That's not how it works. Dak is seeking a 4-year deal. The way the contract is structured for Mahomes, it is loaded at the back end, and Mohomes likely won't play out the contract anyway. He will probably get a new deal for the 2025 season. In the next 5 years on his current contract, he will make about $144 million - which is $28.8 million a year on average. Dak is ALREADY making more than this on a franchise tag for 2020. This is actually good news for the Cowboys because Mohomes did not really reset the market; he came in under it as far as the length of contract Dak is seeking is concerned. In other words, the Mohomes deal in no way justifies Dak demanding $55 million a year.
@@willoughbykrenzteinburg Finally!!! Someone who actually understands how these deals get done. Although I would disagree with you about it not having an impact on Dak's deal, because the value of Mahomes' deal is 45 million p/yr. Of course, that's not what he'll actually make but that's what the total value averaged out over the length of it comes to and it's the figure that every other QB's agent is going to use in their own negotiations. Dak's deal is predicated on the length of time and not the total figure. For example, (prior to Mahomes' deal) If they had given him 100 million for 3 years he would've taken that. He would've been a bit under 34million p/yr (lower than the franchise tag). Then he'd be up for another contract under the new salary cap, which is what he really wants. To end this long ramble, it appears that this should help Dak's number go up (but doesn't help the length issue which is the actual problem) just not to 55 million a year. However, it does make Jerry Jones look pretty bad.

Understand how the salary cap works and how much it has been increasing for the last few decades and you would understand what Adam Scheffer is saying. With the new tv deals that supposed to get signed in about 2 years, the going rate for a QB might shoot up to 55mil a year on average. THAT IS WHY IT COULD BE A BARGAIN ON THE BAD END OF THIS DEAL! Mahomes basically agreed to give the Chiefs a paycut in last half of this contract! I know it’s hard to look at a trend and think about how things could look 5-6 years from now, but TRY! In 5-6, if the QB money trend continues (mind you, the new tv deal is going to significantly drive that trend upwards) 50-55mil for a QB might even be cheap and Mahomes would be sitting at 45-50mil per year.

I can not stand hearing professional athletes whining about how they need all this $$ in order to "take care of their family". Seriously???? If I was ever able to play a game and get paid, I could take care of my family being paid $1,000,000 a year. These guys can't???? It is just absurd. When their deals get redone if they have to be paid less they say "I have Bill's. I have a family to support". So you're telling me that if they go from $25 million to $20 million a year they are gonna SUFFER??????? GIVE ME A BREAK! All pro athletes are OVERPAID

The NBA has already lost 100s of millions of dollars this year and really can't forecast a profit for next year. No one knows if the NFL will even play games in2020. League revenue is almost certainly going down if stadiums can't be filled. Schefter's revenue optimism for the NFL is inexplicable to me.
Lake Ozark REI We’ll see. You got the best QB and are reigning champs. Enjoy. As for me, if they kneel again bashing this great country, I’m out. And I love my Niners. Can’t take it anymore.✌️🇺🇸
We still need to know the fully guaranteed money. The way it has been reported makes it sound as if the guarantees do not kick in, Mahomes can option out meaning essentially at some point it becomes a team option for the Cheifs. The question is when? Also, if Mahomes gets the guarantees is he no longer able to opt out? This is a very strange contract arrangement. The way I see it is Mahomes is locked into a contract he cant squirm out of when the market goes up and the Chiefs just opted to not build a professional roster around there QB, alot like the Rams and Seahawks have lately. Should be interesting but either way, one side will end up not wanting this deal to hold up 10 years from now. Either the Chiefs will feel like they didnt get their moneys worth or Mahomes will feel like hes not making enough 10 years from now.
The guarentee is in guarenteed mechanics meaning they broke it up throughout his entire contract it's set by dates in his contract so in order for him to get the full guarentee he has to be on the roster until 2023.
