Dropped my wallet twice in NYC because I'm a ditz. Never found them again. I found a wallet once with $200 and full of credit cards and ID, and I dropped the ID into a mailbox since the postal office will mail it back to the owner (usually), then dropped off the rest of the wallet to the local police precinct, since the credit cards had the person's name on it that matched the ID. I was given crap for doing that and I should of had kept my mouth shut, and the front desk made me fill out a report and put my information. I had believed that it's just a nice deed and ended up wasting over an hour. When I went to Japan, I left my phone at a local Izakaya in Shinjuku (did I mention that I'm a ditz?), and I circled back to several stores/local police station near the places that I had visited. When I finally reached the same izakaya, one of the chefs (co-owner) handed the phone back to me after I can prove that I can unlock it. This was fucken incredible and I would of had never expected this.

As a Taiwanese, non of my things have ever been stolen, we can leave our bag on the table while taking our food and it won’t get stolen. So I didn’t know the danger outside! In Switzerland, I was trying shoes and my bag was stolen. In Canada, I was charging my laptop beside my chair while waiting for my husband, and the laptop got stolen. It's the same in Norway - when we find things like mittens, gloves, binkies we hang them on the wall or fence near where we found them so when people come back looking for it they can find it. Wallets are turned in to the police or we call them if we see their name on a card. The only thing not safe here are bikes. For some reason people like to steal bikes and drop them off somewhere random, like they were electric scooters.

I’m in Japan, Just lost my backpack with all my valuables at Disney Downtown Mall Last night. Over 15 hours That it was lost went back When the mall opened, went to the lost and found……They HAD MY BAG. I WAS ECSTATIC! No way this would ever happen in America. I’ve lost so many things in California and never found them. BUT I FOUND WHAT I LOST IN JAPAN!!!! Thank you to the staff/workers for being so kind and even saying how they were glad that i was able to get it back! Love Japan 🇯🇵 ❤

I am Japanese. I went to Edinburgh, Scotland for a trip and got drunk at a pub called Conan Doyle and left my wallet on the counter. When I realized and went back to the pub, two men who were drinking next to me noticed my wallet and left it with the staff. In London, when I dropped my credit card, an old gentleman picked it up and ran to deliver it to me. Britain is a wonderful country.

He said locals would not give a damn about your valuables but whn you don’t lock your bike expect it to be gone within the hour.

Didn’t figured quickly that we left in the taxi, didn’t remember the taxi number since we stop him on the road and didn’t pay attention to him. We call him after 6hours and damn he answered and told us he leave outside Bangkok about our away from the city and he drove back to our house bring everything in intact and refused to take 1 dime from us. Damn he was man of really integrity and I wish him well along his family

Same in Hong Kong and mainland China. My friend left his wallet in a taxi in Beijing, spoke to the police. They managed to track the taxi and return hsi wallet within three hours. Compare this with the UK where my friend who left her bag was told by the taxi driver (and thr police agreed!) to pay £20 if she wants it back.

It's incredible how good a chance you have of items being returned. I left my camera bag on the train to the airport, I had literally got off the train and was onnthe escalator going to the terminal when I realised. I immediately contacted someone at the airport, they found my bag on the train and were able to get it to me although to a different terminal where I was escorted to the location, then escorted back to the departure terminal where they rushed me straight through security bypassing everyone waiting in line and even held the plane a few minutes so that I was able to board and back on the plane to Hong Kong, where literally days before the trip I had my wallet picked from my pocket, which fortunately was my decoy wallet which only had an octopus card with £10 and my old drivers licence which was returned with my updated address after the DVLA contacted me to tell me it had been found, handed into the consulate. Fortunately no bank cards taken or cash as that wasn't in this decoy.
