I love the interpretation of the singer not knowing their gender or not identifying with either name, so both names are sung. That's so goddamn good, I feel like it elevates this cover in a way.
Oh I adore that you changed Jane’s sob on “tell me who I am” into a growl it’s nicely startling

AAAAAAAAA THIS IS SO FREAKING COOL AND THE EPITOME OF GENDER CRISIS. AS A BIGENDER PERSON, YES JANE/JOHN DOE. YOU CAN HEAR THE FRUSTRATION, THE PAIN, ITS JUST SO MMMMMMMMMM.
I look at every comments like that, saying that "omg, the mix Jane/John is so genius for non binary people" and I just stand here like... Johan seems gender neutral to me...
I'm brought here by annapantsu, Justine, and of course the original singer. You interpret this song wonderfully, adding some rage to the despair and sadness already present in this depressed, unresolved person song. As someone who deals with chronic depression, and a long time performing arts kid/adult, I appreciate this song with multiple emotions and nuanced interpretation.

it would be john doe. that’s what they call people who end up in the hospital with no identification. john doe or jane doe depending on their gender. so the ballad of john doe :)
My edit of the lyrics was made to reflect a gender neutral interpretation of the song. In this interpretation, the singer does not know their gender/does not identify with either Jane or John, and so, both names are sung throughout the song.