If he has a contract like that he better become as good as Brady or even better since they made this decision I have a feeling this time is going to become a dynasty
I can understand why football players especially the good ones get paid a lot of money to play a game.. dealing with life and personal issues like we all have we want to take a break from reality so we watch sports or a certain hobby you have but getting five hundred million dollars just for playing football.. it's just too much and the most interesting part is that it's going to continue to go more higher... every time a quarterback is the highest paid contract it will mean the next great quarterback that follows will want the same contract but maybe more and it always happens that way and we are going to see in our lifetime a quarterback or a football player they hit the mark of 1 billion dollars and it's going to be a while but we will see it eventually
if you look at his cap hit over the next 3 years its extremely team friendly, its incredibly smart. people are just looking at the total not understanding what any of it actually means.
10 years from now, folks will be asking if Mahomes will ever win another Superbowl. When the QB gets paid like this, teams rarely have playoff success.
@Chappo Supreme. Yep. All we've heard is, "Wait til he tries to throw like that in the NFL...wait til they get tape on him...wait til his sophomore slump...wait til he has the Madden Curse...wait til he has to come back from that injury...wait til he has to go against the Niner's pass rush...now it's, wait til they have to pay other players." Lot of people waiting...except Mahomes. 🤣
This seems like team security but its not. Patrick Mahomes agent set this up where its going to have to be restructed 5 years in. Which probably means more money than it says. Its a good contract for Mahomes. Maybe a future problem for the Chiefs.
It's not a future problem it's going to be renegotiated around 7 years of his contract by then cap will be even higher and that type of money might not be crazy. KC set it up to where in the future they can deal with it but know that cap will be 3x as high in 2027
$500M is a bargain if you ask me with only 141 Mill of that being guaranteed in case of injury. Mahomes is that great, and fans have to stop with the "Well, there goes their chances for the next 12 years", good NFL GM's like Brett Veach always find ways to manipulate the salary cap. Cowboys are now about to overpay big time for Dak Prescott after not signing him last year. Off the field Patrick Mahomes is a great ambassador for the NFL. He realized his influence and power with Great Power Comes Great Responsibility and Mahomes is using his platform to create a positive change and provide a message that he finds worthy of support.
You're looking at it right now, which is wrong. He still has 2 years of his rookie contract money, and then the big deal starts, and a couple years into that and the chiefs will be getting a bargain bc the qb salary is gonna go up, and the average could be upwards of 60 million. It's a smart deal for the future and right now. They still have 2 years until big money shows up
haha in just a few years his yearly income will be below the average for the league so its a team friendly deal. KC haters decimated and in shambles again wow. that last superbowl was a warm up the next two are layups
😂 Well this did not age well 😂. Your Chiefs are done dude. Your team is currently $22 million OVER the cap with 16 player's about to hit free agency 😂 so therefore I give it 2 more year's tops before that whole team will look totally different with cheap bums off the street playing for the Chiefs organization because the team can not afford any real good free agent player's 😂. It's broken up perfectly he doesn't even make 50 mil until 2027 most of his money is in roster bonus not total cash. KC set it up perfectly in my opinion obviously later down the line they will re-negociate he has an opt out option for that reason. And 477 isn't a normal guarentee it's guarentee mechanics meaning it's set in dates and time so he can't make 477 guaranteed unless he works the full contract

45 mil per year for 10 years. Team friendly deal according to Adam...
Greeny is trippin. Chris Jones is most likely the 5th best player
Considering how much money they make, they’re not overpaid... how much do you think the owners make?
It's an NFL and KC marketing tool. I don't see him finishing that deal but I salute him tho.
Man, you have to give the chiefs credit for getting a deal done.. early. They made that boy happy, telling him "you're our guy.. as far as we're concerned, you're going to retire here." Lol. That's amazing. Other teams should take not *cough cough Dallas*
Hats off to mahomes too for committing to the franchise that made him a pro. Chiefs fans are lucky lol.
