    This is such an underrated movie in my opinion, it’s genuinely one of my favourite films, based on one of my favourite books, keeps relatively faithful to the book in terms of adaptation too

    • @Nagranddan

      The writing style in the book(s) are fantastic. I wasn't a fan of the later plot things, but Isaac Marion's prose style is just beautiful and has great flow with how natural it feels. Like there's nothing stiff about how he handles internal monologue and scene description

      @@splorby176 I liked there were more "zombie society" things in the book, even if they were a little silly. That said, I agree with the magic-ish stuff - unfortunately, that's leaned into harder in the next three books after Warm Bodies. Still, Isaac Marion's prose on all of them is great.

      I can recommend another film in the same "but with ZOMBIES!!" upgrade (and it actually is an upgrade, both to classic lit-based film adaptions and zombie flicks): "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies".
      You'd think it would be dumb, but the film is played straight and actually works. They pay attention to historical accuracy, stay kind of loyal to the original book, but somehow fold in the zombie angle pretty nicely.
      The same writer is responsible for "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter", but "Pride..." is a much more successful adaption.

    So I did watch this back around the time when it came out and it was a cheesy movie then too, but I think a very original take on zombies. It was a regression on the virus to where they turn back into humans, while still having that comedic factor while adding a bit of that young adult romance that was popular around the time.

    I also love all the Romeo and Juliet references, it's not a straight retelling, more of an inspired by, and some are more obvious than others, like the balcony scene. But their names too;
    R = Romeo,
    Julie = Juliet

      2 more zombie films to try:
      "Shaun of the Dead" with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and several other well-known Brits
      "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies"; the locations, costuming, dialogue, clever adaption, and contemporaneous music is perfect. Faithful to Jane Austin, but delightfully twisted. The story of class and manners is not lost or modernized, just adjusted to contending with a zombie apocalypse.

    For anyone who wants more of this, the book is also pretty great (author: Isaac Marion). It's such a weird and unique concept. And it's crazy how the author managed to write something that's a mixture of so many genres. Romance, comedy, horror, and the whole book was written in such a poetic way. 2 of my favorite quotes are when R was frustrated with his illiteracy:
    "I want to change my punctuation. I long for exclamation marks, but I'm drowning in ellipses." And "In my mind I am eloquent; I can climb intricate scaffolds of words to reach the highest cathedral ceilings and paint my thoughts. But when I open my mouth, everything collapses."
    Also, it's crazy how fast the book can suck you right in. Most people don't care and won't read this, but for the very few who might be curious about the book, I'm gonna type the first few paragraphs down below, because I'm bored and have nothing better to do.
    -
    I am dead, but it's not so bad. I've learned to live with it. I'm sorry I can't properly introduce myself, but I don't have a name any more. Hardly any of us do. We lose them like car keys, forget them like anniversaries. Mine might have started with an 'R', but that's all I have now. It's funny because back when I was alive, I was always forgetting *other* people's names. My friend 'M' says the irony of being a zombie is that everything is funny, but you can't smile, because your lips have rotted off.
    None of us are particularly attractive, but death has been kinder to me than some. I'm still in the early stages of decay. Just the grey skin, the unpleasant smell, the dark circles under my eyes. I could almost pass for a Living man in need of a vacation. Before I became a zombie I must have been a businessman, a banker or broker or some young temp learning the ropes, because I'm wearing fairly nice clothes. Black slacks, grey shirt, red tie. M makes fun of me sometimes. He points at my tie and tries to laugh, a choked, gurgling rumble deep in his gut. His clothes are holey jeans and a plain white T-shirt. The shirt is looking pretty macabre by now. He should have picked a darker color.
    We like to joke and speculate about our clothes, since these final fashion choices are the only indication of who we were before we became no one. Some are less obvious than mine: shorts and a sweater, skirt and a blouse. So we make random guesses.
    You were a waitress. You were a student. Ring any bells?
    It never does.
    No one I know has any specific memories. Just a vague, vestigial knowledge of a world long gone. Faint impressions of past lives that linger like phantom limbs. We recognize civilization - buildings, cars, a general overview - but we have no personal role in it. No history. We are just *here*. We do what we do, time passes, and no one asks questions. But like I've said, it's not so bad. We may appear mindless, but we aren't. The rusty cogs of cogency still spin, just geared down and down till the outer motion is barely visible. We grunt and groan, we shrug and nod, and sometimes a few words slip out. It's not that different from before.
    But it does make me sad that we've forgotten our names. Out of everything, this seems to me the most tragic. I miss my own and I'm mourn for everyone else's, because I'd like to love them, but I don't know who they are.

