sunset the sky appers reddish, I think it is not sufficient. You must say that both scattering and phenomena of refraction plays an important role in colouring the sky in to red. During sunrise and sunset the Sun is at farthest position from earth. First of all when the sun light reaches the atmosphere they undergoes refraction as they passes through the layers of atmosphere, for which blue light bent the most and red light the least.Along with bending blue light and other short wavelength light components get scattered much. So refraction and scattering of sun light consequence in blue light escaping out of sight of observer on Earth & red light undergoing a perfect bending to reach up to the sight of observer on Earth.

We are able to see a color just because it is reflected by that object. As sky is reflecting the blue color we are able to see the blue color. Sun appears red during sunrise and sunset because all the colors of Vibgyor get absorbed in the long path of atmosphere it is traveling and what all remains is red.

That's a good point...And the reason why the sky doesn't appear violet or indigo is because of the fact that the retina in our eyes are designed to perceive red, green and blue colours (primary colours) more effectively than other colours...say orange, yellow, violet, indigo, etc...So, among these 3 least wavelength radiations that are perfectly scattered, blue is more effectively perceived by the human eye...so, sky appears blue....hope this clear ur doubt 😃👍

You say the blue light reaches earth 8:50 But why do we only see the sky as blue if this color passes the atmospheric sky reaching our eyes?
We also see the sea as blue, since it reflects the sky.

  • @shivaprasadmath8508

The evening sky looks orange/red not because of the increased distance between the sun and the earth as you have said, but actually because the sunlight travels longer distance in the atmosphere before it reaches us.

    Sir i have a doubt!
The density atmosphere is very high near the earth compared to up above the earth...i.e.,the particles of atmosphere are of larger in size which usually scatters light colour of larger wavelength...then why the sky doesn't looks red since the last refracted ray is from the layer of atmosphere near the earth (large colloidal particles)??????

I see a contradiction in his concept. At 5:53 he says blue is more scattered than red(it passes through), so we see the sky as Blue at day time. At 11:00 he again says the blue scatters more and the red passes through so we see red at sunset! The color which scatters more is the color we see in the sky, this is the main concept(?). Isn't it?

Thanks for your presentation. You explained it very clearly and made it easier to understand. However, I am a little confused at the end when you explained the red sky during sunrise and sunset. You mentioned that the distance between the earth and the sun is greatest during those times. Shouldn’t this distance be more or less the same in the short space of hours between sunrise and noon? And any variation due to the observer’s position on the earth is negligible due to the tiny earth radius compared to the distance to the sun? Thank you.