The NBA has already lost 100s of millions of dollars this year and really can't forecast a profit for next year. No one knows if the NFL will even play games in2020. League revenue is almost certainly going down if stadiums can't be filled. Schefter's revenue optimism for the NFL is inexplicable to me.
Yup back to back great contract
I’m the next 5 years ..50 mill a year will be a bargain for the chiefs ..I feel like the chiefs won
Don’t worry guys, the media says KC can still sign everyone. Team friendly contract. Ask Seattle if Wilson’s contract hurt them?😂
Already got everybody signed... and just watch the big name FA's the next few years BEGGING the Chiefs to sign em so they get a shot at a ring😂😎
Lake Ozark REI We’ll see. You got the best QB and are reigning champs. Enjoy. As for me, if they kneel again bashing this great country, I’m out. And I love my Niners. Can’t take it anymore.✌️🇺🇸
Team friendly, he starting QB for the federal reserve week 1
He makes 7m week 1 lol
🗣WE PAID
You can’t not root for the guy.
Patrick is worth it.... Way to much pressure on the dude now.....
No pressure at all now... his future is set lmao
In four years it will be a good value
Not a chance.
If he has a contract like that he better become as good as Brady or even better since they made this decision I have a feeling this time is going to become a dynasty
Exactly dudes will take pay cuts to ring chase and play with the best QB in the league
Best part of the deal...
IT SCREWS THE COWBOYS!
hahaha
Nah.
Just the Cowboys?. Stupid comment
So the next qb will be paid around mahomes? Doesn’t seem team friendly but ok
if you look at his cap hit over the next 3 years its extremely team friendly, its incredibly smart. people are just looking at the total not understanding what any of it actually means.
This man kids kids will be str8
Officially repeated as champs!!!
10 years from now, folks will be asking if Mahomes will ever win another Superbowl. When the QB gets paid like this, teams rarely have playoff success.
Most teams don’t have Mahomes at QB tho
@@peterjo5215 Heard folks same the same thing about Aaron Rodgers when he was young and won that Superbowl early.
Bran Boyd Rodgers ain’t Mahomes, and the Chiefs ain’t Green Bay they’ll do anything for Pat to succeed.
@@chaposupreme2090 KC is stacked on offense. Rodgers has never had that level of offensive talent around him.
Cowboys in the brain this guy
Dam he's getting paid more than Conan O'Brien
Yeah!
That’s good after the 10 yrs finished up he can retire he has so much money
What media rights are u talking about
Lol thats not team friendly. You never know what could happen to him after a few years.
The Chiefs went to settings and turned off cap space
No it isn’t, they’re paying an average of $50.3 per year
You're looking at it right now, which is wrong. He still has 2 years of his rookie contract money, and then the big deal starts, and a couple years into that and the chiefs will be getting a bargain bc the qb salary is gonna go up, and the average could be upwards of 60 million. It's a smart deal for the future and right now. They still have 2 years until big money shows up
Mahomes broke the Chiefs’ salary cap
haha in just a few years his yearly income will be below the average for the league so its a team friendly deal. KC haters decimated and in shambles again wow. that last superbowl was a warm up the next two are layups
you just jinxed it they will not win for 20 years
Again? When was the first time? KC will probably get one more ring for 500 million
Only 3 for 500 million? Patriots got 9 appearances and 6 rings for 500 million
So my advice is that the Chiefs drafts better be A+ each and every year 😂.
@@derrickluv4002 Crazy chiefs have 30 mil in cap right now buddy 😂😂, can’t afford any good FAs maybe you should look who they just sign
Messi makes 120 million a year with Barca. Messi's contract makes mahomes contract look like change
Year 5 they will ask him to restructure this. He won't see half this money
Thats crazy, what a bunch of greedy SB , how can, fans afford or pay for their tickets and food at stadium
What does a pandemic got to do with NFL contracts?