    Loved it! One of my all-time favorite movies, tbh, but you guys got it. Cheesy, yet epic! Nicholas Hoult did an amazing acting job. I loved how they used music in this movie, too. That first song that R plays for Julie is "Patience", btw, by Guns N Roses.
    And it was definitely Romeo and Juliet - not just R and Julie, but some of the supporting cast were also named from the play (Nora the nurse, Perry/Paris, Marcus/Mercutio). The book is really good, too, but a lot darker, and Perry is more of a character in there (sort of; he's in R's subconscious). I can see why someone would call it Twilight with zombies, but it's a much better love story. It's a Zom Rom Com!
    Okay, I've been watching your vids for a while now - now I'm gonna subscribe :) You guys watch an amazing array of movies/shows.
    Also, if you want to watch some more classic literature, check out "Clueless" - it's a very good adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma. :)

    The director is in the movie. He is the guy teaching the zombie baseball at the end. I always wonder if they would have had to split up as they got closer to the city? They would not let R into the city with her. They would killed him. This is one of my favorite movies of all time

    Even I didn't think I would enjoy it but it was hilarious. Also both the main actors are underrated, please check out some of their movies. Like for Nicolas Hoult I'd really recommend Jack the giant slayer and for Teresa Palmer I would recommend I Am Number Four. Both movies are underrated.
    Also guys if you're into zombie or horror genre them I'd recommend Underworld franchise, The Adam's Family 1 and 2, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Dark Shadows, Sleepy Hollow.

    Nice to see there were some people mentioning the books in the comments. I still remember finding this movie in my dad's collection (having never seen him watch it) taking it home with me and watching it over and over for a while, then discovering the book and reading that. I know it's one of the few books I actually took the time to reread as well. Ive got a copy of new hunger but still need one of warm bodies. I just love how this entire concept started with the author writing that first inner monologue describing the zombie apocalypse from the perspective of a zombie.
    Its too bad things like the golden eyes and the dad's death Wouldn't translate well visually since I like how it kinda has this thing about how he may still be alive, but hes already dead inside and therefore instantly became a boney when he died. Theres the whole thing about what are the boneys, how children are more resistant to the curse as they're more pure and alive compared to other zombies, zombies are incapable of remembering their own name or even reading the name tags on the two children (which the boneys made him adopt) ultimately this is my favourite zombie movie.

    You were almost there with your metaphor, but what it's mostly a metaphor for is depression. Wandering around, feeling unconnected, going through the motions, not enjoying anything, until you make connection and become part of society again.

    Also, watching it again reminded me of another movie about zombies, comedy and romance, I recommend it, it's Korean and it's called "The Odd Family: Zombie on Sale (2019)", it has a weird name, but it's good.

    I love Warm Bodies. It was so something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated as they took the whole " Romeo and Juliet" such as "forbidden romance" concept and theme to another level as it was just constructed perfectly. It also gives a insightful and articulate representation of love, loss, romance, survival, humanity, mankind, and emotional resonance. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old. 😍😎💯👍

      For me, it was the balcony scene. They inserted the main characters' names so artfully, that it isn't until the balcony that it all clicks. But I can understand still missing it a few times.
      What impresses me is that if they had leaned into the Romeo & Juliette inspiration any more than they did, the film would have suffered, like, a LOT. It was just a kiss of the original inspiration and then moved on. If they had not used R and Julie, you wouldn't have even known. I like that it was subtle.

    • @sierraayanna4334
